Decide not to go into MS

2) The 9am Works days appt can wait for me, since I won't go till the 15th

3) New employee price lists still are not out, so I can't get a jump on that

4) I feel like I want to get going to the San Juans

5) Even though I could make use of the trip to put away some things at work, it's hardly critical.

6) I can call Luther around 10 and ask how meeting went.

9:00 WSJ, clipping some articles.

Lotus Galaxy (new for Mac) vs Microsoft Excel (new for PC).

9:30 Pack + get ready. Misc.

Call Ferry + find that next one is not till 3:55 to orcas!!

Call Luther to see how intro went.

Lots of testers there. Got Worksdays tools.

Cliff was the only developer there.

11:00 Decide to go to Starbucks and read stuff on San Juans.

My REI book + Pac NW Magazines.

Get Arabian Mocha - Java.

Read ~ Rosario resort on Orcas Island.

11:45 Back at home, make reservation.

Make + eat lunch. Finish loading car

12:45 Leave, stopping to fill up + wash windows.

Good clear thoughts on Hi way probably due to coffee + clear day, till Anacortes then started to feel nervous about missing ferry, because I was "only" one hour early, but went to Wa. Park anyway. Did the loop road + notice they have a boat launch.

3:15 After getting ticket + getting in like and going to bathroom I sarted to relax. Notice very few cars going to Lopez but Orcas (my) lanes are full after awhile. DISCOVER THAT MYSTERY MT IS [underline] BAKER. And I noticed on map there's a log road rup to North end of Shannon Lake by Mt Shuksan. Road about Orcas and see how to get to Mt Constitution, hopeful by sunset. 4:30 Finally start boarding ferry. Lots of cars to load. Beautiful grip thr the islands. Took lots of pics. Glad I brought binoculars, and book full of maps. Not lonesome at all. [pink highlight] 5:30 (Probably) pulled into Orcas = drove way around it to other side. Very Oregon, with rolling hills + patches of forest. Stopped for supplies. Up partway to Mt Constitution, and saw breathtaking view and tried to figure it all cute. Saw Lopex [underline] ferry leave. 6:30 Head down + check in+ have drink on house while reading about Movan Park in book. 7:15 Got a dinner. Pretty good, but service slow due to big church group. Very good chowder + chicken. 8:45 Ask about "higher grade" room. Tro to switch to studio tomorrow. In future, get room in 2300 or 2400. [yellow highlight][underline]Take a walk to pool. Back to room. Write up the ferry ride, to here. 9:30 Read chap 13 + 14 of Mask of Apollo. To bed.

Wed Oct 7 '87 Sunny 70 Wake up. Think about my feeling in Chess, and what I feel when I try to play it. See evening note too. [red ink]. Music too. [pink highlight] 7:45 Get up. Misc. Go eat, reading about San Juan Island. Doesn't sound as great as Orcas, to me. Decide to visit it on the way to Sydney, BC, another trip.

I was starting to feel much better.

Bland grass with Blue Spruces growing out.

Haze hovering on the still bay.

Pretty little skull island.

Little white house on the point.

Winding road up the point

Burning wood smell.

Beautiful turning trees, adjacent to road.

Sounds of birds

Hills with brown sides + trees on top.

And I rode back to the car on the bike.

12:15 I noticed road sign for East Sound, so I took that little road, Crow Valley Road, and it was quite a treat. A valley of farms + horses. Went to La Familia's in East Sound again and had Dill Cod + Pesto Pasta, Salad with Tomato Parmigiana Suace (like yesterday), and ice tea.

1:00 Stopped at Tomplins for apples + Nestle Crunch, and drove back via Crow Valley Road, and took one last ride up the West Sound, for pictures.

1:30 Then I noticed it was time to head for the ferry, which I expected to be late. It wasn't but I was still one of the first. While waiting in line, I used restroom and bought an Orcas Island T-shirt. Wishing I had someone else to buy a gift for.

Back in the car, I started writing up this morning, but then we boarded + ferry left. So I spent time navigating, and had a good time seeing my favorite lookout point from the Ferry Dock at Lopez. Good trip. Except noticing other passengers: lots of bears, unruly hair, sideburns, woman embroidering kleenex, fat, etc.

4:00 Wanted to finish writing up today before heading home, so I stopped at the lookout point at Cap Sante in Anacortes. That was a very pleasant stop to unload all this.

4:30 Drove to Everett

5:30 Had Chinese dinner, brocolli + rice (fine), but the music kept changing pitch. Bizarre!

6:30 Head for Bellevue. Get gas + wash. Go to gym. Taking out contacts.

7:30 Half of workout - upper body (rock music sucks) since dinner not completely digested.

8:30 No new bugs for me.

No updated fails.

No urgent mail.

Leave message for Bob.

9:00 Call Mom + Dad. Tell ~ Orcas.

9:30 Go home. Put stuff away. Shower.

11:15 To bed.

Start entering review form. Do April.

5:00 In the shower, it's starting to bother me much more, the lack of physical beauty, once again. Maybe it's the lack of Amitriptyline, or the lack of strong focus on work.

5:30 At home, misc.

Make + eat potatoes + Brocolli.

Water plants. Do mail. Laundry.

Throw out Garbage. (Cleanup yard too.)

Assemble MS directors chair.

Go through Comdex Preview Newspaper.

Decide not to go:

so crowded + hectic: 90000 people.

No desire to see Las Vegas

Just went to one in Atlanta

Nothing I want to seek out.

Getting quite tired of software, in fact.

Go to QFC. Put stuff away.

Rearrange some "to do" notes onto new list.

Put laundry away.

Sew on 2 buttons, clearing shirts off my dresser that have been there all summer.

(Golden Girls not on tonite.)

Go through old clothes to give away.

Hungry so have a Version 2 (4 oz) Dove Bar. Coffee.

Pull tags + pins off new Klopfenstein's shirts.

Go through some serious mail.

10:00 Should I go to Tugs for "10 years ago go".

Dress for it. Yes, go, at least pay homage.

10:30 Finally get in. Quite fun. Just one Ball Jar of beer + 1 free champagne.

Chuck + Don Ireland have split up.

Bob was there + we had fun dancing.

Talk w Bill Morgan about Orcas I.

A few cuties but fun anyway, as Tugs is.

Drive Bob home.

1:00 To bed.

6:00 Go to QFC. Make + eat dinner. Read over "Liberty." Paginate it. Talk with Mom + Dad. Call Pat Coil.

9:15 Print "Liberty." Read it over. Still feels hard to believe, but I need to work on my beliefs. Call Nat'l, Avis, Budget, and finally Hertz has Mustang Convertibles.

9:45 Think. Do today's mail. Pay some Bills. Go mail 'em. Why will I go to LA?

It's not an expensive flight

Cannot go next 2 weekends: Halloween Bus

Haven't been for a long, long time.

Did a lot of Wash + Oregon this spring + summer.

Not up for Hurrican Ridge or Victoria via San Juans

Need to feel out Calif for future home

Was not able to go due to Works all summer and things I wanted to explore in the NW.

I've had enough hike in Wash this summer. Kennedy, Johannesburg, Orcas, even city parks

Review notes on drugs, etc.

12:00 Lunch at Athens Spaghetti thinking about why I'm going to LA. Go home. Put stuff away.

1:00 Pack. Unload laundry. Vac 'n hold at P.O. Out to airport. Time to put car at Ajax. read whole issue of Infoworld on plane. Get rental car. Jolly Roger to eat dinner. Up PCH to Santa Monica. Walk on the bulkhead. Fresh ocean air. Cold but people jogging. Out SM Blvd to West Hollywood, driving through Century City.
