6. Plowing for corn& Potatoes& Hilling

7 Planted Sweet & Irish Potatoes & GardenPeas back of Garden -

15 Rained yesterday morning & last night a little, planted corn in garden Snaps Beets etc about 1st Apl Mouse & Pink had their calves about 12th Lilas Leg sealed about 8 Inst., — planted water melon seed in Sweet Potatoe Patch - 16 Fine Rain yesterday

16 Packing Tobacco, etc etc

17 Turned off cool & we commenced on yesterday 16 to plant corn in fresh ground & finished that pt this evening, -

18 Fair & cool 19. Cloudy & cool planting corn below barn in big field

19 Laying off corn ground & collering & Halling in new ground

20 Same work 21st began to Plant corn at 12 Oclock Finished breaking corn ground 20th - 22nd Planting corn in big field - Johns, - Tobacco plants small

23. Planting corn etc weather dry

24th Rained a little last night, nearly done planting Johns field - uncovered little plant Bed above House, -

25 fair day, cool weather Finished planting corn except flatLand 26 Beding flat ground & cleaning up on Branch, alse & Jane Hilling in new ground

26. Thursday & friday cloudy & Rainy Laying by corn when wet Raining Fed shoemaking balance weeding new ground Tobacco, Plowing in Johns field - clear this morning

28 Fine growing weather began to cut wheat saturday evening & this morning Plowing in corn field & Hilling Sweet Potatoes & then for cutting wheat etc in fresh ground 29th Laying by corn 29thnext to orchard, & weeding down second yrs ground, - tremendous Rain this evening

30 ground full wet to wet cut some wheat to day & Plowed some —

July 1st Plowing next to orchard & weeding seconds yrs Tobacco Land weather cool at night & mornings

2nd & 3rd. Laying by big field & lot Tobacco & cutting wheat etc etc

5 Hilling up cotton weeding Lot Tobacco nearly done laying buy Corn

8. Not quite done Laying by Corn. Hilling up Sweet Pottoes, — fixing Turnip Patch Raining this evening —

9 Raining this morning & it rained very hard last evening — weather warm, Fed shoemaking alse & Ann shelling Corn Jane & Lila spining, Henry gone to shop

10 Henry gone to mill with 2 Bbls Corn, Balance Grubing in new ground Rained for several days hard & ground very wet

12 Cutting wheat about this time

20 Cutting Oats & Finished this day — got up most of our wheat Saturday 17. Tobacco all very bad off wet & Grass

18 Aug 1847 Catharine Spiller started to Pine_ =ville to Miss L Wilson’s School at Pineville Academy. Board at Mr & Mrs Clark @ $7 pr month $10 for Tuition of 5 months - Board & Tuition $9 pr month - fine weather

23rd Too wet to Thrash wet. Succoring & worming & Topping Tobacco on Branches here & at Johns

25 Rained all day yesterday yet cloudy succoringworming& topingground etcnew Jacob P Graves starts to Mr. Waddel to school @ not quite $1 pr. month for the time he goes.

27 Thrashed out our wheat

30 Cloudy & foggy this morning succoring & topping Tobacco this morning Rained very hard Saturday evening —

31 Talton & Henry put up chimney to House for Jane. began Monday 29 & worked 2½ days & went Home sick

Sep 1st Pulling fodder in fresh ground & cutting Buck Wheat there yesterday alse & Fed went to Mr Hunt to pay for Epp & Allen helping me to thrash our wheat —

2 Pulling Fodder in big field to day Tying up Blade fodder etc etc Ann & Jane in House. Henry at Mr. LewisRaising barn

3 Worming & succoring Tobacco this morning Henry gone to mill weather good

4 Succoring Tobacco & worming to day.

6 Succoring & worming Tobacco weatherfine

17 Been succoring Tobacco & Finished Pulling Fodder 15th now stacking

1848 Feby 26th gone to mill ½ Bbl Buck wheat & 2 Logs 1 for square Edged Plank the other for Railing 2½ by 3 Inches.

27 Fair day & good weather for winter my wife gone to Mrs Hunts etc etc

28 fencing Halling Rails at stony point

29 Rolled Logs Plowing & Raking leaves in little new ground,

March 1st finished Rolling Logs with our own force & began new ground fence

2nd This morning snowing, spining etc Snowed all day, its now 4 or 5deepInches very disagreeable weather indeed

3rd Halled up stack Oats this day & seed Oats a few days past - spining & shellingcorn Hail & snow about 8 or 9 Inches Deep

4 Treading out2 stacksseed Oats to day Fed shoemaking. Lila & Jane spining Sent 2 Horses to shop to be shod new shoes before old ones nailed on behind Fair day & moderate weather snow melted but little yet, my wife been sick with toothacke|tooth]] nearly all weekache etc. took Physic this morning

5 Cold & windy snow melts slow Bled Malissa this morning

6 Sent Henry to Rice for molasses, Jane & Lila spining. Fed shoemaking ann spining. fine day over head

7. Burning Log in big new ground fine day over head very sloppy.

8 Burning Log Heaps & halling wood

9 Raining this morning spining & doing but little, - very wet about this time,

14 began to Plant Corn in mountain field & finished Plowing for corn began to Plant at Stony Point this evening —

15. Planted drilled corn at Stony point & Hill at Home

16 clear & cool 17th making up yard fine & Planting corn at home clear & cool

18 Planting corn at home & will finish to day Put Plaster on Beds of Tobacco Plants Planted Pepper this day or yesterday Planting chick corn at home

19. Burnt sallet Patch & Hilling Planting chicked corn in evening at stony point, very cook & windy & dry

20 Planted Do at stony point, cold night Dry & windy about this time -

21 Finished Planting corn this morning coltering & Hilling in new ground & second years. Dry & windy weather more warm

22nd Coltering second years land & new ground Hilling. moderate weather & cloudy.
