July 15 1895 Your Comittee on Streets to whom was referred a petition for the improvement of East Street respectfully submit the following report. Some twoyears ago the city Council ordered said street graded. Bids were called for and the contract let. The bonds were advertised but were not sold at the time the change was made in the charter in relation to such improvements. therefore the work had to be gone through with again. Another petition was circulated and signed by a majority on the street. A further delay was caused by the petition having had to be sent to Senator Squire at Washington D C twice, a mistake having been made by him the first time he signed it, hence a great amount of time was wasted and the petition did not reach your Hon body until after st-grade improvements had been suspended.
