28. Sewing Oats 4 horses, cloudy & warm, took 1 House Tobacco down to day to prize, - , Halled up one stack Oats more to sew. -- Danl> Hunt got Doct White to cut his lip about 4 weeks ago last Monday

29 A Fine morning sewing Oats & Cleaning up new ground, last night about 10 Oclock Malissa bornMalissa's child being 10 she has had, lost 2 Nicy & Morris

30 Treading Oats this evening to seed. Sewed 30 Bushels, alse Raking new ground Fed gone to mill 10½ Bushels corn Planted Onions Beets & Salsify yesterday

31. Sewing Oats & cleaning up new ground

April 1 Sewing Oats & Cleaning up Do weather cool & clear - in evening Rained a little this morning —

2nd Clear & cool - 3. Clear & cool Sewing Oats Collering & Raking groundbig new plowed up Garden

4 Finished sewing Oats sewed upward of 40 Bushels this year Collering etc -Sewed flax seed to day

5 Plowing up Sweet Potatoe Patch & Plowing for corn & coltering.

6- Coltering & Plowing for corn

7. Finished Hilling little new ground

1849 aprl 20 Henry going to mill with a large Log for Palings & 10 Bushels corn for meal - Hilling & Coltering in new ground Lila breaking lot on Branch —— got the meal & no Paling. 2 Large Logs at Millers mill for Palings

21st Hilling new ground, Broke up Lot on Branch, Henry gone to Mrs Colemans to Plant Corn or lay off the ground The 19 or 20th Henry Jane & Alse was there helping to Plant Corn-- very cool indeed & looks like Winter weather very dry & some times windy -

22 Weather still cool tho moderated a little Flies are eating Tobacco plants. a little cloudy to day & last night

23. clear moderate weather dry & windy & a bad time on Stock, Buds all Killed & wheat & collard Plants Bit etc etc. Hilling & Coltering Henry gone to shop with Horses to shoe etc Written 3 letters 1 Colo Smith about by Lug Hhd Tobacco & the articles for Mrs. McCullocks family, one to Mr Bagby for one sack sate 10 lbs steel 1 Bale Cotton one letter to Danl for a Bonnet for Fanny White & sent ½ Doll. for Sally a pr of Bl[ac]k [no. ?] shoes — about 5 oclock

24 This morning Henry gone to Lynchg. started with Lugs Hhd, Hilling in big new ground began to Rain about 12 oclock this day In evening Alse shelling corn Jane spining. Lila Ann & Fed prizing Tobacco —

25 Rained moderately all night. monstrous good Rain weather moderate taking down all our good Tobacco this morning prizing & Packing in Hhd & Bulking good fine weather in deed very good — Raining nearly all day

1853 March 26th Capt Fitzgeralds practice with his overseers to If they Carry there themselves with horses & hand under him while he is overseer not to charge any thing but corn toll etc meal & meat,- that he finds

28th Went to Mr Jno D Hunts fine day —

29. Sewing Oats & fencing Corn field fence & finished, fencing at Lot - fixing for Lynchg. went to Mrs McCullocks her waggon goes too Sent Fed to Millers Mill 7½ Bushels corn Sent by Jacob to Mr J B Nowlin for 1 Bbl Plaster 2 or 300 lbs of Guano, 4 Bales Cotton 25 lbs Bro sugar - noC & 1 Do no 12 & a little runlet of whiskey to Mr Cobles for 20 yds Cotton cloth & ½ Bbl allum water - to Colo Smith to Sell my Tobacco & Mrs McCullocks

30st waggon gone to Lynchg this morning Fed Halling wood out of new ground balance Raking & fencing Jordan part of day plowing & Bushing in Oats Black cow with first Died calf

31. Raking & Halling wood Jordan Plowing for Oats at Mr Neals — Rolled Logs 2 heaps to day

April 2nd Waggon got back last night a little in the night while it was raining Heavy Thunder & hard Rain in 3 days, from Lynchg Card Lug Hhd & some Loose succor

6. Turkeys & 10 Doz Eggs & Jacob got cheated out of $1.50 in Selling Turkeys, & bot 1 pr Hams paid Henings for doing up Cates Bonnet last fall pRect & [ab ?] Bot of DR Hunt 3/9- we have been sewing Oats at Mr Neals, coltering in new ground burning Logs Heaps raking etc etc 16 Lambs to this day

3 Raining this morning sewed only 3 & 4 Bus at Mr Neals yet, ground too wet to finish Pied Had a cow calf Thursday 31st March & Dundenah Jerrys young cow with her first Calf Died on wednesday

1854 Decr 26th we went to Mrs Hunts to day Danl Hunt is up, Rained my wife did not get Home Lewis Yates & myself examined the Record of Church Book this evening for the year 1854 & find it Correct. weather quite moderate Bot Rose ofat Mr David Millers Sale & she has been on the left ever Since She came home, which I did not know gave $11- for her, she appears a little better now Same age of Netty, Hesters Colt both of which is by Harveys Horse Buldocus

27th 28. 29 Jacob very Sick at Mr Fitzgerald we are Halling wood Cutting etc took down middle barn Tobacco & put it in new Barn took down part of Owens Barn, Plowed some weather has been moderate

30 & 31 weather moderate, Jacob a little better Doct Thompson went to see him Twice

1855 Jany 1st Plowing & Halling wood & Cutting - 2nd Raised steer stable & heaved it down - 3 - 4 5-6 Cutting & Halling wood Mr H Arnold & 2 more workmen her[e] a little over 2 days this week., Cloudy & like for Rain, weather moderate

7th my wife & Jerry went to James M Fitz to see Jacob & I am nearly alone Sallie at home

8. All hands striping tobacco in new Barn Raining this morning, Turned little Cooler. One Young Lamb yesterday My Black Steer bot of Mr JD Hunt Died in the Christmas - -

9th striped Tobacco to day in new barn Hung up first killing Pork this morning

10 Halled up Owens Barn of Tobacco to new Barn, finished what was in there Halled from middle Barn, Halled Straw to day,- Sewed Cabbage Seed lettuce & mustard to day-,

1856 Jany 21 Have been to Sale at Fannies 15th there nearly all the week very disagreeable weather under foot tolerable over head till Saturday night it began to Snow again & Snowed all day Sunday & till in the night this is 3 weeks in succession it has snowed very deep Snows, this last one nearly as deep as any I went to meeting Saturday, — very disagreeable weather for Pigs Lambs & [e]very thing else,- we are doing but little to day Jacob is at Mr overbys & has been since the 5th Inst = lost some pigs chickens & Lambs

22nd Another very Cold day & we are doing little or nothing but feed & make fires, very Cold & wind high from N W. & cold enough to freeze any thing almost, lost 2 more pigs at House,- - Snow melts but little any where Chip Came this evening to start to Mr Overby & for Jacob to Come home but the weather is so disagreeable I would not let him go = 23rd weather moderate a little halled up some wood & halled one waggon Load of wood for Mr Neal 1 little Lamb living yet all my pigs Dead but 7 in the woods We have Fannies Blackey here trying to break her to the waggon & Henry Clay up there Since about 10 or 15 Jany Inst. This day I wrote to Emond D Johns some time before X & this day I wrote to Danl R Hunt Richd & John Graves Green city Va Ruckersville P.O 24th clear & cold Halled up a little wood worked Blackey & Pompey She done only tolerable one more Lamb Dead, we have put all our Pigs in a pen here at the house to try & save them, -

26 Halled wood for ourselves & Halled ½ day for Miss Neals, weather Cold & like for snow, Rough sure enough
