To the Honorable Mayor and Commn Council of the City of Seatte: the undersigned respectfully represents to your honorable body that on the 21st day of May, 1889 he made application for a retail liquor license to the city Clerk, and deposited with the said application the sum of Six Hundred dollars,($600.00), and also that he filed with the said clerk a good and sufficent bond in accordance with the charter and ordinances of the City of Seattle; that at that time he was engaged in the retail liquor business at 107 Washington Street in said city, under license theretofore granted by your honorable body; that he continued in the said business at said place until the great fire on the 6th day of June, 1889, at which time his place of business and all the fixtures and stock therin, except one load of liquor, which he suceeded in saving, was destroyed by fire, and he was thereby subject to the loss of at least twenty-five hundred dollars($2500.00), upon which there was no insurance; that he was also engaged in keeping a lodging house at the same place, and the property owned and used by him in said business was at the same time totally destroyed by fire, and he thereby lost about four thousand ($4000.00), on which there is no insurance; that he cannot resume business at the place where he formerly conducted it, and that the license for which he applied as aforesaid will be useless to him; that in consequence of his aforsaid lossed he had been greatlycrippled financially; THEREFORE, her respectfully petition your honorable body that the said sum of six hundred dollars($600.00) may be returned to him, less the pro ratt deduction for and during the period of fifteen(15) days which elapsed between the said 21st day of May, and the 6th day of June.
