19th april 1860 Striping Tobacco, Raining nearly all day

20 I went to Sarah McCullock & aspen Grove & told Cothran to let negroes eat 10 Bus. wheat more than leaving upwards of 20 BusHalling out Manure here & hilling – moved Cows to day ¬– fine weather

21st Sent Turn Corn to Mill & bro^t back what^wheat Planting Corn next to Cap^t whiteheads

22nd We went to aspen Grove & I went on to Strait Stone M. H. to prayer meeting

23rd Finished Planting Corn except Lots this day Haling Out Straw & stacking it by new Stable, scattering manure & fencing Lot next to woods. — Mrs Lucy Ann Clements Broke up from Johns D Hunts place this day give me up the Keys. John P Hunt Matty & Alice all came here to day & L A Clement ^{Hunt came Saturday –}takes Doran, @ $6 pr month ^{& she gave me the Keys & delvd up every thing}

24th Fencing & Plowing Lots for Corn Nannie went over for Mrs Worsham to Cut Out Estates negroes clothes –

25. Sent Henry down to aspen Grove to Hall 4 Heart Logs 2 for me & 2 for sawing Palings for yard & Hall plank from mill saw for me last fall, got 3 Loads 2 [m?] at aspen Grove 1 Halled up here & more at Mill besides the Palings, yesterday I went to Mr Hunts Plantation, they were fencing here & Hilling.

26 Henry got home with a Load of Por[ch] flooring soon, & they are raking here I went to aspen Grove

27 Finished Planting corn to day wed out Irish Potatoes Halled leaves out new ground to day

29 Striping Tobacco Raining all day.

15th June 1860. Bob gone to get Mrs Hunts Horses shod. Weeding down Tobacco I got back from CH to Dinner Mrs Hunt came from Mrs Colemans - bob gone to shop I staid at Mr Jones last night went back to CH - to day & Banks has my Rec^ts etc to this day to settle — Bob brot for me 3 Bbls corn 3 sacks salt 1 Bb^l Lime, salt from & some ^corn from Millers for me nails & Iron from B for Hunts est & Plow P[o]ints etc from Richm^d. Car^d two Hh^ds Tobacco from Mr Hunts plantation = 16th Mrs Hunt Sallie & Alice gone to CH I went to see Betsy sick, & then to Sarah McCullock to settle acc^t between her & Mr J Mustain done so & then went to aspen Grove, they were cutting wheat in Lot & had cut Rye & it Rained as hard for nearly 1½ hours as ever I saw it got home about night, had to cross at Bridge by John Lewis s - some hail fell, did not do any damage,- till the Rain Plowing & weeding down Tobacco here, Rained tremendous hard & the wind Blew down a good deal of our fencing here,- & washed very much, We hope is Elvira is mending slowly rest all got out, like for rain again to night

17th Stayed at home all day Sunday

18 I went to Court settled my acc^t with Estate of JDHunt as Exer. - -Thined corn this morning Plowed young corn & wed it Layed by Irish Potatoes by Peach Orchard Laying Peach orchard Corn, broke fodder stack in upper Lot began to work Tobacco in evening.

19th June, 186. Put my Jenny about 2 weeks ago to Fariss Jack - Halled up stack Oats & 1 Fodder or broke the fodder stack moved into Dining Room to eat to night, Salley gone to CH Plowed Peach Orchard Corn & sweet Potatoes weeding down new ground Tobacco Send claiborne down to aspen Grove for scythe & Cradle, my old sow has five pigs - clear pretty day

20th Finished weeding down Tobacco, Laying by corn next to Cap^t Whiteheads, put stack Fodder in stable Loft this morning Mrs Hunts returned from CH to day with Sallie & Allice, fair weather I went to aspen Grove found them cutting wheat 5 of sheep & Lambs Dead there Fair weather

21st Bob here this morning fixing scythes & going to begin to Cut wheat in Lot sent Charles to Post office,-

