1845 August 2nd - Another shower Rain We are pulling up fence where the windwind Blew down last night, & toping Tobacco & Expect to Sew Turnip Patch this evening - put up steps at chamber doderdoor this Branch Camp branch So called as high as I ever saw it in my life

4. Sun shng shining grubing & cutting on Branch, Halling manure to turnip Patch & Rails for Hog Pen
6th Yesterday Rained moderate and we Rep =lanted the Lot at Lilas House & the granary Lot & began to Hill up Lots & new ground - Fed shoemaking Henry cutting on branch alse breaking flax Phil gone to shop
9th. Hilling up new ground Tobacco Plowing Greens in Garden
18th. The weather has generally been seasonable since the 1st August. Working Out Garden this morning. Went to Lynchburg 13th & 14 to get Paints to Pain[t] House,-
21. Rains every night or day & sometimes both machine got out Mrs. Hunts, wheat woodings machine Wrote to Mr Taylor Painter to come the 15th & do our work.

1845 Sept. 1st Covered in Tobacco House & began to Pull fodder here at Home -- Mr Taylor & Birchet Came at night to commence painting our House ———————
2nd Sept Sent for my wife. Just returned from charlotte Mr Taylor & Birchet Painting outside House - Pulling fodder
12th Finished Pulling fodder at stony point Painted the roof of our House this day
15 Cutting Tobacco, –
16 Cutting Tobacco & finished Pulling fodder Finished Painting outside of House
17 Painters Finished this evening
18 Painters left this morning Succoring Tobacco & cutting tops etc this day
20 & 21 I am sick & failed to go to meeting at Strait Stone
22 Picking Turnip Patch, Halling Rails & wood Phil gone to Rice Lila spining Balance cutting Tobacco
20 Sent to Mrs. Hunts for some flour which she gave my wife, flour Bbl full
December 1 - 13, 1845
1845 Decemr 1st last night rained & Hailed & sleet this morning 28th & 29th ^ noonI sent Henry to Mr Wm Collins Mill with 20 Bushels wheat to be ground into flour etc. he returned with 3 Bbls & about one Bushel flour 1/2 Bbl shorts 1/2 bbl shipstuff & about 15 Bushels Bran started one morning an hour besun [before sun] & returned next evening about sun Down. Killed our last Hogs 29th novr which day I went to Mr Hanfields & Mr McCullocks this morning 1st Decemr. continues to rain & we are shelling corn & spining Federick this 1st Decemr 1845 started to shoemaking at Mrs Hunts
2nd Decr. Hewed Plates for Jane & Henrys house Henry Halled up Mr Neals corn 1/2 the day - alse breaking flax Lila sewing —
13 This week D Lain framed the Top of new House & shingled it with my aid the 11th & 12th & this finished also nailed on Board on Henrys house
10th Decr. Commenced grubbing in new ground, 3 hands & little over half done, this 13th Decr, Kitty is sick taked sick Thursday or Friday - now very sick

1846 Jany 26th Finished cutting I expect to day & then striping Tobacco ———
27 Began to mall in new ground Phil & Fed Henry gone to shop withCart Lila & alse finishing striping in the Middle Barn
28. 2 Hands getting gate Post Fed malling alse & Lila stacking wood Mr Myers came here last night & set in this morning to set up Tobacco Hhds my wife & F.W. at Mrs Hunt last night & went to Doct Sutfins Beautifull weather about this day
29 Weather moderate, cloudy - Halling up gate Post towards granary Malling in new ground & Piling wood
30 Malling & Henry gone to mill & got 74 feet Hhd heading
31 Henry & Phil gone to Shields to roll Logs Balance took down Tobacco nearly all day Feby 1st cloudy this morning & like for falling weather my wife gone to Prayer meeting Mr Myers set up 2 Hhds & gone home 17 Lambs in Jany lost 5 —

1846 Feby 5 Commenced burning Large Plant Bed on Branch before Spring
6th Sewed Plant Bed this morning & fixing plan for sallet Patch Covered small Bed on mountain Henry & Lila plowing for corn Prizing Lugs about this time — Halled up stack straw this day
7th Commenced Raining last night soon the night snowed some, this morning Hailing & snowing, & we are striping Tobacco at New ground, - weather not very cold 19 Lambs to this day — times very hard Tobacco Lugs I am told is selling well Lila complaining & I bled her
8 Tolerable good day I went to Mr McC.
9 This morning very unexpectedly we see the ground covered with snow Striping Tobacco & finishing at new ground
10 Malling & Halling wood etc
11 Malling at new ground 2 hands Henry helping Mr Myers & halling wood Lila Plowing fixed a place to burn sallet Patch
