Small, Referred to a Special Comtee Yesler, Clancy & Latime Committees Reports From Gas Light Comtee recommending the awarding of the following Contracts, to wit: Washington Iron Works for Lamp posts, J. Schram & co for repairs etc Referred to Judiciary Comtee From Street Comtee on the matter of Improving foot of Marion Street making the recommendations that a box drain be ordered placed therein connecting with Opera House Sewer & that Seattle Lumber & Comcial co be allowed to fill said street with sawdust. Adopted From Special Comtee recommending that the Chief of Police be instructed to remove all Chinese habitations from Clay Street. Adopted From Finance Comtee recommending that the petition of the Herald Pub Co. for reconsidering the matter of awarding the contract for City printing to the Post Intelligencer, be laid on the table. Report accepted And now the Surveyor submits the Specifications for the proposed planking of Commercial, Mill & Front Streets under ordinance No. 595, after due examination & modifications, the same are approved. Ordered that the petition of Fred Gasch et al for a Sewer in Union Street be taken from the table & referred to the Surveyor Ordered that the Council stand now adjourned Attest: E.S. 784 JOURNAL OF THE PROCEEDINGS OF THE Apr 16 1886 The Claims of F A Minick for $88.83 for services is police officer is on motion rejected The claim of D H Webster for $10.50 for expenses killing and burying dogs is on motion rejected On motion the Street Committee isinstructed to examine Bismark Street and if in their opinion necessary and advisable to cause said street to be opened On motion City Clerk W R Forrest is granted thirty days leave of absence from May 1st On motion the Health Officer is instructed to examine the cesspools on the block between Marion and Madison Streets north of the Opera House and if found to be nuisance to notify the owners of the property to abate them, and if not abated to make report to the City Atty, who is directed to commence action against the parties, also the Health officer instructed take some action Union St. On motion the matter of Madison St extension is laid on the table until next meeting. City Attorney submits an ordinance concerning liquor licenses On motion the ordinance is referred to the Committee on licenses with instruction to report Firday April 23 On motion the ordinance relating to the collection of road poll taxes is laid on the table until Councilman T W Lake be present.

Granted Petition of Amos Brown for permisssion to move the building known as Melhorn's Block on Front Street t o the lot immediatly west of the Opera House on Front Street. Rejected. Petition of H M Peters for permission to erect a boot black stand on Columbia Street near Front Street Granted. Petition of R H Calligan et al to abolish Vehicle Licenses. referred to Judiciary Committee. Petition of Thomas T Minor et al asking that the alleys through Blocks 100 & 101 in Terry's Second Addition be vacated. Referred to Street committee. Petition of F H Osgood et al praying that the alleys running though Block 3 & 4 and that part of Fountain Street lying between said two (2) blocks and extending from Elaine Street to Lake Union in D T Denndy's Second Addition to North Seattle be vacated. 180 JOURNAL OF THE PROCEEDINGS OF THE Apr 15 1887 Which is adopted by the following vote viz: In favor of the same Furth, Green, Hinckley, Lake, Russell & Reitze. against none. An Ordinance is submitted by the Clerk entitled "A Special Ordinance appropriating money to pay audited bills" Which is passed by the following vote viz: In favor of the same Furth, Green, Hinckley, Lake, Russell & Reitze. against none. Miscellaneous On motion of Councilman Furth consideratin of the Ordinance in relation to organizing the Fire Department is continued until Tuesday evenins next at 7:20 o'clock PM On motion fo Councilman Lake the vote rejecting the petition fo Amos Brown for permission to move the Melhorn Block from its present location on the West Side of Front Street to the lot on the East side of Front Street immediatly north of the Opera House is reconsidered. On motion the petition is granted by the following vote: Ayes Furth, Green, Lake & Reitze. Noes Hinckley & Russell. On motion of Councilman Furth ordered that the rate of assessment in order to provide funds to pay for the construction of a sidewalk on the West Side of Front Street under Ordinance No 802 be and the same is hereby fixed at the rate of 19&1/2 mills on the dollar. On motion the Plats of Green's addition to the City of Seattle and Preston and Carr's addition to the City of Seattle are approved.
