24th March 1859 Our Friend & Bro John D Hunt Buried this evenining at 4 or 5 Oclock in evening, good many poeple -

25. went over to examine bro Hunts papers John Dew with me & Danl R. Hunt. Chumbly sick all day. Finished Sewing Oats & now Plowing for corn Jacob claiborne & Jerry Smith Cutting & malling wood & Rails - moderate weather

26 I went down to see Jas Shields about going to Lynch’g they have 5 prized Hhds at aspen Grove, 3 Lugs 2 seconds,- Lila sick & has been for about a week, moderate weather Jacob claiborne & Jerry Smith began this morning to cut down Pines down below Susan Roark Sallie Started to School went with Fannie yesterday, 25th March to Board at $4 pr month as long as she goes to school to Kate,

26th I went to aspen Grove, balance Plowing on far branch for corn -

27th I rode over to Bro Hunts place

28th Plowing on same branch 3 plows Mr Chumbly shoemaking for Sallie to daytill evening

[2]9th Raining this morning hard Cutting & malling wood & Halling wood up to day -

30th Shrubing for corn Beding for Do Cutting Post for yard, etc Sent this morning to Hodnetts Kelleys Shields & Whiteheads to see about my young Hogs but could hear a word from them all my young Hogs gone, & has been more or less for sometime

31st Plowing for Corn on Branch next to Capt Whiteheads balance stoping Gullies & washed places in Lot & Mr Chumbly worked on smoke house putting on weather boarding I went to Fannies & Mr Faris for her [illegible]

1859 July 23rd. working on negro House Barn & made door & fixed cellar Hut etc took John 1 day to Plaster over big room first time Bob left this morning with Mrs Hunt for the Court House, looks like for rain

24th went to prayer meeting at Strait Stone like for rain this evening,-

25. cloudy & like for Rain this morning Sent Kate another bottle of Brandy Toping fresh ground Tobacco working framing Top of Barn Cutting down Pines beyound Susan Roarks,- putting up Bed stead John Plastering big Room over we expect to Load our waggon for Lynchg & Jas Shields to day — We have 15 Hogs in pasture 2 in pen we have 33 or 34 at aspen Grove & 6 or 8 pigs, James shields Loaded & carried 1 Hhd & little Bbl fine Tobacco, - Cash paid him for Toll $1.00

28th memorandum of trip to Lynchg last made 1859Tobacco Tobacco sold at Frds 1 Hhd 1040. 120 920 sold W.a. 1860 Decr 23rd I went to Strait Stone Prayer Meeting very white or Black met, day very good for time of the year

24th Cutting wood for Plant Bed, Halling fire wood in the evening & Halled up 1 stack fodder to use in stable & 1 Load Shucks,

25th Snowed a little last night, alice sick with sore throat, went to old place give some Lard for them there & sent them a dram & this morning gave them some cider & got some for Mrs Hunt, etc etc fine day —

26th I went to Mrs Colemans to see Alice pd Mrs Coleman Balance of money got from CH. for her went to Welden Holders. Mr Hubbards & Mrs Hunts Place did not rent it to Waller, me & Mr Hubbard viewed the Land of Mrs Hunts he wants to buy some 40. or 50 acres which I agreed he might have at $12 pr acre - then I came home fine day

27 - went to chalk Level to hiring - cold day & fair —

28. went to Mount Airy no hiring cold fair day —— Mr Chumney my Overseer moved here to day Henry move him & I am to give him 3/-

29th. Halling Leaves Cutting & malled at Plant Bed, - to burn. it & at 12 Oclock we will get wood Hired Danl R Hunts boy John to Holder again $27½ for next year, Snowing again to night. Rented to Susan Roark the place where Roby lived this year of JD Hunts Est. for $15.00for 1861

30 Snowed last night a little & to day snowed & Rained nearly all day in fact raining allthe time

31st Snowed in the night & snowing yet 9 or 10 Oclock Snow about 4 or 5 Inches Deep —

1866 Janry 1st cloudy & raining little Sent Henry to Yates ½ Bbl Corn for meal & claiborne to […] ½ Bbl Corn for meal 1 for Henry Brooks

2nd. Janry 1866. Went up Jerrys Sent waggon & little Henry Carried Mules & brot home 2 Horse waggon, with 6 sheep left 5 up there for Jerry brot home my waggon Gear Corn Shelter warping bars spools frames. side saddle of Sallers. 2 Grub Hoe 1 Pole axe, 1 oxe ring mended by abram 1 Clevice Do 1 pr stretchers some sweet Potatoes to eat. Prides waggon quilting frames & Basket & spools, 1 mole board new 1 Horse, 5 or 6 old no. 1 Plow P[o]ints to Plow this winter & my chop axe brot last Saturday, Rained all this evening

3rd Janry 1866. Halling wood & Cutting in new ground to day, has not rained any Snow smartly melted my wife Pride & Doran went to Jerrys to day & Susan Roarks. Peggy very sick & Rhoda with her

4th Very Cold all day fixing shelters at stable & Cow Rack for straw, Halled out straw & chaff & 2 Loads Pine Brush for shelters ¬–

5. I went to JD Hunts plantation & Mrs Colemans on business - our folks Cutting in new ground very cold to day & windy, ground hard frozen

6th. Cutting in new ground this day weather more moderate Old Peggy Died at Cedar Hill on the 4th day of this month & Buried at Mr Hunt Place, Mr. Edward Bybee had her Coffin made -

7th. I staid at home nannie went to Mrs Colemans & Pride & Doran with her Pride went to Edge Hill Very cold & windy in evening & cloudy

8th Janry. Very cold & windy (clear) Henry & claiborne burning Brush in new ground Little Henry Henry halling wood with Mules - to day

9th. Burning Brush & halling wood windy & cold

10th Finished Cutting fixing to mall & will begin to day in new to mall,

12th. moderate weather Halling rails to fence in Oats stacks balance malling I am going to Banks to day old plack[place] & home Susan Roarks etc went & fixed my business left my accts and Rects with Mr Banks accts to 9th april from last settlement & from april to 4 Janry 1866 to Settle

13Halled up leaves to day & malling in new ground we are going to meeting to day, went meeting

14 all of us went to meeting. Tax Saturday Redeeming the time because the days are evil, Sunday Create in me a right Spirit, 5 Chapter Ephesians 16 V & 51st Pslam[Psalm]10 Verse I think – Preached very well & the poeple attentive moderate weather

15. Sent Henry to Mill Yates Mill, Gathering up manure for Plant Beds. Cloudy Cold rainy & Hailing this morning very cold, - lent Jerry Bill Saturday & he is gone to Court. his Horse here

16th. cl[e]ared off this morning, Smart Hail very slippery Hail melting some, weather more moderate getting off sorghum seed for Cows to be ground getting some ps for Bars

17th. cloudy again our folks are malling in new ground

18th. Tolerable good day malling in new ground weather more moderate,

19 Malling, Ground Hominey & Chop for cows

20- Malling nannie went to Mr Lewis s Rained about 11 Oclock & wind blew hard Nannie Just got home before it

21. very cold day & clear windy

22nd tolerably good morning Sent little Henry to Mill ½ Bbl Corn for me & ½ Bbl Do for his daddy, & 1½ Bus. wheat for flour, & 2 Blocks or pieces for Step to meeting Edd Fitzgerald came here yesterday & Doran went with him home & Pride gone to Mrs Worsham
