731 COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEATTLE Jan 4 1886 From Committee on Fire And Water recommending that the petition of Fred Klenen for permission to maintain a wooden partition constructed in his store at 814 front Street be granted. On motion the report is adopted. Councilman Calligan voting no. From Same Committee reporting that the site of the sunken steamer Mississippi had been properly marked adopted From Committee on Health & Police recommending that the petition of Patrick Flynn et al for the establishing of a free soup house by the city benot granted for the reason that the Committee does not think the same necessary of expedient. Adopted Frm Street committee reporting that Depot Street had been opened as petition for Adopted From Same Committee recommending that the matter for opening Lenora Street and Olive Street be laid over for the preent. Adopted From Same Committee presenting a majority report in the matter of the Lincoln Street bridge recommending that a new bridge be built, Adopted Councilman Calligan voting no and On motion the Street Commissioner is instructed to progress towards a selecting a practicable route to the head of the Bay for a new road. Report read and ordered filed and the Committee directed to secure the reight of way across private property free of charge to the City and report at the next meeting.

736 JOURAL OF THE PROCEEDINGS OF THE Jan 15 1886 Be it remembered that on this 15th day of January 1886 the Common Council of the City of Seattle meets in its Council Chamber pursuant to law: the following officers being present, to wit: Hon. H. L. Yesler, Mayor and Councilmen R. H. Calligan, J. Furth, Geo. W. Hall, W. A. Harrington, John Keenen, T. W. Lake, Chas McDonald, J. J. Post, and G. W. Young, when the following proceedings were had, to wit: Petitions etc Received Petition of E. S. Ingram et als praying that Lenora Street be vacated from the alley between Front and Second Sts to Second Street. Read and referred to Street Committee. Petition of Mrs. Scurry et als praying that the alley in Block 8 of Maynard's Plat of Seattle be graded to correspond to the grade of Washington Street and a suitable drain be constructed through the alley to connect with the sewers on Washington Street. On motion the petition is granted and the City Attorney instructed to draw and submit the necessary ordinance ordering such improvement. Petition of Thomas Burke praying that the Union Street sewer be extended by a branch sewer into the alley in Block 4 of A. A. Denny's Addition: Read and on motion the petition is not granted. Councilman McDonald voting against said motion. Petition of James W. Norris et al praying that the three Chinese wash houses on the corner of Mill and Fourth Sts be declared a nuisance and abated the same being in the immediate vicinity of a number of private houses; read and on motion othe petitio is granted and the Chief of Police directed to abate the nuisance. Petition of James Monague et al praying that a Chinese on 6th St between Mill and Washington Sts be declared a nuisance and abated. Read and on motion tabled.

Report of City Surveyor on Stone Corner Monumants read and referred to Committee on Public Grounds and Buildings. Committee Reports Received From Finance Committee recommending that the sum of $5000.00 be transferred from the City Fund to the Road Fund. Adopted From Street Committee recommending that the Wharf at the foot of Madison Street be leased to the Commercial Mill & Lumber Co. Report adopted and and a lease ordered drawn for the period of two years at a rental of $5.00 per annum the wharf to be kept in good repair by the leasee. From Same Committee recommending that the petition of E H Ingraham et al for the abandonment of Lenora Street be not granted. Report adopted From Comittee on License and Revenue reporting back the petition of R Russell et al praying that the license of vehicles be made payable one year in advance without recommendation. On motion said petition is granted. Councilman T W Lake & John Keenen voting no From Committee on Fire and Water reporting that the new bell for Engine House No 1 has been received and accepted and properly hung in the Belfry. Adopted