22nd I went to see Mr Chumney yesterday, Rained in evening & stoped us from cutting wheat to day choped out Peach Orchard Corn, & worked Garden Plowing corn next to Whiteheads Cut some wheat all thats ripe clear & very cool of nights at this time

23rd Choping & Plowing corn next to Capt Whiteheads very cool & clear this morning Bob been here since wednesday —

24 I went to Prayer meeting & then to Cap^t Gilberts to see the old Poeple

25th Finished cutting wheat to day here fixing spring making fence & Plowing & choping in corn next to whiteheads - I bot Fannies mare Fleetfoot If she is sound when I see her at my Plantation at $50.

1860 June 30th Ben & Henry getting & fixing prize Shelter, clear & day hot

July 1st Sunday Dry & Hot, Sarah McCullock came here this morning, dry & Hot

2nd Mrs Hunt gone to Mrs Colemans Alice wont stay at Mrs Colemans to Board Began to Cut Oats in Orchard claiborne Cutting, dry & Hot

3 Plowing & Hilling up Tobacco, Bob went to Mrs Colemans with his mistress, I went over to the exhibition at Shenstone & after Jerry come up a cloud & we staid all night at Mr Moses s did not Rain but little

4th got home with Jerry soon this morning Sallie went with me, - Mrs Hunt & bob yet at Mrs Colemans, dry & Hot Jerry Harrowing late lot corn & then Halling up wheat, I Balance Hilling up Tobacco, dry & Hot weather — miss Sarah McCullock here yet. — gone

5th Finished halling up wheat, little Rain this evening I went to see Mrs Hunt at Mrs Colemans to day & to Plantation Cothran Cutting oats Finished Plowing Tobacco & We are Hilling up when we can - Mrs Hunt & Bob at Mrs Colemans yet. Sent claiborne to Plantation this 5th July to get scythe & Cradle to cut oats, Henry Halled up upper Land Leaves in stables, we expect to Cut Oats to day — finished Plowing Tobacco over & Cutting oats in evening I went to Mr Chummey Swapt Bill off got 50$ to Boot in Jewellry & got a Parcel of Bones sure enough the Horse I got a Large Cream Colr^d Horse about 13 years old, swapt with a man by the name of Isaacs

17th July 1860 Stacked Oats all day & finished put 1 stack in stable & put up 14 stacks claiborne stack one stack Bob stacked balance

18 - Henry Complaining gave him some Pills claiborne Jointing shingles all day balance began to shrub for Corn another on road my wife & Mrs Hunt gone to Mrs Colemans to see Isaac Overby who is there sick, bob Carried Mrs Hunt Carriage to shop to have tires, etc, Pal Came after work for his Mama Sent her 3 lbs wool Bags & all & some grease to grease it - Dry & Hot weather

19th I went to aspen Grove this day bob gone after Mr Overby & Mrs Hunt at Mrs Coleman Doct Thompson went to see Isaac Overby Rained 2 Showers in evening Run in the yard Grubing in corn field Henry sick & doing not much claiborne Jointing Shinglings & Digging whole for Prize Stump Jerry gone to Mrs Panills & shields to see about Thrashing their wheat

20th July cloudy, Shrubing for corn Toping Tobacco this morning first we toped

21. Shrubing corn field for 1861 Henry & Claiborne planking Prize shelter & Rounding & Jointing shingles I went to Fannies & Kates Sal & Alice went with me.

22nd I went to Prayer meeting clear & Dry in morning — In the shortly after I got home It began to Thunder & very soon a cloud come up & Rained hard, Severe Lighting - Rained a fine shower 3 times, Doct Estes stayed all night

23rd Striping Tobacco finished in big barn & then went to Little barn Plowing up Turnip Patch sewing Turnips in Garden etc etc Bob not here to day. Brought Bitter from aspen Grove mare bot of Mrs Fitzgerald.
