1858 Oct 19 Cutting down corn at Cedar Hill & fixing Land for wheat here Cutting down & stacking Corn & sewing wheat nearly done next to orchard –

20th Oct overseer Jordan & claiborne gone to Cedar Hill to commence overseers House this morning balance here & there same as yesterday a little cloudy this morning Cut & spayed Hunts sows shoats about a a week ago, 8 in number —

21st overseer Jordan & claiborne at Cedar Hill Cutting Logs for his House to live in next year We finished Sewing wheat here to day sewed 21 Bushels Twenty one, this evening pulling Corn by malissas House from chickens alse & Jerry Smith scouring out overseers House here; Sent Lowry & Jim to Cedar Hill. Plowing for wheat in LotMr Wyatt Rounding & Jointing shingles 2900 @ 4/6 pr Thousand & I have agreed to give him $1 pr day & put a hand with him from the time he begins after fixing the shingles, say next monday morning —

22nd we all went to work on Road from Dews to Codeys to day - Balance shucking corn picking out Cotton

23rd Sent Henry to Faris mill with 1 Log 8 or 9 Bus. wheat for flour & & Bus corn for meal Balance gathering corn Mr Chumbly fixing corn shelling Room Housing Corn etc gathering cotton to day. I am going to Riceville etc & Cedar Hill flour Plank to go there this evening at home this day Mr J D Hunts Lucy Ann here etc

25th Began to sew wheat at Cedar Hill & Mr Wyatt & Henry shingling dwelling house Mr Chumbly at Here sewing wheat etc etc.

1858 Decr 14th I went to Capt Fitzgeralds for Fannie to day but did not see him went to Aspen Grove, wrote for Bro. Yates nearly ½ the day, gave out Malissa 1½ Bus meal & a ps Bacon, Cothran striping Tobacco in new prize Barn, Halled leaves in evening sent Buck to Mill with 2½ Bus. wheat for him & let Miss Neals have 2 Bushels — Has not rained to day but cloudy —

15 Rained nearly all day some Striped Tobacco & went to Worsham saw mill

16_ Chumbly & Cothran here to day Mr Cothran Came about 12 or one at work on his overseers House Henry Halling Rocks Planks & ps Brick from Mr Hunts that he gave me

17th Mr Cothran & Chumbly are here at work On Overseers house, Mr Cothran spayed & marked my shoats here except one sow shoat got out, fine weather, Halled some plank from Mill, & owe Worsham for sawing a little & nailing on 2 pr s & shoes

18 All here at work on overseers house & finished about night Henry halled 2 Loads of wood about night,- at aspen Grove Fed & Buck halling leaves fixing shelters etc --

19th Sunday likely for Rain or snow this morning Clem Come home a little in the night,-

20th Sunday likely for Rain Monday I got up at 5 Oclock in morning & Raining stop about light & I went to Court rained several times in day I got back a little in the night Rained hard about night Kitty began to shrub orchard Claiborne & Henry Cutting wood etc, down at aspen Grove building Cothrans chimney -

1859 Feby 6th Tolerable cool day —

Feby 7th Monday Sent Henry down to Aspen Grove to Hall Stocks to Millers Mill for Hhds Staves etc Carry wheat & Corn to grind

9th Yesterday ^& day before we were Cutting fencing etc nailed boards on Jerrys Hen House, Henry has returned. him & Lowry Carried 8 Logs to Millers Mill, for Hhds Staves & Plank & Carried 1 Barrel Corn for us for meal ½ Barrel Do Corn & ½ Bbl wheat for Mr. Chumbly here & Carried 1 Turn wheat for aspen Grove had it all ground & brot home,- this morning still Raining & we are burning brush Cutting & getting Rafters & [sheds] for Houses etc,- - Mrs Neal here, Mr. Chumbly mended Sallies Shoes & Cut out mine

10th Mr. Chumbly made me a pair of shoes Henry Claiborne & little Henry gone to aspen Grove to strip Tobacco, cleared off Cold & windy Mrs Chumbly Sick all this week

11th Halling Rails to day around corn field fence Balance Cutting & Malling at overs =eers House cloudy & Snowing a little, at 10 Oclock, Sent Jerry Smith to aspen Grove with 1 lb Cotton for Malissa to spin & get wheat she has spun etc -

12th Raining a little we are Halling Rails & fencing, weather so disagreeable I did not go to meeting to day not being well enough for such weather Jacob not come yet from Lynchg

13th I went to Meeting to day- tolerable day Jacob Came Saturday night from Lynchg for his Lugs got 4.90 Seconds $5 & upwards & for his best got $8½ -

14th Cut & Malled wood to Day Henry halled Rails, around Corn field fence -

15. Cloudy & Raining a little this morning.

10th March 1859 Malissa Cotton & wool to Spin yesterday – Cothran has Two Hhds of Lugs Prized setting up another Hhd fixing grave yard. Sewing Oats down there Hester at work down there for a week past

11th Fencing fixing Bridge Cut little Ditch by Spring Sewed 6 Bushels Oats in Big Lot where we have some Corn, Plowed up overseers Irish Potatoe, Coltered his Garden Patch etc finished squaring Logs for Tobacco House Still fine weather Sewing down in big field on Road,- to day - Lila at work in the Garden etc. Planting Tomatoe Seed & Gourds on Road, Old shop place.

12th Rained Tremendous hard last night Halled Stack fodder, fencing Halling Rocks Rails & wood to day, fine morning finished Cross fence next to Capt Whiteheads. Jerry Fannie & all here to night —

13th We all went to meeting S. S. M House Fine day, in evening Bro Plunket Hunt & all stopedto Dinner & then Fannie & Kate went over to Bro Hunts

14th Raining this morning & wes made Rope works Plowed some for Oats before it begun to Rain fenced Some shelled Corn, greased Bellows, Bridles & Waggon Gear Collars etc Jeremiah H Graves came down last Satur =day went to meeting Saturday & Sunday & to day about 12 Oclock he started back in mail Buggy with Mr Hurt driver, uncovered Turnip Patch this day, about night Rained very hard washed very much, still moderate weather

15. This morning ground very wet fencing some fixing office & Porch Halling wood etc etc.

11th I went down to Plantation monday Henry went to Millers Mill got all my plank there, we have one Log at Yates

12th Began to Plow finished stilling only made last time about 15 Galls Sent Bob to Yates to get my Buggy mended Cutting Pines etc in old field to day – 3½ Gallons Brandy in runlet for FWF Cider Turned out very little - apples rotten The mare I Bot for Mr Hunts Est Died sometime the 1st of the fall

13 I went to Chalk Level to see Capt Tate but did not see him, got Blankets etc for myself & Est JD Hunt Due Henry went after waggon to move Mr Doss Plowing here rounding & Jointing Shingles Cutting down Pines Bob gone to Hubbards after corn for Rent

14 Gave Out negroes Blankets LittleBig Henry Smith claiborne & Clementina Milly Ann hadRhoda had one too one in house here, Malissa Abram & Kitty at Plantation aspen Grove Little Henry Had a Hat, here & Lowry & Sandy at Plantation cold sure enough to night

15th. Snowed last night & till after 12 Oclock to day nearly ½ leg deep Sent Henry & claiborne after my Pigs got some of them Capt Tate & Jerry come here to day & Jerry went to Mrs Worshams to get his coat cut & made Bybee come to see about Plank Jerry staid all night still very cold & cloudy

16 at home all day cold snow near one foot Deep melted but little

17th. getting wood Bob has not been here more than one day in 10 days. halling
