Hoole for a resurvey of work done on Washington Street Improvement. Referred to Streets. From J.P. Jones for the removal of obstruction from the alley in Block 37 of Denny's plat. Referred to Streets. From Frank Lessman et al for the right to use the license of Lessman & McLeod. Referred to Licenses and Revenue. From Fred Dickman et al for the removal of Wash House and Stable on Mill and Fourth Streets. Referred to Health and Police. From Chas S. Roe for illuminating the City with Electric Lights. Referred to Committee on Gas Lights.

Warrants. Adopted

Ordered that the Street Comtee be & they are hereby granted further time on the claims of F. H Whitworth.

Ordered that the Streets Comtee be & they are hereby granted further time on the petitions of Bell et al for grading Vine & Bell Streets & on petition of Gatzert et al to change the grade on 4th Street.

From Licenses recommending the granting of the petition of Frank Lessman for the right to use license of Lessman & McLeod upon furnishing a proper bond. Adopted

Claims Paid The following claims having been duly audited by the Council are ordered paid by Warrants drawn on the funds & in the amounts following, towit:

Washington Street Improvement Ord 369 S. F. Hoole Contract Work on grade no $638.68

Gas Fund Young & McKeon repairs to mains no $1.90 Washington Iron Works lamp posts 33. John Spencer repairs to mains 27.50

The claim of Myra A. Carr for refunding taxes paid is referred to the Finance Comtee

Ordered that the Bond of the City Treasurer be and the same is hereby fixed at the sum of $40,000.00

Ordered that the Comtee on the Columbia Street Engine House be & they are hereby instructed to change the plans of said building so as to lengthen the same 10 feet provided however the Contractors and bondsmen assent in writing thereto

Ordered that the Vote by which the order of date August 4.1883 & entered on page 320 granting S. F. Hoole as extension of time on his Contract for the Improvement of Washington Street under Ordinance No. 369 be & the same is hereby reconsidered.

Ordered that S. F. Hoole be & he is hereby granted an extension of time on his Contract for the Improvement of Washington Street under Ordinance No. 369 upon his executing a new bond with good & sufficient sureties in the sum of $5000.00

344 JOURNAL OF THE PROCEEDINGS OF THE Aug 24/83 consideration of the same is adopted upon the following vote, to wit: In favor of adoption, Clancy, Day, Harris, McDonald, Ranke & Wusthoff. Against adoption none. The attorney submits on Ordinance entitles "To provide for the grading and improvement of a portion of Jackson Street" thereupon after due consideration the same is adopted upon the following vote, to wit: In favor of adoption, Clancy, Day, Harris, McDonald, Ranke & Wusthoff. Againstadoption none. Council man Day submits an Ordinance entitled "An Ordinace to amend Ordinance No296 entitled In relation to Auctioneers, Hawkers and Peddlers approved September 5th 1882", thereupon the same is laid over for special consideration the first Friday in September 1883. Aoolications fo Licenses. Ordered that licenses be issued as follows to wit: G Burien for a grocery license for 3 months from Aug 22,1883 G Burien for a pigeon hole table for 3 months from Aug 22,1883 G Burien for 1 pool table for 3 months from Aug 22,1883 Frank Lessman for a grocery license for 3 months from Sept 2,1883 L V Schnyder for Retail Liquor for 3 months from Aug 26,1883 Miscellaneous Ordered that the Attorney be & he is hereby insturcted to prepare a Contract to be entered intoby the Seattle Gas Light Co for the furnishing of Gas for the ensuing year at $5.00 per lamp per month The motion to instruct the atty to dismiss the case pending before the City Justice & against Williamson & Kellogg is lost. The Street Comtee make their report recommending the granting of the petition of Williamson & Kellogg for the right to occupy a portion of Spring Street. Adopted. Ordered that the Attorney be & he is hereby insturcted to submit an Ordinance to provide for the Imporvement of Front Street Cribbing according to Plans & Specifications heretofore submitted by the surveyor & now on file. and now the citizen Comtee on the Villard reception appears to ask the council to support a Comtee of their Body to be a part of the Executive [?][?] reception.

Referred to Finance Committee Committees Reports Rec'd From Health & Police Comtee reporting that nuisence complaint of by Henry Westphal et al had been abated. From Street Committee Rejecting the petition of L B Andrews with reference to Madison Street assessment Roll. Report adopted From Street committee rejecting the petition of Martin Strong for 15 percent of reserve funds on Madison Street, Report adopted From Street Committee rejecting the petition of O Jensen for the right to obstruct Weller Street with a house. Report adopted & petition denied. Ordered that the Attorney be & he is hereby instructed to proceed forthwith to cause the removal of said obstructions. From Street Commitee recommending the granting of the petition of Charles S Roe for the erection of ploes & stretching wires for electric light & recommending that the Attorney be insturcted to submit a general Ordinance regulating the subject. Ordered that the Street Commissioner be and he is hereby instructed to lower sidewalk on south side of Washington Street fronting Geo W. Young's property. Ordered that the matter of considering the rights of 2 additional Councilmen appointed by Act of Legislature to seats as Councilmen be and the same is laid over for special business tomorrow evening. Ordered that the Council stand now adjourned until Friday January 10, 1883 at 7 1/2 o'clock p.m.
