1845 August 20th. Raised barn at new ground this day 22nd Henry this day gone to Doct Whites Mill with wheat corn & a stack & is to bring my Palings Home Fed sick yesterday & day before — Succoring & toping Tobacco this day

26th Picking Turnip Patch & finished Hilling up Lot at Henrys house My wife son Jerry & nurse Ann started from home on yesterday Sunday to go to Charlott cty Va on a visit to Mr Overbys & Moseleys with Mrs Hunt - Fanny White sick - fine rain yesterday Sunday

Monday 2526th. Clear fine day for travelling

Tuesday 26. clear fine morning Grubing & Phil cutting Henry & Fed gone to Mr L to raise houses — —

27. cutting on Branch & grubbing Mr Lewis spayed 14 shoats & cut six & Turned out 2 young sows & 1 boar Mrs Scrugs put cloth in the loom - My wife did not start to Charlott till Tuesday morning & Pleasant came here same day about 12 & stayed till next evening making ladden etc etc

28th Grubbing & cutting Henry getting slab timber I went to Jno D Hunts & Mrs Hunts, my dear Nanny been gone ever since last Sunday to charlotte, — time seems long

29 Topping succoring and worming Tobacco today - started a letter to Colo Smith about over our

1846 Jany 3rd Cutting Big growth in new & trying this day to finish grubbing Phil gone to mill, carried our last cotton to Pick & 1/2 Bushel Buck Wheat & 1/2 Bbl for cows

4th Jany Sunday a Beautiful morning weather moderate snow that fell 1st Decem nearly gone some Ice in road Jany has been moderate as yet

5. Another Beautifull morning weather moderate Began to cut wood wood to burn Plant Bed on mountain, finished grubbingin new ground nearly

6th This morning raining moderately the weather moderate, we are striping Tobacco Rained Hard nearly all day Turned cold, & a Dreadfull night ——

7 Weather more moderate cloudy tho not raining striping Tobacco at new ground 3 hands, Phil gone to mill Federick shoemending, ground is very Wet about this time, snow nearly gone

8 in the morning cloudy & snowed a little Turned off windy & cold

9th a fine morning, we cutting in new ground & halling wood Pleasant making gates, 8 & 9

1847 Feby 4. Very cold & windy Fed malling Henry helping Mr Lain & halling wood the ballance cleaning out stables & raking leavesetc

6th Malling Rails & cutting down corn Stalks this morning, Mr. Lain framing waggon shelter, weather fine & fair, -

13 this week burnt Plant Bed on Branch above House striped Tobacco one day malling Rails & Grubing on Johns Branch Lila compla[in]ing & I [bleeding|[bled]] her Mr Lain at work on waggon House & little house this week — Pleasant putting latches on Gates etc etc etc, no plowing downby us yet

17 Sent waggon to mill 10½ Bushels corn 1 Log to be sawed into Railing 2 by 3 In. for yard & also 2 Bags seed Cotton weighing 46 lbs 47 lbs 93 lbsbags in allmaking newthis dayground fence

18 Striping Tobacco, Raining Mr Lain at work in shop

19 striping Tobacco & prizing Lugs. nearly done. Lady Jane Lame by a hurt.

20 Sent to Mr Lewis's to Roll Logs 2 hands balance cutting in new ground & Piling wood,

20 Cloudy & Raining yesterday & to day warranted E East JW this day

22 Haling Rails & fencing corn field

23 Same same & finished corn fieldfence

24 began to Plow for corn in earnest

25. Plowing for corn since we finished our fenceFed malling

Novr. 4th Mr Keatts finished chimney & left - Mr Fox at work on well, fine day. Johns Estates Pleasant & charles Halled Rocks to day & Henry all day

= 5th Fox at work on well chumney gone to the store, 2 Boys Cutting Henry Halling wood, sent Robin to shop to be shod before, Fox & Horse been here since 9 Oclock ThursdayWednesdayleft Saturday evening fine weather Mrs Hunt came back here this morning but going to Johns again. Fox left ½ after 2 Oclock this evening & horse went to Plantation in evening. No Fox, Hewed ps for Ice House in morning Killed little Beef weighted 142 lbs Halled up ½ stack Oats, cutting in new ground, Isaac overby here to day quite cool —

8 no Fox yet I went to Pannills & Tan yard got no Leather Sent for waggon fixings for Lynchg in morning chumbly shingling Henry, House claiborne & Jerry Smith Cutting malling Rails & wood & Piling –

9th Mr Fox has not come. Henry went after waggon & started to Lynchg this morning malling Mr Chumbly & little Henry at work Negro House

10th Nails gave out this evening I got back in Two days from Lynchg
