our mutual friend Mr. Lincoln whom I saw the day he left Springfield for Washington - whose remains I received at the State Capital of the Old Court House in Springfield and followed to the grave.

I also had the pleasure of meeting in company with Senator Edmond of Vermont, and others, at the house of Senator Miller of California when present to solemnize the marriage of my son Lieut Clover to his daugter [sic] Dora. My son is now absent on leave in California, and I trust may be al[lowed] to be present at the funeral of Senat[or] Stanford with his wife, both of whom I know esteemed him with deep af -fection, and to whom they were un -der obligations.

everyone's month. So many empty houses of the larger class and the preparations that the new people are making, are on a modest scale.

The Leiters are taking possession of their big, white castle which is quite the show place of the West End, but as nothing that family does ever suits their neighbors, the textures of their lace curtains is not considered by any means fine enough and so it goes.

Mrs. Clover is going to be very gay this winter. She has a young cousin, Miss Miller
