1845 Decemr 1st last night rained & Hailed & sleet this morning 28th & 29th ^ noonI sent Henry to Mr Wm Collins Mill with 20 Bushels wheat to be ground into flour etc. he returned with 3 Bbls & about one Bushel flour 1/2 Bbl shorts 1/2 bbl shipstuff & about 15 Bushels Bran started one morning an hour besun [before sun] & returned next evening about sun Down. Killed our last Hogs 29th novr which day I went to Mr Hanfields & Mr McCullocks this morning 1st Decemr. continues to rain & we are shelling corn & spining Federick this 1st Decemr 1845 started to shoemaking at Mrs Hunts

2nd Decr. Hewed Plates for Jane & Henrys house Henry Halled up Mr Neals corn 1/2 the day - alse breaking flax Lila sewing —

13 This week D Lain framed the Top of new House & shingled it with my aid the 11th & 12th & this finished also nailed on Board on Henrys house

10th Decr. Commenced grubbing in new ground, 3 hands & little over half done, this 13th Decr, Kitty is sick taked sick Thursday or Friday - now very sick

1846 March 21st. Fed made our waggon Britching, sewing oats back Garden

22nd Sunday. very pretty day —

23 began to make Tobacco Hdls on Branch. Jane doing up Beds and Garden 3 Plows sewing oats Phil coltering in new ground, fine weather, TobaccoPlants up in mountain Plant Bed

24 Rained & we are striping Tobacco

25. This day finished Striping Tobacco 12 Oclock, & then plowing for corn & Tobacco Lot. Hilling on Branch & Phil to mill Twice — done prizing lugs & prizing short tobacco - took all our short down nearly —

26 Sewing oats Hilling on Branch & coltering new ground

27. do the same sort of work

28. went to Chalk Level myself doing same sort of work Sewed 17 or 18 Bus. oats

29. weather moderate Went to Mrs Hunt Henry Killed Mrs Hunts horse Tombury hired to do so by J D Hunt.

30. Sewing oats colter new ground, Hilling on Branch on hill sides — weather moderate —

31st Finished sewing oats except some wet Spots Shrubing Oats at Stony point

1846 April 1st. Plowing for corn 2 Plows alse & Mallisa began at 12 Oclock to Hill in new ground this we have been halling oat stacks out of new ground Phil Halling Rails along cross fence My wife gone to see Mrs. Coleman 2nd began to Hill in new ground 3 hands Lila & Henry Plowing for corn Phil Halling Rails around out side fence towards orchard & also along cross fence Jane in Garden Plowed up Tomato Beds Weather cloudy & very cool, like for snow or Rain, Sent Mr Crews Horse & Plow & Gear to toPlow to day & have also lent him a Horse to go to mill several times -

3rd A Beautiful morning Hilling colter in new ground & Plowing for corn. Henry hunting wild Hogs — Sewed Beets& salsafyyesterday

4 Another pretty morning Hilling in new ground Henry sewed flax Patch Lila Plowing in oats in bottom in Granary Lot Phil gone to shop with Plow Henry saw my my 11 wild hogs this morning but they were quite wild - have not ben up for 2 months — Sewed beets & salsafy a day or too ago. Planted corn & snaps in garden this day

5 Another pretty day like for rain or[friday?]

6th very pretty morning finished sewing oats Plowing for corn Coltering in new ground & Halling

1846 April 12th The weather is moderate & showery, very backward with our work Planted Sweet Potatoes & Garden Peas on the 9th which was last Thursday — —

13th Easter Monday - weather cool

14th Plowing for corn & coltering on Branch for a start, Hilling in new ground.

15 Trying to get done Plowing for corn to day — coltering on Branch. Scattering manure in Cotton Patch, Hilling for Irish Potatoes about this time my wild Hogs come up every morning — Planted Irish potatoes by the granary. finished Plowing this for cornevening

16th Beded Cotton Patch, covered Potatoe Patch by the Spring with leaves & straw - began to Plant Corn on right side of Path going down to little barn about 10 Oclock to day also snaps & Simblings - Planted 6 Hills Simblings in Potatoe Patch at Granary, Jane taken sick after dinner & about 4 Oclock the 17th her child born - a girl

17th Still planting Corn & laying off to Plant night & left in the field below Henry House — — —

18 Planting corn on left side Path in Big field — fine weather

19 Sunday meeting at S.S. fine day -

20. Planting by Turnip Patch

21 Finished on big side next to barn

1847 March 6th this week halled up some oats for seed & to feed Horses, cutting in new ground & malling, & this day Rolled Logs, Plowing for corn - weather good. only 4 Lambs alive at this time, -

March 8. breaking up Lot & burning log Heaps this day. Mr. Lain came again to work to day

9 Raining again & most tremendous wet every few days it Rains getting out seed Oats this morning Mr. Lain making carriage house doors Lala & Jane spining

10th Rained in morning about 10 oclock it faired off & a very pretty evening & we started to Lynchg with waggon & the worst time on man & beast that has been this winter viz. it began to Rain soon in the night wednesday night while we were at Locust thicket. Thursday morning dreadful, Raining Snowing & hailing & I slept in waggon the over night the rain etc put out our fire went to Campbell CH pestered some, there stayed all night all day night it snowed some, next morning started & got to Lynchg Friday about 12 oclock. Stayed all night sold our Lug Hhds Saturday morning 13th for $2.25. Started for home 10 or 11 oclock & got home Sunday evening Horses very much worsted, it snowed also friday night — balance burning log Heaps

16 burning log Heaps Henry gone to mill Fed helping Mr. Lain get yard post

17 Henry halling out rails Fed helping Mr. Lain Balance cutting etc

18 Finished getting yard Post brot from mill to day 15 Bus meal
