1859 Janry 25th Sent Henry to Mill to Yates for Meal, from Aspen Grove Carried a log from here to be sawed into scantling 3 by 3 balance Cutting & Hewing Logs & malling wood, clem shrubing etc etc fine weather

26th have this morning to Send to Mill for Chumbly, ^{bad management to send to mill every day}Cutting & Hewing Sills for Negro House & Barn this day - weather moderate,-

27th Raining Took down Lugs here, & finished striping Tobacco,-

28th Overseer & 3 hands gone to aspen Grove to Strip Tobacco to day -. Carr^d 5 Bags & 1 Midling Pork,- - Raining this morning a little, Carr^d Rhodas shoes to mend,- & Milly Anns, striped down there 2 days

29th I come back in evening quite unwell

30. cloudy & like for Rain or Snow,

31st Sent Henry this morning with a little walnut Log 2 Bushels Corn to Worshams Mill for Plank & Meal, & get scantling bark edge etc Balance finishing Hewing Sills & Cutting wood & Halling

Feby 1st 2nd & 3rd Halling wood Rails & fencing out Side Fence next to Capt Whiteheads - This day Jacob is taking down his Good Tobacco & putting it in Hh^d for Lynchg I have been in house nearly all this week with bad cold & sick - -

4th Mr Chumbly Jacob & Claiborne fixing to prize Tobacco Henry halling wood balance cutting & Stacking wood on Road -- cloudy & cool

4 Jacob Packing down his Tobacco this morning. Cutting wood & Halling wood & Rails weather tolerable at this time,

10th March 1859 Malissa Cotton & wool to Spin yesterday – Cothran has Two Hh^ds of Lugs Prized setting up another Hh^d fixing grave yard. Sewing Oats down there Hester at work down there for a week past

11th Fencing fixing Bridge Cut little Ditch by Spring Sewed 6 Bushels Oats in Big Lot where we have some Corn, Plowed up overseers Irish Potatoe, Coltered his Garden Patch etc finished squaring Logs for Tobacco House Still fine weather Sewing down in big field on Road,- to day - Lila at work in the Garden etc. Planting Tomatoe Seed & Gourds on Road, Old shop place.

12th Rained Tremendous hard last night Halled Stack fodder, fencing Halling Rocks Rails & wood to day, fine morning finished Cross fence next to Cap^t Whiteheads. Jerry Fannie & all here to night —

13th We all went to meeting S. S. M House Fine day, in evening Bro Plunket Hunt & all stoped^{to Dinner} & then Fannie & Kate went over to Bro Hunts

14th Raining this morning & wes made Rope works Plowed some for Oats before it begun to Rain fenced Some shelled Corn, greased Bellows, Bridles & Waggon Gear Collars etc Jeremiah H Graves came down last Satur =day went to meeting Saturday & Sunday & to day about 12 Oclock he started back in mail Buggy with Mr Hurt driver, uncovered Turnip Patch this day, about night Rained very hard washed very much, still moderate weather

15. This morning ground very wet fencing some fixing office & Porch Halling wood etc etc.

24th March 1859 Our Friend & Bro John D Hunt Buried this evenining at 4 or 5 Oclock in evening, good many poeple -

25. went over to examine bro Hunts papers John Dew with me & Dan^l R. Hunt. Chumbly sick all day. Finished Sewing Oats & now Plowing for corn Jacob claiborne & Jerry Smith Cutting & malling wood & Rails - moderate weather

26 I went down to see Ja^s Shields about going to Lynch’g they have 5 prized Hh^ds at aspen Grove, 3 Lugs 2 seconds,- Lila sick & has been for about a week, moderate weather Jacob claiborne & Jerry Smith began this morning to cut down Pines down below Susan Roark Sallie Started to School went with Fannie yesterday, 25th March to Board at $4 pr month as long as she goes to school to Kate,

