353 COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEATTLE Sept 7/83

Be it remembered that on this the 7th day of September 1883 the Common Council of the City of Seattle meets in its Council Chamber pursuant to law.

The following Officers are present, towit: His Honor the Acting Mayor Councilman U. M. Rasin and Councilmen Thomas Clancy, B. F. Day, Geo. W. Harris, Charles McDonald, Otto Ranke and F. W. Wusthoff

Petitions Rec'd From A. S. Miller et al for changing proposed elevation of Sidewalks on 4th Street near Marion. Referred to Street Committee

From ]]Murphy and Stewart]] asking for the postponement of the detention of the forfeiture for & on a/c of 9th Street Improvement bid of $250.00 until the final payment. Referred to the Street Committee

From G. N. Alexander for an extension of time for the completion of the piling on South 3rd Street until October 10, 1883. Referred to Street Committee

From M. H. Wilcox et al for a crossing in Front Street. Referred to Street Committee

Committees Reports Rec'd From the Street Committee recommending the granting of the petition of Deitrich Rohl et al for the opening of Clay Street from Water Street to City limits. Adopted & Street Commissioner is hereby instructed to okay the law.

Aug 6/84 of Compiled Ordinances be accepted & Contract so awarded Ordered that the Council stand now adjourned Attest: E S Osborne, Clerk Approved: John Leary, Mayor Aug 21/84 Be it remembered that on this the 21st day of August, 1884 the Common Council of the City of Seattle meets in it's Council Chamber pursuant to the call of His Honor the Mayor John Leary. The following Officers are present To wit: His Honor the Mayor John Leary and Councilmen Chas F. Clancy, B.F. Day, Geo. F. Frye, W.A. Harrington, Franklin Matthias, B.L. Northrup, Alfred Snyder, E.F. Sox and H.L. Yesler. thereupon the following proceedings are had; Petitions Rec'd From L.F. Dearborn et al for grading Jackson Street from Commercial to 2d Street. Referred to Street Comtee From Wm Harkins for an allowance of $1088.00 on a/c of 4th Street Grade. Referred to Street Comtee From Fred Gasch et al for a Sewer in Union Street betweeen 8th and Elliott Bay. Referred to the Comtee on Sewers From H. Muller et al for removal of Chinese habitations from Clay Street between Water & West Streets. Referred to a Special Comtee To wit: Sox & Day. From David Ross et al for reducing license on book peddlers. Referred to Judiciary Comtee From Louis Steen for the right to build an addition to Butcher shop on Front Street. Referred to the Comtee on Fire & Water supply. From Jane Barry for the right to erect a Wooden Building on Front Street to take the place of "Aa" Saloon site. 537 COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEATTLE Sept 12/84 sidewalk on Front - Temperance Streets. Laid on the table From J. F. McNaught for damages caused by the defective condition of 6th Street in the sum of $80.00 Referred to Judiciary Comtee Reports Rec'd From Chief of Police fixing Police districts and assigning Offices thereto. Referred to Police Comtee Communications From Chief of Police preferring charges against Officer T. I. Small, Referred to a Special Comtee Yesler, Clancy & Latime Committees Reports From Gas Light Comtee recommending the awarding of the following Contracts, to wit: Washington Iron Works for Lamp posts, J. Schram & co for repairs etc Referred to Judiciary Comtee From Street Comtee on the matter of Improving foot of Marion Street making the recommendations that a box drain be ordered placed therein connecting with Opera House Sewer & that Seattle Lumber & Comcial co be allowed to fill said street with sawdust. Adopted From Special Comtee recommending that the Chief of Police be instructed to remove all Chinese habitations from Clay Street. Adopted From Finance Comtee recommending that the petition of the Herald Pub Co. for reconsidering the matter of awarding the contract for City printing to the Post Intelligencer, be laid on the table. Report accepted And now the Surveyor submits the Specifications for the proposed planking of Commercial, Mill & Front Streets under ordinance No. 595, after due examination & modifications, the same are approved. Ordered that the petition of Fred Gasch et al for a Sewer in Union Street be taken from the table & referred to the Surveyor Ordered that the Council stand now adjourned Attest: E.S.
