To the Honorable Mayor and Common Councilof the City of Seattle: Your petitioners would respectfully represent, that they are the owners of the two lots on the north and south sides of Alder St. and adjoining the alley between Seventh and Sixth Sts.: that by the profile now at the office of the city engineer it is proposed to grade Alder St. level at the crossing of said alley and street. Your petitioners are the most interested of any of the property holders adjacent to said crossing, in as much as they are the owners of the most of the property immediatl affected by said grade. in our opinion the present grade of the alley north from Alder St. accomodates and will amply accomodate the property adjacent thereto, and there is no occasion for the grading of the alley level across said Alder St. Wherefore your petitioners would respectfully petition that said alley be not graded across Alder St., and that the grade of Alder St the terrace between Sixth and Seventh Sts. be made with view to the best use of Alder St.\ irrespective of the grading of said alley. Petition of J A Hatfield et al praying for two additional street lights on Gislers Wharf. Referred to Com on Gas Lights Petition of J M Frink et al to change the planking ordered laid on South Second St and Jackson St from 16 ft in width to 24 ft in width and place the same in the middle of the St. Rec'd & read & on motion laid on the table. Petition of R McGilvery for permission to establish a white Laundry on North side of Washington Street between 2nd & 3rd streets. 89 COMMON COUNCIL OF CITY OF SEATTLE Oct 1 1886 Be it remembered that on this 1st day of October 1886 the Common Council oof the City of Seattle meets in its Council Chamber pursuant to law. the following officers are present to wit: Mayor W H Shoudy and Councilmen C W Coulter, J M Frink, J Furth, Jos Green T D Hinckley, T W Lake, C F Reitze and Robt Russell the following proceedings were had to wit: The minutes of the last meeting were read and approved. Petitions etc Read Petition of James McNaught protesting against the summary removal of Water Tank from Jefferson St between 7th & 8th Sts and offering to make such changes in the tanks as will abate the nuisance at petitioners expense. Granted and the Street Commissioner ordered to make such changes in the premises as may be required to abate the nuisance. Petition of Paul Paulson et al praying for Street Crossings on Main St at intersection of 9th Street & 11th Street Granted. Petition of W K Hughes et al for Street Lights along Front Street from Pine Street to Vine Street Referred to Committee on Street Lights. 153 COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEATTLE Feb 18 1887 Referred to Finance Committee Petition of James Webb et al to open Fifth Street from vine Street to Depot Street and Cedar Street from Front Street to Depot Street and for a temporary sidewalk on the north side of Cedar Street. Granted so are as the petition refers to the opening of said Streets.