26th I went to aspen Grove, balance Plowing on far branch for corn -

27th I rode over to Bro Hunts place

28th Plowing on same branch 3 plows Mr Chumbly shoemaking for Sallie to day^{till evening}

30th Shrubing for corn Beding for D^o Cutting Post for yard, etc Sent this morning to Hodnetts Kelleys Shields & Whiteheads to see about my young Hogs but could hear a word from them all my young Hogs gone, & has been more or less for sometime

31st Plowing for Corn on Branch next to Cap^t Whiteheads balance stoping Gullies & washed places in Lot & Mr Chumbly worked on smoke house putting on weather boarding I went to Fannies & Mr Faris for her [illegible]

1959 June 10th Plowing & working in corn, done Peas Greens etc weeding down some Tobacco Plowing or Harrowing Tobacco --

11 Finished Harrowing Tobacco in Lot weeding it down - Kate Came down & 12th married in morning Sunday & went on to meeting at Strait Stone, to Mr Jo^s M Moses - married by Mr Witherington

13th Fannie Kate & Mr Moses left this morning Mr Witherington stayed all night last night. clouday & like for Rain — Sent down to aspen Grove & got some cherries &Rasb etc —

14th weeding Down Tobacco in Lot. Plowing corn next to Cap^tWhiteheads- 15th Raining a little Halling stacks to worsham mill went to aspen Grove for wool Paid Cap^tL W Clement $2558 & some cents for his Land & we had a fair settlement & he is to make a Deed next Monday for the Land & give me a Plot —

16th Halling Logs again Sent 1 Turn corn for Chumbley this morning bot from Ja^s Shields & give him $12½ to be delr^d here in my pasture as pr Rec^t - in a day or Two choping in our Corn etc etc I am going to aspen Grove & Republican to day Halled 6 Logs to day Car^d standing Turn to Mill & bro^t home 2 Turns meal for ourselves & 1 for Chumbly - etc etc

17 Fine Rain last night replanting Tobacco this morning - still cloudy I went to Aspen Grove & Republican etc etc

18 Halling Logs thinning corn etc Ja^s Shields Bro^t 5 Hogs home this morning bot of him clear pretty morning

1859 June 27th Finished Cutting Our wheat here by 12 Oclock then went to Plowing & Hilling up Fresh ground Tobacco, I went to mills worsham Jno Hagoods Hyram wyatts John Roland John Wilsons Avory Mustains & worshams mill

28th Plowing & Hilling up Fresh ground Tobacco washing wool, Nannie Mrs Hunt & Mrs Templeton went to Catalpha to day

29 Laying by Corn on far Branch next to Cap^t Whiteheads, Hilled up fresh ground Tobacco, Cutting Oats at Aspen Grove

30th Finished this morning Hilling up Fresh ground Tobacco Laying by Corn over on Branch Bob came ^^{this morning}little Henry Plowing Chumbly & Henry cutting Oats to day - very hot weather, Bob Plowed 1 day did

July 1st ^{work any in Oats nor wheat.—}I went to aspen Grove, Cothran gone to see his Brother sick. — at Marysville Cutting Oats down there,- warm weather we are Plowing in Corn Tobacco & Hilled up Our cotton etc etc - went to Hodnetts -

2nd Sent to mill this morning for ourselves & Chumbly & to bring home plank etc working Tobacco in Lot Laying by corn 3 stayed at home, I went to CH yesterday on business for JD Hunts Est-

4th Cutting Oats to day little Henry Plowing

5. & 6 Cutting Oats & finished Plowing Tobacco & Laying ^{Bob came again & worked the 6th}by corn Hilling up Tobacco

7th Bob came here this morning to work, I started to Lynchg, on business for Bro Hunts Est. 5. & got back the 6th at night Rained a little all the way the 6th Sallie went with me

8th Halling up wheat I went to Mrs Colemans Jnos place & aspen Grove Robin Sick sent for me etc.
