1845 Decemr 28th This Month truly has been winter throughout cold & snowy weather People generally so far enjoy good health

Dec 29 little cloudy weather not very cold tho the snow melts but little Mrs Hunts Allen came here this morning to work for Fed making shoes, has to work 8 days —

30 little cloudy weather moderate snow melts but Slow Kill cherry this day or yesterday - cutting wood in new ground Halling wood etc

31 Soon in the morning clear & moder -ate after the morning cloudy & like for falling weather, cutting in new ground & Halling wood Hung up our meat yesterday —

1846 Jany 1st A little cloudy soon in the morning Bids fair for a pretty day after morning cutting little growth in new ground Halled stack straw to fodder stack & 4 Loads of wood for Andrew Crews began this day about 11 Oclock to cut big growth but not ½ done cutting little growth

2nd Rained last night snow melted Smartly weather moderate Bid fair for another pretty day. Began to rain about one Hour be[fore] sun last evening very windy & somewhat cloudy

3rd Jany very pretty morning weather moderate

18 Aug 1847 Catharine Spiller started to Pine_ =ville to Miss L Wilson’s School at Pineville Academy. Board at Mr & Mrs Clark @ $7 pr month $10 for Tuition of 5 months - Board & Tuition $9 pr month - fine weather

23rd Too wet to Thrash wet. Succoring & worming & Topping Tobacco on Branches here & at Johns

25 Rained all day yesterday yet cloudy succoringworming& topingground etcnew Jacob P Graves starts to Mr. Waddel to school @ not quite $1 pr. month for the time he goes.

27 Thrashed out our wheat

30 Cloudy & foggy this morning succoring & topping Tobacco this morning Rained very hard Saturday evening —

31 Talton & Henry put up chimney to House for Jane. began Monday 29 & worked 2½ days & went Home sick

Sep 1st Pulling fodder in fresh ground & cutting Buck Wheat there yesterday alse & Fed went to Mr Hunt to pay for Epp & Allen helping me to thrash our wheat —

2 Pulling Fodder in big field to day Tying up Blade fodder etc etc Ann & Jane in House. Henry at Mr. LewisRaising barn

3 Worming & succoring Tobacco this morning Henry gone to mill weather good

4 Succoring Tobacco & worming to day.

6 Succoring & worming Tobacco weatherfine

17 Been succoring Tobacco & Finished Pulling Fodder 15th now stacking

1847 Dec 31st Took down Lugs & also new ground barn Tobacco this day

1848 Jany 1st Striping Tobacco & Halling wood cloudy all day & weather warm

2nd Rained last night & this morning clear & windy & much cooler —

3rd Mrs Coleman fails to send any of her hands to the Iron works Mrs Hunt only sends One instead 2 I this day wrote to them by allen a letter respecting them, shrubing Halling up corn stalks & Cutting in new ground, fine weather at this time A Beautiful day 3rd day Jany 1848

4th A little cloudy but moderate weather fine morning, & bids fair for a good day Plowing shrubing & Cutting in new ground

5. A little Cloudy weather moderate Plowing yesterday & to day for Corn cutting in new ground. Raining by old wheat House by side fence by CottonPatch

6 Pleasant morning, cloudy a little Plowing & Cutting little growth

7. Beautiful morning clear, Plowing & Cutting little growth in small new ground

8. Cutting wood for to Burn. Plant Beds & Plowing 2 Plows —

10. Burning Plant Beds on mountain

11 Finished burning 2 Plant Beds on mountain & sewed them, -

12 went to mill carrd 2 Bbls corn & 2½ Bus. screan wheat for cows Settled with Abysom Lea at Mr H.

13. Sent 20 Bushels wheat to Mr. Pannills
