17. gathering apples Halled furniture from Mr Hunts place, shrubing Halling wood
18 Halling wood Halled up our old Blade fodder & 1 stack Oats & 1 Load leaves Malled up some wood & I went to aspen Grove, cloudy nearly all Capt clements Daughter Buried here this evening
19th Raining this morning & very cold got out Peas firing Tobacco & making Baskets & Jobing about got our apples in Granary yesterday or day before Diging [H] in Barn to put up apples
20. Raining again putting up Irish Potatoes & apples to day in cellar & Barn. Sent to Mill this morning checking stables Let Buck Jerry Smith Lila Jordan & Lowry have Soles Buck & Lowry Caps firing Tobacco
21st stayed at home all day nannie went to Mrs Colemans, tolerable day
22. Began to sew wheat Digging Sweet Potatoes etc I went to see Edd — Mr Bybee has put up Sweet Potatoe seed & also the Estate of J D Hunt If they Keep I am to have seed from Mr Bybee We ran 3 Plows to day charley Plows well

12th. moderate weather Halling rails to fence in Oats stacks balance malling I am going to Banks to day old plack[place] & home Susan Roarks etc went & fixed my business left my accts and Rects with Mr Banks accts to 9th april from last settlement & from april to 4 Janry 1866 to Settle
13Halled up leaves to day & malling in new ground we are going to meeting to day, went meeting
14 all of us went to meeting. Tax Saturday Redeeming the time because the days are evil, Sunday Create in me a right Spirit, 5 Chapter Ephesians 16 V & 51st Pslam[Psalm]10 Verse I think – Preached very well & the poeple attentive moderate weather
15. Sent Henry to Mill Yates Mill, Gathering up manure for Plant Beds. Cloudy Cold rainy & Hailing this morning very cold, - lent Jerry Bill Saturday & he is gone to Court. his Horse here
16th. cl[e]ared off this morning, Smart Hail very slippery Hail melting some, weather more moderate getting off sorghum seed for Cows to be ground getting some ps for Bars
17th. cloudy again our folks are malling in new ground
18th. Tolerable good day malling in new ground weather more moderate,
19 Malling, Ground Hominey & Chop for cows
20- Malling nannie went to Mr Lewis s Rained about 11 Oclock & wind blew hard Nannie Just got home before it
21. very cold day & clear windy
22nd tolerably good morning Sent little Henry to Mill ½ Bbl Corn for me & ½ Bbl Do for his daddy, & 1½ Bus. wheat for flour, & 2 Blocks or pieces for Step to meeting Edd Fitzgerald came here yesterday & Doran went with him home & Pride gone to Mrs Worsham

1870 Feby 16th. Cleared off last night & tolerably clear this morning - Malling Edmond B Fitzgerald came here to board & Go to school the 14th Feby 1870.
17th Malling again to day, I went to Yates Mill to day Carried 5½ Bus. wheat for 1 Barrel flour for us, carried also 3 Bus Chop stuff for Cows brot home 1 Bbl flour for us chop stuff & Hhd road very bad, Cloudy all day, - weather moderate
18th Rained all day nearly Turned off very cold & windy stayed at home striping Tobacco
19 I went to Starkeys malling & burning Brush to day etc - Nat went home this evening
20th Commencing Snowing soon this morning snowing in evening hard stop snowing in the evening & turned Very Cold -
21st. Doing nothing to day very cold & did not melt scarcely any - clear to night Wind N W nearly all day Coldest weather We have had this winter Ic[e] a plenty, -
22nd Halled some dry wood to day weather more moderate, Halled up little stack Oats I bot of Sam Mattherly Corner of fence on Hill Halling wood this evening, Keatts & Sam steers & mules Halled Snowing at night
23 Snowed last night about 1 Inch deep my young had 7 pigs loss 2 of them in pasture Mr Wooding got his sows & Boar shoat I One of my shoats yesterday come up caught it & put it in pen with one in there, let Sam have 8 lbs Bacon for his & Ben striping Tobacco for me & meal for 2 weeks they have striped 8 days now
24 cutting some big Logs in new ground Swingling some flax this evening fixing wagg[on] on to go after oats I went to Jacobs to day

1870 May 2 Planted about ½ my Garden in Greens to day Planted some early York in there 3rd May Raining again this morning quite cool tobacco not in order to strip Keatts fixed plows made 2 Plow handles inpart Planked Cart Body Sam fencing in morning & in evening both halling rails Cart & waggon Still Cloudy & like for rain
4th Cleaned off new ground & halled 2 Loads Corded wood & then to Planting corn Bees swarm I went to shop 1 H Hoe Rod for Dutch Plow Pretty weather;
5 Plowing second years Land to day rained at 12 oclock Grubbing & shrubing in new ground
6 Rained in evening fencing cleaning up new ground little cloudy & like for rain
7 I went to meeting pretty day
8 I went to meeting Ed & Doron
9th Keatts Harrowing on Branch in Lot & has broke the Harrow twice & done but little he has got Bill to Harrow & Bed Lot Clabe ditched for me below lot & Charles Lovelace & I have made a bargain with Clabe to clean out the Ditch below my spring from lot fence down the branch to Mr Lewis LainLine from a certain deep place washed out in Ditch to Mr Lewis Lane I am to find him & give him 5¢ a yard from that up the way to Lot fence I am to find him & give him 8¢ a yd & Claborn has agreed to Hilled & have hilled my new ground @75¢ a thousand hills to be made good - he owes me 3/- now Sam is cutting in new ground Nat Raking & cleaning up this side of Ditch in new ground
10 sent after cotton seed to Yates Hired [?] Planted some Corn Peas, Snaps, simblings etc etc etc

Feby 6th Sam hauling wood in evening for himself & me some I expect
— 7th. Snow about 4 inches deep very cold tolerable clear & cold this morning
8th. Cutting in new ground all day & I went to Mr James Kelley - Nannie & Brot Joe with hercome home yesterday
9th Striping Tobacco in old prize Barn Millard W left & did know when to strip Richards Tobaccohe would return
10th. Hauled Straw this morning & 1 Stack fodder Cutting in new ground, to day & trying to finish snow nearly gone Did not get done Cutting in new ground I went to Mount Airy to day to get P. Pints
11th. I went to S S Meeting
12 Rained all night & Raining this morning
13. Cloudy this morning Cutting rail lumber On Out Side fence next to Mr Lewiss Martin Broke his axe to day Raining to night Joseph Richard son here Come home with Nannie last week I went to Mr Woodings to see Liza sick & then went to burning brush with Lewis
14th. We all Striped in old prize barn nearly done Striping all Sam has there Snow about 3 inches deep with hail Very Sloppy & disagreeable to day
15. Striped all we had in order & Went to Richards Barn & Striped a little thats Was down & in order = finished by 12 oclock 16th & then went to Cutting in new ground cleared off & weather moderate
17th Friday Nannie gone up John R Whiteheads Edd carried her Joe Our folks are Cutting Rail Timber in John's (field Rained & Hailed a little Dark night
18th Raining tremendous hard ever since about day Break this morning then cleared off
