Consideration of Ordinances Ordered that the 3 applications for Street Railway franchises by the Seattle Street Railway Co J. R. Lewis et al and J. B. Metcalf et al be laid over for special business for meeting on Tuesday September 11.1883.

Ordered that the Attorney be & is hereby instructed to submit an Ordinance grading & licensing Peddlers, Hawkers etc.

The Attorney submits an Ordinance entitled "An Ordinance to amend Ordinance No 383 entitled An Ordinance to establish certain grades in the City of Seattle," thereupon after due consideration the same is adopted upon the following Vote, towit: In favor of adoption Clancy, Day, Harris, McDonald, Rasin, Ranke & Wusthoff. Against adoption none.

The Attorney submits an Ordinance entitled "To prevent the [------] of teams unfastened," thereupon after due consideration the same is adopted upon the following Vote, towit: In favor of adoption Clancy, Day, Harris, McDonald, Rasin, Ranke & Wusthoff. Against adoption none.

8 appropriation Ordinances are submitted each being entitled "A Special Ordi-nance appropriating money to pay audited bills," thereupon after due consideration the same are adopted upon the following Vote, towit: In favor of adoption Clancy, Day, Harris, McDonald, Rasin, Ranke & Wusthoff. Against adoption none.

Miscellaneous Ordered that the Clerk be & is hereby instructed to advertise for bids for boarding city prisoners.

And now in pusuance to notice duly given the Council proceeds to examine & equalize the Assessment Roll for the Improvement of Madison Street under Ordinance No 406; thereupon P. H. Lewis files written objections to such assessment. Pending the consideration of which objections [---------] said roll are referred to the Street Committee, Assessor & Attorney for examination

89 COMMON COUNCIL OF CITY OF SEATTLE Oct 1 1886 Be it remembered that on this 1st day of October 1886 the Common Council oof the City of Seattle meets in its Council Chamber pursuant to law. the following officers are present to wit: Mayor W H Shoudy and Councilmen C W Coulter, J M Frink, J Furth, Jos Green T D Hinckley, T W Lake, C F Reitze and Robt Russell the following proceedings were had to wit: The minutes of the last meeting were read and approved. Petitions etc Read Petition of James McNaught protesting against the summary removal of Water Tank from Jefferson St between 7th & 8th Sts and offering to make such changes in the tanks as will abate the nuisance at petitioners expense. Granted and the Street Commissioner ordered to make such changes in the premises as may be required to abate the nuisance. Petition of Paul Paulson et al praying for Street Crossings on Main St at intersection of 9th Street & 11th Street Granted. Petition of W K Hughes et al for Street Lights along Front Street from Pine Street to Vine Street Referred to Committee on Street Lights. Petition of John Cunningham et al for Street Lights corner of 7th & University St & Seventh St & Seneca St Referred to committee on Street Lights. Petition of Thos T Minor et al for Street Lights on Columbia Street from Fourth to Twelfth St Referred to committee on Street Lights. Petition of J B Metcalf et al for Street Lights corner of Main St & South 4th, South 6th, South 7th, South 8th and South 9th Streets. Granted.

245 COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEATTLE Aug 5 1887 Seventh Street & West Street Ass't Rolls Pursuant to law and published notices the Council now proceeds to examine and equalize the special assessment Rolls for the Assessment Districts established by Odinance No 843 for the grading of West Street from Cedar Street to Virginia Street and to build sidewalks thereon. and by Ordinance No 848 for the grading of Seventh Street from Madison Street to Mill Street & Building sidewalks thereon, and no one appearing to contest either of said assessment rolls and no objection being made to them or either of them. On motion it is ordered that said assessment Rolls be and the same are hereby approved. Councilman Reitze moves to instruct the Clerk to advertise for bids for lighting street for the ensuing year. Referred to Committee on Street lights. His Honor the Mayor having stated to the Council he will be absent from the City for some weeks, on motion fo CouncilmannJ M Frink, Councilman Furth is elected Acting Mayor during the absence of the Mayor by unanimous vote of the Council. On motion the Council now proceeds to open and examine bids for the Improvement of Seventh St from Madison St to Mill Street; of Mill Street from a point between South 4th & South 5th Streets to Williamson Street and of Madison Street Extension as follows viz: Seventh Street Bid of Finch & Henderson Sidewalks per M[thousand] B M[thousand] $15.85 Box Drains per M[thousand] B M[thousand] $15.85 Bid of P Quigley Earthwork pr Cubic Yard 45 cents
