1854 april 3rd Turning out Lug Hhd Morning clear cold weather

4th Plowing for corn at mountain field etc Coltering in new ground & Hilling — Expect to Start to Lynchg with Hhd Lugs tomorrow morning ———————— Hester had her second colt a she by Buldocus Harveys Horse on Monday night 3rd April 1854 which we Call Nette SileyNette Finished plowing at mountain field for corn Plowing th Sewed flax Patchin fresh ground finished there to day ^ Jacob P Graves went to mount airy this day to live with Adams & Mr Ward 11th made trip to Lynchg in 3½ days sold Lugs at 5.50 - weighed nearly 1100 neat finished Hilling little new ground & now Hilling the other new ground Plowing at Stony point for corn & Tobacco Henry Coltering & Harrowing in fresh ground for Corn I halled 1704 lbs from Lynchg for Messrs Adams & Ward @ 45¢ very cold this day - & dry Jacob went to live with Mr Thos T Adams At Mount Airy the 6th day of April 1854 engaged for 3 yrs from that time for the 1st Year $50 second $60 - 3rd $80 – Sewed flax about the 1st april 1854

15th Striping Tobacco in fresh ground barn

16 April 1854 It Rained hailed & Snowed & very cold & windy- wind from N E. Kitty Laid up & most all on the plantation have bad Colds & complaining, - have not planted any corn yet, Planted Sweet Potatoe Patch last Friday planted between 2 & 3 Bushels Tobacco plants some Killed & some about as Large as Dollars etc - sewed over mountain Bed last week —

17th Snowed all night & snowing yet, Snow 5 or 6 Inches Deep Cold yet - Winters morning, etc etc

1854 april 17th very disagreeable morning for Court, I cant go dreadfull night on stock of every description, etc etc Kitty rather better this morning tho sick yet

18. Still Cold Sent for Doct Thompson for Kitty he did not come yesterday Sent again this morning19th Snow on the ground yet. Heavy frost. Tobacco Plants nearly all Kill –

19th Heavy frost this morning — I did go to Court & Come back same day Carried Report of Commdr of Division of Jer. McCullock Est. by Patrick Grasty & Dickenson

20 went to Store to day to Adams & Ward Finished Coltering over new ground about finished breaking up corn ground listing ps this way in fresh ground for Corn will begin to Plant corn this evening at old House place at Stony point,

21nd Expect to uncover & Pick Plant Bed above House this mooring, then planting Corn again at stony pint etc Harrowing & listing in fresh ground

22. went to Meeting Mr Mason not there,fine weather etc Kitty better, not quite done planting corn at Stony pint

23 went to see Capt Gilbert & also to Mrs Hunts to day rained Coming home Fanny here & Mr Fitzgerald - fine weather

24 Finished planting at Stony pint & began in fresh field Jordan complaing to day tho Harrowing for

25 Jordan Sick this morning Planting corn in fresh field between the Ditches Fed gone to Mill 6 Bus. Corn for meal 2 Bushels wheat for me —

26 Lent Mr Crews Henry Clay to go to mill Planted Pepperin Plant Bed& watermellons in Potatoe Patch etc etc fine weather warm —

25th & sick yet Doct Thompson has been several times to see her — I went to Court last Tuesday We have nearly finished Our corn, & have been part of 2 days Halling Logs for ourselves & M Crews, Carried 2 Logs to Yates Saw Mill yesterday 1 for Railing & 1 for Sheeting We are Cutting Halling wood etc up to day We have finished fanning out Our wheat made 15 Bus. good & 25 Bushels screan 2¾ Bushels good & 1 Bushel Screan for Mr Jno D Hunt for toll Rained last night & Cloudy yet to day Mr Fitzgerald did not buy me a negro at the sale of my Fathers negroes in orange = 27th Halling Stocks to mill to day fixing up cow pen fence & shelters grubbing & Culling — clear & Cold this morning

Decr 8 Since the 27th novr we have been 10th Fanny Fitzgerald went home this day Kate went with herto Lynchg got our Salt Guano etc Cutting in new Ground to day & yesterday we are halling corn stalks & Cutting wood & burning Plant Bed in Slush fair & Cold this day Jacob P Graves quit Adams 6th Dec 1854, & Came home etc & our Contract at end

13th & 14 went up Mr Franklins Mrs Clements for Lucy Ann gone 2 days Halled wood & Cutting in new ground yesterday to day 14 Burning plant Bed above House etc etc Sewed Tobacco seed & lettuce only

18 Began to Plow for Corn, on Branch cleaning Killed balance of Our Hogs except oneout drains etc

23rd Jacob gone to Mr Fitzgeralds cold & Cloudy

24 Sunday Raining nearly all day

25 weather moderated cloudy & moderate.

1856 May 24th Millys Calf is a week or ten days old a Heifer we have Seven Lambs etc Jacob gone to Fannies to day - Election is over votes stand for Justices in this the 7th District Miles N Tucker 50 JWGraves 46. Saml T Miller 45. Thomas T Adams 38 & Doct John H Estes 32 votes for Sheriff in this Precinct Whitehead upwards of 60. Bennett about 13 for Commonwealth attorney Treadway Forest constable Jas P. Lewis overseer of the Poor for Comm. Yates 27 Tucker 18 Shelton Vincent 14 Shelton Saml T. 1.

25. Fair windy dry day Jordan Lowry & buck Sick Wed Corn yesterday Saturday by Johns’s spring Coltering before the Homes & Harrowing

26th Cutting off Second years ground Hills Henry Plowing in Corn – cool & windy Hester & Mr Faris Jack this day

27th Doct T. has been here 13 or 14 times to see Jordan Lowry & Buck Jordan particularly sick Weeding & Plowing Corn clear & windy my Bro Jonathon here at this time,- Tobacco Plants fine & beginning to dry a little —

28th Weeding & Plowing corn in Johns field

29th Plowing & weeding corn Planted Tobacco On Johns Branch yesterday morning as we had a late shower of Rain night before

30 went to Court House this day -

30 Made Sheep Pen Hilling Potatoe Patch working & Plowing corn etc very clear & dry & windy Sandy taken Sick yesterday

31 weeding & Plowing corn Sandy in House

June 1st Doct Thompson came to see the sick Jordan Lowry Sandy & abraham all sick Doct. Thompson has been here since 1st aprl about 14 or times I think Jordan bad off
