1852 May 29th Sent Jordan to Mill 2 Bus. Corn — — 31– Planting Tobacco all day to day Hired Geo Surry & June to help plant Beded & Planted nearly all the big Lot - clear & cool, - Cate gone to Mr Patricks Mrs McCullocks mare. to day —

June 1st PlowingPeggy sick her mama here, Jordan Dutch & Henry colter & weeding Branch Corn Jordan & Henry Lila Throwing from corn with McCormick

2nd weeding slipe next to corchard this morning Plowing & weeding bottoms below new ground Jordan gone to Mill, Sandy Plowing - weather clar & fair, went to Mrs McCullocks yesterday

3rd Federick went to Mill yesterday 7½ Bus corn, weeding corn next to Orchard Henry Plowing fresh ground corn, Jordan Plowing left side of Patch by middle Barn. Lila Coltering, Sheared Sheep this day all but 4 & Rain stoped us, A fine Rain this evening Turned cool -

8th Last saturday we Planted over our Tobacco again fresh ground & Lot very nearly all missing had to drop the plants at both places finished before night New ground not missing much replanting last evening balance on branch weeding corn next to Orchard in fresh ground Henry Jordan & sandy plowing big side next to middle barn rained yesterday & we Tobacco in evening assorted some still rains a little fine growing weather Went to Mr Fitzgeralds last Sunday & got backsame day

9 & 10. Plowed cotton & Potatoes & corn & weeding corn finished Drilled Corn next to Orchard

11th weeding & Plowing drill corn next to barn by mi dle Barn, & then went in evening to fresh ground where we are Plowing & weeding to day

14 Plowing & weeding corn below House & Plowing & Harrowing on Branch Plowed & weeding & Hilling up Sweet Potatoes Put Out Tobacco to Sun & Dew this day take us several days to get done weeding corn

18. Hilling in 3rd yrs Land. Coltering in Second clear pretty weather, Jacob Cate had measles Clem & Jerrys only 2 cases of mumphs Jacob & Jerry

19. Finished planting corn & Peas this day before 12 Oclock & Replanted Corn — Federick gone to Millers Mill 8 Bus Corn Hilling in fresh ground windy & cool Began at 12 Oclock to Plow in Corn

23 Plowing & Hilling second yrs Land

24 Planting Tobacco to day Do—— Do

25 Planted new ground & nearly done the 3rd yrs Tobacco Land, sent Jordanto Plant Tobacco for Plants to Kelly Jacob Cate clem & Jerry has had measles Jacob & Jerry the mumphs sallie Peggy and Several had the mumphs or a little swelled under the Jaw catharine S Catharine clem Jordan and Lowry

28 Plowed & weeding fresh ground at mountain yesterday & coltering 2nd yrs Land Plowing in corn field clear & cool till yesterday & warm to day Hilling to in 2nd yrs Tobacco Land & Plowing in Johns field replanted Cotton & Broom Corn wed Sweet Potatoes Day before yesterday Loaded waggon for Lynchg monday morning

30 waggon started to Lynchg this morning 1 Hhd Seconds adkinson to have it Sold, Hilling in 2nd yrs ground for Tobacco,

31st Finishing Hilling this morning in for Tobacco 2nd yrs Land cloudy & Likely for Rain, Cate sicklast night again

1853 Sept 3rd Rained all day Carrd yes= =terday In all before to this night 20 Logs to Yates Mill not Sawed nor Devrd

4 went to Wm Dews s to see him hepling he is

5. Sent to Mill 10 Bus Corn for meal worming & succoring Tobacco & Topingthis day

=6. & 7 Pulled fodder at mountain & at home

8th Rained Caught all my fodder on ground

9th still raining. yesterday we squared Barn Logs wormed & succored Tobacco all over but second yrs ground Peggy Sally Ben & all the chaps nearly got bad Colds Sally has been sick Raining & Mr Irby gone Mr Lipscomb at work on Buggy shaft but cant do much on a/c weather

1[ink spot] went to meeting Mr Plunket Elected Preacher Mr Lipscomb worked a little this morning pulling on Buggy shaft. —

12 Toping worming & succoring gathering Blade fodder squaring barn Logs etc -

15. yesterday worming & succoring Tobacco & stacking fodder very sorry & not one stack of good saved yet - this morning worming & succoring & Toping new ground Tob. Killed Lamb squaring Logs. good deal of fodder on ground. we have stacked 5 stacks Blades worming succoring & toping new ground Mr Lipscomb left at 12 Oclock

16. Stacked one stack fodder next to orchard Finished worming & succoring new ground to day Pulled some fodder & Cut some Tops finished Halling Barn Logs —

19 Tying up fodder worming & succoring & Toping Tobacco, Squaring Barn Logs

1854 Sept 26. Peggy has been Sick nearly a week Doct Thompson Called Twice or 3 times to See her we are stacking Our Tops & firing tobacco & finished stacking this this evening -

27. Finished Roof of Barn nearly - Jordan halling wood, Balance worming & succoring till 12 Ocl then started to Cutting Lot & Guanoed Lot & new ground ground, nearly cured old prize Barn Tobacco, We are weaning Netty at this time, cloudy & like for Rain - Children Stop going to school this day —

1854 Oct 28 From 27th Sept till this day I went to Orange & Louisa Carrd Kate Kate while I was gone they finished Our Tobacco & began to Sew wheat & we have nearly finished all except the Tobacco Lot by old prize barn, got up all of mountain field Corn & began & got up 6 Loads from Stony pint, this day it rained nearly all day. we are shelling Corn firing Tobacco etc etc - Turned a little cooler — Mr Crews brot me 87 lbs fodder instead of any Oats which was due me last Spring

6 Novr Shucking Corn & shoemaking,- Housing Corn etc - Abram little Henry claiborne & Lowry had their Caps this day. Clementina Kitty Lila Sandy Claiborne & Lowry had Blankets this day quite Cool & Rained Saturday nearly all day David Miller very Sick my Leg sore I did not got to Sunday School yesterday —

11th We have been Halling up corn for Several days this week between Ditches in fresh field, have not near got down yet, began to Rain last night Rained all night & continues this morning very wet & warm, finished making our Shoes to day

12th Jany 1857 little Henry gone to bring the horses back. had a pair of shoes put Fillmore at Dews shop & got 10¢ from my Nannie to pay for putting them on Henry went to Yates mill to day Carried 5 Bus Corn & got 2 Turns Meal, Carried another Log for Hhd staves making 2 for Hhds staves Mr Wyatt came here this morning to sett up Hhd & did not finish it

13 went to Shanks & sold his property for JD Hunt Mrs Coleman, Mr Wyatt fixed the crusher to day & finished Hhd this morning Cutting big growth in new ground clear cold weather tho moderated a little, ground 2 Bbls Cob & corn to day etc,

14th Sent 1 One more Log to Yates for Hhd staves making 3 there 2 Turns Corn for meal & Sent 1 Large Log to Dews for Hhd staves Cutting big growth in new ground to day commencing Snowing about 12 oclock to day & snowed about ¾ hour & stoped still cloudy little has not come back yet Wednesday night

15th Cutting big growth in new ground fixed Cover for Cob Crusher this morning went to shop & had buggy mended etc, Cold day Thursday this day 15th little Henry got back from Charlotte a little in the night gone 4 days We have one little lamb come some days ago

16th Last night about 3 oclock this morning we were alarmed by the Cry of Fire Peggy had caught a fire & with great difficulty we put it out Kitty & myself Kitty thought of the Pale of water & threw it on her & soon we
