329 COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEATTLE Aug 9/83 Third & 4th Streets The Motion for the recommendation of the vote by which the Contract for the Improvement of Pine St under the Ord 421 was awarded the Harkins & Strong & entered on Page 323 is lost by the following vote to wit: in Favor of reconsideration Day & Harris. Against the same Ranke, Wusthoff & Rasin. Ordered that the vote by which the order for retaining $500.00 from any Warrants issued or to be issued to Cummings by reason of thereof failure to enter into contracts for the Improvements of Cherry & South 3rd Streets be & the same is hereby reconsidered. In favor of such reconsideration, Day, Wusthoff & Rasin. Against the same Harris & Ranke. The motion to retain $500.00 out of any Warrants to be issued Keenen & Cummings or either of them is lost upon the following vote to wit: If favor motion Harris & Ranke against same Day, Wusthoff, Rasin Ordered that the vote by which the order for retaining $500.00 from any Warrants issued or to be issued to Keenen & Cummings by reason of their failure to enter into contracts for the Improvement of Cherry & South 3rd Streets be & th same is hereby reconsidered. Small receiving a majority of all the votes of the Councilmen present, is duly declared elected to said Office for the term provided by law. A proposal is rec'd from Hatfield & Winslow to furnish a Hose Carriage. Referred to Comtee on Fire & Water supply Ordered that John Collins be & is authorized to construct a Sidewalk around the Occidental Hotel in accordance with the established grade Ordered that the matter of setting up the 2nd, 3rd & Intersecting Streets Grade delinquency be & is hereby referred to Finance Comtee Consideration of Ordinances And now the Council proceeds to consider an ordinance entitled "In relation to the duties of the Treasurer of the City of Seattle;" thereupon after due consideration the same is adopted upon the following vote towit: In favor of adoption Clancy, Day, Keenen, McDonald, Northrup, Ranke, Rasin & Wusthoff. Against adoption none. and now the Council proceeds to consider an Ordinance entitled "a "special Ordinance appointing money to pay audited bills." Ordered that the clerk be & is hereby instructed to deliver the Tax Roll for the year 1883, containing all the delinquent taxes for the years of 1883 & 1882, to the City Treasurer and annex thereto a Warrant in accordance with for the collection of all taxes due thereon Ordered that the Council stand now adjourned for special business until Wednesday Jan. 23, 1884 at 7&1/2 o'clock P. From the Attorney on the matter of the suit of G. W. Young-vHenry Sheahan Street Commissioner. Referred to Judiciary Comtee. Committees Reports Rec'd From Health & Police Comtee on Jail Ordered that the Health & Police Comtee be & are hereby instructed to procure blankets & straw ticks for use of Jail From Street Comtee rejecting petition of Chas Mascoline et al with reference to Fish Stall. Report adopted From Gas Light Comtee recommending the erection gaslights at the corners of following streets towit: Union & 2d; Union & 4th; Seneca & 4th; on Pike at 2d, 4th, 6th & 8th; Jackson & 5th Adopted Ordered that a special Comtee be appointed to examine & report the advisability of protecting the Inclines foots of Washington, Columbia & Madison Streets. Thereupon the Mayor appoints Wusthoff, Keenen & Ranke such Committee. Ordered that Licenses be issued as follows, towit; Bersch & Hink for Retail Liquors for 3 months from Feb 1, 1884 Dahlquist & Johnson for Retail Liquors for 3 months from Jan 13, 1884 Andrew Lunn & Co for Retail Liquors for 3 months from Jan 26, 1884 Celestin StUpery for Retail Liquors for 3 months from Jan 19, 1884 Wm Grose for Retail Liquors for 3 months from Feb. 1, 1884 Ordered that the Mayor be & is hereby requested to appoint a Comtee on Sewers to examine the matter of the proposed sewer on Mill Street & to consult with property owners regarding the same & to examine & report upon the matter of a Sewerage system for the City. Thereupon His Honor the Mayor appoints Keenen, Ranke & Northrup as such Committee. Ordered that a gas tank be erected at the corner of 2d and [?] Street.

429 COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEATTLE Feb 1/84 Miscellaneous Ordered that the Fire Warden be & is hereby instructed to enforce all the provisions of Ordinance No. 186 & all amendatory ordinances thereto as well as all other ordinances for the prevention of Fires. Ordered that the attorney be & he is hereby instructed to submit an ordinance to provide for a Janitor for City Hall. Ordered that the matter of Fire Cisterns be referred to a Special Comtee. thereupon the Mayor appoints Councilmen Northrup, Keenen & McDonald as such Comtee. And now the Special Comtee in Fire Cisterns make their report recommending that a Fire Cistern be constructed corner Battery and 3rd Streets. Adopted. Ordered that the Treasurer be & is hereby instructed to take sufficient funds out of general city Fund to pay the grade taxes on South 3rd Street & charged against City Hall Property owned by City of Seattle Ordinances And now the Council proceeds to consider 4 ordinances each being entitled "A special ordinance appropriating money to pay audited bills" Adopted upon the following vote towit: In favor of adoption Day, Harris, Keenen, McDonald, Northrup, Ranke & Wusthoff. against adoption none Ordered that the Council stand now adjourned until Friday February 8, 1884 at 7&1/2 o'clock P.
