Room 19 Boston Block Seattle Wash Aug. 26, '89

To the Hon. Mayor and City Council of Seattle

Sirs;

The undersigned being owners of lots in the Oak Street grade district, between Depot St & Harrison St. North Seattle, would respectfully represent that the valuation and assessment of lots for said grade is essentially unfair in general particulars, proposing an unjust burden of tax upon us your petitioners.

First, it should be noticed that lots on and near Depot St. on Oak are by far the most valuable in the district, being worth more than twice as much in the current market as others on Oak St. three blocks further north, yet they are assessed only about 12% higher for grade purposes - and if these lots are fairly valued as at present assessed at $475. then lots in blocks 41 and 46 should not be rated at over $200. or $225. - Or again if the present valuations of $425. and $450.

in blocks 41 and 46 - between Thomas and Harrison St. be taken as just and fair, then the valuations of lots in the blocks terminating on Depot St. on the South, should be raised to double their present figures on the said assessment rate - say to be moderate $700. for inside lots and $800. for corners.

Again, your petitioners would respectfully ask that lot 7 block 46 be assessed as low as lot 12 block 46 - both being corners, but the latter is assessed at $425. while the former is down at $450.

Would also ask that lot 4 block 41 - now assessed at $450. be more equitably assessed in relation to lot 1 of same block, cor. of Harrison St. which is assessed at $25. lower.

We would also respectfully represent that in our opinion the assessor has not sufficiently discriminated the greater value of Corner lots in the middle portions of this Oak St. grade district, in many blocks corners and inside lots being all assessed at a like figure.

And we will ever pray to

Arthur DeVoe Marmora DeVoe
