June 28, 1945 - July 3, 1845
1845 June 28th. Mr. Johnson is this day finishing off the Comb of Brick House which Moon & Irby half done. Mr Johnson says he thought they knew how to comb off a House better than they did mine - he took off 4 Courses of shingles & is putting on 4 to stop the leak which is owing to bad shingling. The valley boards between old House & passage which Moon & Irby put up & the weather boarding on passage is taken off & done over by Mr Johnson, who says they were no valley boards at all merely a little thin piece of plank put under the shingles with a little groove on it which is not worth a cent — Chopping over corn this day on mountain Sewed turnips in garden about 26th or 27th Inst.
30. Halling up wheat, finishing laying by corn with plows this day -
July 3 Worked out Tobacco on Branch near house, began to Top tobacco Mr Murphys Nat Spencer & 2 white began to Plaster House or getting lathes this morning, began to cut oats 2nd July
3rd cutting oats tho cloudy & like for rain

1853 augt 11th Sent Fed to Mill 10 Bus. corn for meal Henry Halling Logs to mill Yates, Hilling up 3rd yrs Tobacco working Irish Potatoes Cotton & Garden, - fine weather ——
15th Halling up Timber this morning Mr Lipscomb Jointing shingles Mr Irby not here clear fine weather, Election for Judge
19 yesterday & to day thrashing wheat Doct Thompsons machine, working Lot Tobacco Toping Tobacco etc etc finished & Carried away saturday machine
21 my wife gone to Mrs Hunts to go to Charlotte in morning & Jacob & Sallie, I went to day to Riceville to see Doct Thompson & carrd Jerry Smith about his Jaw
25 Halling up Logs for Barn Hewing yesterday & day before & cleaning Out place for House Mr Irby Just finished shingling about 12 Oclock working Out Our Second Yrs Land of Tobacco. went yesterday upon On River for Mrs clements Doct Thompson Came by here called from Mr Lewis to Jerry Smith cloudy & like for Rain
27 Toped wormed & succored Tobacco togot over day all Halled up some House logs I paid $3 for our church to association which is not paid to me — gave to Brother Hagood in association for Preaching to Bufaloe $2, & $1 missionary society – - -
31st Halling Logs to saw mill to day - Succoring Tobacco over, cutting stacks etc
sept 1st Cutting stacks & getting Plates & Joist for barn Shrubing in fresh ground, I am going to Mrs McCullocks to Settle with Adkinson & Divide Oats etc

5. Sent to Mill 10 Bus Corn for meal worming & succoring Tobacco & Topingthis day

8th Rained Caught all my fodder on ground
9th still raining. yesterday we squared Barn Logs wormed & succored Tobacco all over but second yrs ground Peggy Sally Ben & all the chaps nearly got bad Colds Sally has been sick Raining & Mr Irby gone Mr Lipscomb at work on Buggy shaft but cant do much on a/c weather
1[ink spot] went to meeting Mr Plunket Elected Preacher Mr Lipscomb worked a little this morning pulling on Buggy shaft. —
12 Toping worming & succoring gathering Blade fodder squaring barn Logs etc -
15. yesterday worming & succoring Tobacco & stacking fodder very sorry & not one stack of good saved yet - this morning worming & succoring & Toping new ground Tob. Killed Lamb squaring Logs. good deal of fodder on ground. we have stacked 5 stacks Blades worming succoring & toping new ground Mr Lipscomb left at 12 Oclock
16. Stacked one stack fodder next to orchard Finished worming & succoring new ground to day Pulled some fodder & Cut some Tops finished Halling Barn Logs —

1859 Decr 17th Mr Fox here yet - left about 10 or 11 Saturday self – & Horse worked on well in evening & Layed Hath in negroes House Piled shingles etc stoped Raining in evening
18th Stayed at home to day - -
19 went to Court. Chumney at work on well House & Jerry Smith Henry Halling wood claiborne & little Henry cutting & malling Rails & wood
20th Raining a little this morning working on Stable to day putting up rafters Sawing out doors facing of etc = I went down to Mrs Hunts with her Sent my horse to shop this evening by Charles,
21st worked on Stable, claiborne Jointing shingles little Henry & Smith Dawbing House in evening I went to Sale of Mrs Hunts Land, no Sale, at all, Mr Tompkins here on my return Fox came at night Mr T stayed all night
22. Mr T. left. Fox Finished well, Henry & claiborne with him till Dinner cleaning out & finished well HenryLittle Henry& chumbly at work on Stable claiborne & Henry & Smith went to new ground malling & cutting, Jerry went down to Plantation aspen Grove Kelley carried my hog home & got 3¼ VinegarGallons
23 working on Stable. Sent Henry to Mill Turn wheat for us 2½ & 2 Bus for chumny. brot back plank & bag Corn meal brot back — I have had sick head ache all day
24 Sent Henry to mill got Plank his own flour & Bens. worked on stable & negroe House & Rounding & Jointing Shingles I went down to warranting at Mr Millers about Irbys & Wm Yates Debts done nothing –
