Adjourned until Thursday May 22 at 8 o'clock pm Attest: E S Osborne clerk Approved U M Rasin President of the Council May 22/84 On this the 22d day of May 1884 the Common Council of the City of Seattle meets in its Council Chamber pursuant to adjournment as a Board of Equalization. Present Councilmen, Thos Clancy, B F Day, Geo W Harris, Chas McDonald, U M Rasin & F W Wusthoff By reason of the absence of His Honor the Mayor H G Struve, Coucilmen U M Rasin is appoointed President of the council to serve during such absence. And now the Council proceeds with the examination and equalization of the Assessment Roll for 1884. The Puget Sound National Bank asks a reduction of their assment. Laid over Ordered that A A Denny & D T Denny be notified to show cause if any they have, why additional property should not be added to their assessment on Monday May 26, 1884 at 8 o'clock pm Ordered that the following changes & Corrections be made is said assessment Roll to wit: C T Dose on sec's 9&10 Tp24NR4E Lots 2&10 reduced to $125. James Mitchell on Lot 3 B 15 Yesler's fractional Block reduced to $50. J W George changed to read under 1/6/of E 1/2 of Lot 1 B 10 Maynard's M N Maddock $1000 on personal property taken off Walter Clancy & McNaught on Block 13 Maynard's reduced to $1200. 511 COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEATTLE July 25/84 Licenses ordered Issues Ordered that licenses be issued as follows, towit: J. W. Smith for Retail liquors for 3 months from July 19 Andrew Lumm & Co for Retail liquors for 3 months from July 26 Thos Kavanangh for Retail liquors for 3 months from July 24 O. P. Dahlquist for Retail liquors for 3 months from July 23 And now the Council proceeds to canvass the returns of the Election held July 14, 1884 with the following result, towit: First Ward Total number of votes cast 679 For Mayor John Leary received 508 votes Geo. Kinnear received 165 votes For Chief of Police James H. Woolery received 534 votes L. Miller received 134 votes For City Attorney C. H. Hanford received 194 votes J. B. 519 COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEATTLE. Aug 6/84 Be it remembered that on this the 6th day of August 1884 the Common Council of the City of Seattle meets in it's Council Chamber pursuant to the call of His Honor the Mayor John Leary. The Following Officers are present, Towit; His Honor the Mayor John Leary and Councilmen Chas F. Clancy, B.F. Day, Geo. F. Faye, W.A. Harrington, Franklin Matthias, B.L. Northrup, Alfred Snyder, E.F. Sox, and H.L. Yesler. Thereupon the following proceedings are had: And now His Honor the Mayor submits a message on the general condition of City finances, Together with suggestions for future legislation. Ordered filed. And now the Council proceeds to elect the City Officers for the ensuing year with the following result, To wit: Clerk: E.S. Osborne Harbor Master: D.H. Webster Health Officer: Dr. G.A. Weed Justice of the Peace for the City: S.B. Vrooman Policemen: E.A. Gardner, T.J. Small D. H. Webster, Wm Murphy Thomas Ross, Wm H. Pinckney James Welch, F.L. Bangs Street Commissioner: G.L. Manning Surveyor: R.H. Thomson Treasurer: J.D. Lowman And now His Honor the Mayor makes his appointments for the Committees as follows, To wit: Judiciary and Legislative{ B.L.
