89 COMMON COUNCIL OF CITY OF SEATTLE Oct 1 1886 Be it remembered that on this 1st day of October 1886 the Common Council oof the City of Seattle meets in its Council Chamber pursuant to law. the following officers are present to wit: Mayor W H Shoudy and Councilmen C W Coulter, J M Frink, J Furth, Jos Green T D Hinckley, T W Lake, C F Reitze and Robt Russell the following proceedings were had to wit: The minutes of the last meeting were read and approved. Petitions etc Read Petition of James McNaught protesting against the summary removal of Water Tank from Jefferson St between 7th & 8th Sts and offering to make such changes in the tanks as will abate the nuisance at petitioners expense. Granted and the Street Commissioner ordered to make such changes in the premises as may be required to abate the nuisance. Petition of Paul Paulson et al praying for Street Crossings on Main St at intersection of 9th Street & 11th Street Granted. Petition of W K Hughes et al for Street Lights along Front Street from Pine Street to Vine Street Referred to Committee on Street Lights. Petition of John Cunningham et al for Street Lights corner of 7th & University St & Seventh St & Seneca St Referred to committee on Street Lights. Petition of Thos T Minor et al for Street Lights on Columbia Street from Fourth to Twelfth St Referred to committee on Street Lights. Petition of J B Metcalf et al for Street Lights corner of Main St & South 4th, South 6th, South 7th, South 8th and South 9th Streets. Granted.

317 COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEATTLE Oct 21 1887 On motion the Chief of the Fire Department is instructed to place the building on the lots recently purchased by the City on Third St, in proper conditionfor use by Hose Company No 1, and the chairman of the Committee on public buildings and grounds to supervise said repairs. On motion of councilman Reitze it is ordered that the City Hall be enlarged to the full extent of the lot so as to make room for the accomodation of the new Hook & Ladder truck and additional room for the City Clerk, the enlargement of the council chamber and if possible the enlargement of the Jail accommodations and that W E Boone architect be employed to prepair plans and specification for the same. On motion of Councilman Reitze itisordered that the City Surveyor prepare a plat of the Avenue mentioned in the Mayor's message amended so that the Avenue be 90 ft wide from the corner of 6th and Pike Sts to Lake Union and 150 ft wide the remainder of the distance. And that the plat be extended to an intersection with the White River Road. On motion of Councilman Frink ordered that the Purchasing agt directed to purchase a Field & Warring Automatic flushing tank syphon and the same be placed on Main St by Street Commissioner. Ordered that a bridge 16 feet wide be built on Jefferson St between 4th and 5th Streets. Licenses Ordered & Issued Henry Thompson and Oliver Bernard ordered issued by full vote.
