and myself contracted for the carpenters work of our House he was not at home, but I found him at a sale at Mr Cotes, he recollectd some of the conversation but did not recollect the positive contract but said he would reflect upon & let me hear from him in a few days— I then come up to Republican to see Mr. Spencer Keeling who Mr Moon tried to get - to take the Job off his hands after so anxious to get it. Mr Keeling said very clear that Moon told him I was to give Him Moon one hundred & twenty five Dolls for doing any work == Travelled about 46 miles on this business Demarcas Lain also heard Moon say I was to give him $125.- for doing my carpenters work ————————

Nov. 21 Cutting down branch - Halling wood Shrubbing Corn Land & breaking flax — John J Lain making Gate this day to be put up at, - Spring began this day to Plow for corn,

27 Raised House beyond Hen House fix fences about House & Lot & making cow shelters - put up cherry to fatten, cutting on Branch corn & Turnip Patch — Novr 1845 dry & good weather,

7 Planted Sweet & Irish Potatoes & GardenPeas back of Garden -

15 Rained yesterday morning & last night a little, planted corn in garden Snaps Beets etc about 1st Apl Mouse & Pink had their calves about 12th Lilas Leg sealed about 8 Inst., — planted water melon seed in Sweet Potatoe Patch - 16 Fine Rain yesterday

16 Packing Tobacco, etc etc

17 Turned off cool & we commenced on yesterday 16 to plant corn in fresh ground & finished that pt this evening, -

18 Fair & cool 19. Cloudy & cool planting corn below barn in big field

19 Laying off corn ground & collering & Halling in new ground

20 Same work 21st began to Plant corn at 12 Oclock Finished breaking corn ground 20th - 22nd Planting corn in big field - Johns, - Tobacco plants small

23. Planting corn etc weather dry

24th Rained a little last night, nearly done planting Johns field - uncovered little plant Bed above House, -

25 fair day, cool weather Finished planting corn except flatLand 26 Beding flat ground & cleaning up on Branch, alse & Jane Hilling in new ground

1856 Novr 6th I went to Republican Grove, to See Mr Prindle, alse & Kitty grubbing Jerry went to Miss Sarah McCullocks Henry helping Mr. Wyatt Jacob & Balance pulling off corn by Bars

7th Moving & fixing Corn Jordan plowing Fed & Sandy Shoe Making, Halling up & shucking corn plowing up cotton Patch Henry & Mr. Wyatt finishing Tobacco Barn this evening - etc Picked out Cotton to day

8th Shucking & housing Corn Sewing wheat in Cotton Patch & by Lilas House etc Fed & Sandy Shoemaking Rainy a little Turned cool in evening etc etc

9th went to Fannies & she came here Jacob went to Riceville

10 Sent Henry to Mill 2½ B. W 4 Bus Corn & 1 Log for flooring for Porch Jordan & Lowry Plowing Fed & sandy Shoemaking Balance pulling off Corn fine day clear — fine weather

11th Sewing Wheat & getting up Corn

12th Sewing wheat & getting up Corn fine weather about this time

13th Sewing wheat putting up Greens & then for getting up Corn etc etc Finished sewing wheat sewed 32½ Bus. Henry gone to yates mill with Log for sheeti =ng 4 Bus Corn for meal 1 Bushel wheat F for fine weather = Halling corn this evening

14th Finished sewing wheat I went to Fannies sold Top to JD Hunt for $85 due now to be pd by or before X Halling up & shucking out corn fine weather. Henry Jointing shingles

1856 Decr 26th A Beautiful day fixed Ice house this morning - Jordan Sandy & abraham gone to Fannies to day clear fine morning

27th Going to Republican Grove to day etc

28 My wife went to Mrs Hunts a good day

29. I went to Mr Hunts to Divide Mrs Colemans negroes etc went to see Shanks Worsham very sick etc etc.

30th Began to work at 12 Oclock Henry at work on shelter etc Jordan & Lowry halling Out Straw & leaves Sandy gone to meeting House with Tar. Fed & balance cutting fixing at new ground to burn Plant Bed etc — etc

31st Burning Plant Bed at new ground this morning Henry fixing shelter for plows got cathed in Snow Just about night Finished burning Dug up prepared ½ of the Patch 14 by 20 yds long

Thursday 1st Jany 1857 Began to snow last evening this morning snow about 4 or 5 Inches Deep we are striping Tobacco Jacob went to Fannies yesterday, cloudy this morning

Jany 2. 3. 4 We have been striping tobacco all this week Yesterday we halled wood till 12 oclock worked Clemam & Fillmore to carriage, worked very well indeed yesterday very windy & cold This morning clear & cold not quite done striping new Barn Prise,- One Lamb come this week, Snow not gone yet. Calm to day

4th Lowry gone to Fannies with Arch this evening to be clothed Hat & Blanket for $45.00till x next Christmas

5th Sent to Mill 2 Bags Corn [water stain] got 2 Turns meal there sent Log for

1959 June 10th Plowing & working in corn, done Peas Greens etc weeding down some Tobacco Plowing or Harrowing Tobacco --

11 Finished Harrowing Tobacco in Lot weeding it down - Kate Came down & 12th married in morning Sunday & went on to meeting at Strait Stone, to Mr Jos M Moses - married by Mr Witherington

13th Fannie Kate & Mr Moses left this morning Mr Witherington stayed all night last night. clouday & like for Rain — Sent down to aspen Grove & got some cherries &Rasb etc —

14th weeding Down Tobacco in Lot. Plowing corn next to CaptWhiteheads- 15th Raining a little Halling stacks to worsham mill went to aspen Grove for wool Paid CaptL W Clement $2558 & some cents for his Land & we had a fair settlement & he is to make a Deed next Monday for the Land & give me a Plot —

16th Halling Logs again Sent 1 Turn corn for Chumbley this morning bot from Jas Shields & give him $12½ to be delrd here in my pasture as pr Rect - in a day or Two choping in our Corn etc etc I am going to aspen Grove & Republican to day Halled 6 Logs to day Card standing Turn to Mill & brot home 2 Turns meal for ourselves & 1 for Chumbly - etc etc

17 Fine Rain last night replanting Tobacco this morning - still cloudy I went to Aspen Grove & Republican etc etc

18 Halling Logs thinning corn etc Jas Shields Brot 5 Hogs home this morning bot of him clear pretty morning
