1857 March 9th Began to snow 9 or 10 oclock & snowing yet. nearly 12 Oclock

10th March, 1857 very cold winter morning Sewed Plants Beds over this morning about to finish malling to day, Halling Rails around stony pint plantation - of new groundout except to clean out fence row to day claiborne Plowing in fresh field Put manure on Plant Bed in new ground to day. Fountain Wyatt has not been here for going on 2 weeks - I don't know whats the matter

11th Put up fire under Plank in Barn Halling Rails to mountain field & stoney pint cleaning out fence Row at new ground & fencing etc - cloudy & like for falling weather- etc. Jerry started to school this week Began to Rain & snow about 2 Oclock & snowing about night, stop us at new ground at 3 or 4 oclock we to House, mending shoes etc etc,

12th Snow not much on ground this morning but very Cool, firing plank. Making new ground fence trying to finish it, waggon & cart Halling wood & straw till 12 oclock & then expect to Hall Rails out of new ground

13th Rolled Logs to day made 18 Heaps Began to snow again between 4 & 5 oclock stoped awhile before night. Mr Wyatt came here to work this morning- snowing yet nearly Bed time snow about or nearly shoe Deep

14th This morning snow on average about 7 or 8 Inches, cloudy & little snow falling yet shelling corn first Fed mending Jerry shoes expect to strip to Tobacco to day. quite still wind don't Blow Mr wyatt worked 2 days this week

1857 March 15th Real winters morning every thing frozen & snow went off very little yesterday ground covered yet lost one Ewe that had 2 Lambs & they are found Dead also

16th went to Court Cut House Logs & Burnt Log Heaps

17th Plowing & Burning Log Heaps, etc I got from court

18. Rolled Logs. 19th Rolling Log again 20th & finished this morning Mr Wyatt has been at worked in Barn on Porch till to day 19th & he & Henry began to frame Halling up Oats to sew & use, & Balance fencing at stoney pint - Jinkin log Heaps this morning cut up Heaps & Pilling again to Burn Rained very hard last night, & very windy this morning - & cool

20th Fencing at stoney pint Halling Rails for new fence from new ground to moun tain field, Henry helping Mr Wyatt framing & about Porch, fine day — —

21st Mr Wyatt at work at Barn, fencing claiborne Plowing Jordan Halling Rails for new fence Henry getting out Oats,- to sew,-

22nd Very pretty day indeed, Jerry gone to Mrs Hunts

23rd Halling Rails at Stoney pint & fresh field waggon & cart Halled floor of Porch this morning & Post for Porch fencing at mountain field cloudy & like for Rain, weather moderate, Mr Wyatt came this morning to work

24th Began to sew Oats Balance fencing Sent to mill 4 Bus. corn 1 Bus wheat etc

25 Sewing oats fencing & Halling wood & Rails out of new ground went Mrs Hunts & Fanny & etc etc very windy etc

26th Raised Porch second floor the morning Sewing oats cleaning up new ground Halled up fodder 1 stack this morning

1857 April 23rd weather moderated a little Mr Wyatt came to work at 12 Oclock to day

24th april 1857 Planting Corn at stoney pint. Coltering croping & Hilling at new ground

25 Halled up balance of House Logs at new ground Halled out 3 stacks Hilling & Planting Corn at Stoney pint. alse & little Henry droped[,] Sandy & claiborne opened beds Henry covered with Harrow. Beautiful day, & moderate Finished planting at stoney pint.

26th Went to Sunday School pretty day ————

27th Sent to Yates Mill 2 Turns 4 Bus. Corn & to get 4 Bushels meal get Henry Clay Shod Sent for 1 new Dutch Plow Hoe & sent to strap & p[o]int 1 Plow Hole & 1 Hilling Hoe, - Hilling at new ground & croping - Henry dragging bottom Sandy Harrowing beds in fresh ground like for Rain this morning ————— Planting corn by fresh ground Barn this evening

28th Henry helped Mr Wyatt on house to day Planting corn 1 Harrow 1 Laying off Jordan Coltering Balance Hilling —

29th Halled up fodder & oats to day coltering Hilling & Planting corn to day by the fresh ground Barn, - covering door on House this morning – – – – – Henry helping Mr Wy again - very cool

30th Planting corn Hilling this morning Croping & Coltering new ground - cloudy & like for falling – Give Abram Crews ½ Bus. Seed Corn for helping me fight fire when some person set fire to our mountain field. all hands except Jordan & Buck laying off & planting Corn

May 1st Planting Corn in fresh field all hands except Jordan & Buck Coltering & laying off

1857 June 2nd Nannie & me went to Fannies & carried her Buggy home I take 1 Sette 1 Harness @$15Our folks thining corn & Plowing & weeding at stoney pint,- fine weather at this time —

3rd. Replanting corn at mountain field. & weeding corn to day Carried all our Tobacco off This day - cool weather this morning

4th June, Plowed Tobacco Lot & scattered manure Plowing & weeding corn etc,- picking Plant Beds about this time,

5 June. Plowing & weeding corn, this day I went to Pittsya Court House

6th Plowing & weeding corn this day - Sent Mrs Hunt 5 or 600 collard Plants& some Potatos to Plant lent Miss Neals a Horse to Plow ½ day today

7 went to sunday school & we all went to Mrs Hunts pretty weather

8th Hester & Mr Fariss Jack this day. Plowing & weeding corn in field fresh Claiborne at stoney pint Plowing wrote to Doct White to go & see Fannies Jerry & Sent Letter to his Mill,-

9th Mrs Hunt Owes me for 1 Bottle Perry davis’s Pain Killer sent by Jerry, weeding & Plowing Corn in fresh field to day 10 Fine Rain yesterday & we planted some Tobacco in fresh ground & this morning we finished there & drawing plants & going on to new ground,- Planted my wifes Patch at Cow Pen this morning nearly finished planting new ground,-

11th another fine rain yesterday evening Picked & manured our Plant Beds

1857 Thursday 23rd We are Plowing & Hilling up lot tobacco in morning & then Halling up wheat waggon & cart & all hands etc showering weather nannie gone to Mrs H finished hilling up new ground Tobacco —

Friday 24th My nannie coming home this morning " " nearly done halling up wheat will commence halling up Oats to day. working tobacco in Lot this morning. Sent 4 Bus. corn & 4½ wheat to Eat to yates. Carrd 1 Bus wheat for Crews - etc Fine weather about this time, no rain this week Buck & Jerry Smith gone to mill

Saturday 25th I went to Fannies, Stack some oats choping & thinning mountain field corn Rained a little Sunday evening after I returned from S S S C

26th Sunday Our folks had Holliday Yesterday -

26th little shower Rain in evening

27th Henry Harrowing Corn Jordan & Sandy Plowing Tobacco Balance Hilling it up Sent Sandy to Mr Neals after Corn lent them & give them ½ Bushel wheat

28th Henry Painting on Carriage House Sandy & Jordan Harrowing Corn, dry Hot weather Balance Hilling up fresh ground Tobacco by Crews

29 Finishing fresh ground tobacco toped & worked nannies by Cow rack Sandy Harrowing corn Halled leaves in stables Henry claiborne Jord -an & alse Stacking oats, trying to finish Dry Hot weather & Corn sufferingfor rain gone to stoney pint to chop & thin corn etc

30th Rained a fine Rain last Evening & night & we this morning replanted pt of our fresh ground next to Mr Crews — Finished stacking Oats yesterday - this morning clearing off there & fencing in Oats stacks - like for more Rain picking wood etc etc.
