16th Finished weeding Corn this day & worked Peas etc etc Cotton & all done & began to work new ground Tobacco Laying by mountain field Corn

17. Laying by mountain field corn choping in new ground Tobacco Dry & Hot weather fannie & Jacob gone

18- Finished Lying by mountain field with Plows Choping out new ground Tobacco. no Rain last evening – fine rain at Mrs Hunts, Laying by Corn in Johns’s field,Henry is gone to Mill 8 Bus Corn Lila had a Girl child 16th June 1853 Fed sick Sallie ^{claiborne & milly ann} Ben has measles –– Jordan Sandy Lowry abram Fed Cate Jacob Sallie & Clem has had mumphs & Jerry & perhaps some others.

21st began to Cut wheat in Lot - choped over mountain field Corn & now following Plows Laying by - in Johns s field Sandy & Pallor has measles, going to finish shearing sheep mark etc this morning Jordan & Lowry also in house measles this evening & with Federick & Lila, 9 down in the house at this time & Kitty has mumphs tho out

22nd We are cutting wheat next to or= chard ^{& lot} to day Abraham Crews helping & still dry & hot, oat drying up very much & Tobacco plants in the Beds, what we have have planted missing very much 4 of our plant Beds look well last week tho they may have Dyed since at mountain 2 in new new ground look well one is gone

1854 Sept 26. Peggy has been Sick nearly a week Doct Thompson Called Twice or 3 times to See her we are stacking Our Tops & firing tobacco & finished stacking this this evening -

27. Finished Roof of Barn nearly - Jordan halling wood, Balance worming & succoring till 12 Ocl then started to Cutting Lot & Guanoed Lot & new ground ground, nearly cured old prize Barn Tobacco, We are weaning Netty at this time, cloudy & like for Rain - Children Stop going to school this day —

1854 Oct 28 From 27th Sept till this day I went to Orange & Louisa Carr^d Kate Kate while I was gone they finished Our Tobacco & began to Sew wheat & we have nearly finished all except the Tobacco Lot by old prize barn, got up all of mountain field Corn & began & got up 6 Loads from Stony pint, this day it rained nearly all day. we are shelling Corn firing Tobacco etc etc - Turned a little cooler — Mr Crews bro^t me 87 lbs fodder instead of any Oats which was due me last Spring

6 Novr Shucking Corn & shoemaking,- Housing Corn etc - Abram little Henry claiborne & Lowry had their Caps this day. Clementina Kitty Lila Sandy Claiborne & Lowry had Blankets this day quite Cool & Rained Saturday nearly all day David Miller very Sick my Leg sore I did not got to Sunday School yesterday —

11th We have been Halling up corn for Several days this week between Ditches in fresh field, have not near got down yet, began to Rain last night Rained all night & continues this morning very wet & warm, finished making our Shoes to day

1855 June 2 Planting Tobacco to day new& small p^s fresh ground at stony point Mr Crews & abram Planting fine Rain & season as ever I saw Just Plowed & worked out branch Second time before it Rained, fine weather now

4th Planted Johns’s Branch Tobacco to day & p^r of p^s next to orchard & p^r of Jacobs Beding Lot in evening of this day Sewed Peas on branch Just before Rain Planted Collard Plants & finished this day Nannie gone to Mrs Hunts, – got 2 Bags of meal last week & 2 more at Yates mill – worked over Cotton etc etc last week

June 6th Beded up & Hilled Lot, Thining Corn the 7th Henry yesterday Car^d my last Toba to Mr Anderson as we came back took in a Hh^d for Capt Fitzgerald & Henry has started for Lynchg this morning – Finne growing weather & every thing has improved very much in deed ¬

9. Finished Planting Tobacco yesterday Planted all day long in evening negroes Planted Mrs John S Lewis very like to die at this time,- fair this morning & Cool

13th Mrs Lewis Died the 11th June & buried 12th 1855 weeding down Tobacco Harrowing Corn Sent Jordan with 2 Bags Corn to mill 4 Bus. & to get 10 Bushels at mill

22 Cut wheat Straw yesterday all day where the chinch bug injured the wheat; Fed & little Henry working Cotton Hilling Sweet Potatoes weeding down, Tobacco began 20th to Lay by Corn & sewed Peas & Guano In fresh ground above House.

10th Novr Fountain Came here to finish my Corn house yesterday friday a little after 12 Oclock & worked till Saturday Night @ $14 pr month

11th Cloudy & drisling Rain —

19th Fountain Wyatt finished Corn House & we have settled for it & we are Housing Corn

4 Halling Logs to Yates Saw Mill Grubbing Jordan cut wood at Mr Neals – James M Fitzgerald Died at his Fathers on the 1st day of Decemr 1855 about 10 Oclock in the night We have burnt & sewed 2 Large Plant Bed this week & last week Say 1st Decr 1855 got our sheep this week Killed this 12th Decr 1855 8 Fat Hogs Halling wood & Cutting & Grubing

20th Cutting little growth in new ground Grubbing in Corn field on Johns branch Raising weaving House have Commenced plowing on branch for Corn fine open weather Jordan gone to with 3 Bushels screan wheat for chop 2 Bus D^o for flour & 4 Bus. Corn for meal

13 13 Doct Thompson has been 4 times to see clem Sent 2 Letters by him to PO one to Capt Boxley & one to Cobbs of Lynchg Jerry & Jacob gone to Fannies dry & ^weathermoderate

14 Went to help Crews Roll his Logs Abram gone from home Coltering & Hilling at Second years ground Jordan gone to Coltering in new ground crossing after we come from crews, Sandy Harrowing Corn Land fine weather except ^{& Cool}dry Finished coltering & Laying off Second yrs Land Laying off Corn Land on Johns Branch

15 Laying off corn ground & will try & begin to Plant Kitty taken sick this morning clem Just Jerry Smith & Pal both Laid up, Doct T. was not by yesterday moderate dry weather – Doct Thompson came again to day this is 5th Planted oregon Peas at [water stains] this time & Pepper at Plan [water stains]
