1850 August 24th Choping in new ground - Henry Plowing in big second yrs Land Tobacco
25th. Began to Rain last evening & last night it rainedtremen =dous Hard, all night ground very wet, —
26 Henry gone to mill 2 Bus wheat 1 Bbl Corn, Fed & 2 Horses at Mr Lewis Balance worming & choping newTobacco ground clear & little cool - wrote to Col Smith to get Harry to work for me
27 clear pretty day. worming succoring & toping new ground Tobacco, & big second yrs — Fed & my 2 Black [horses] went to Mr Lewis yesterday morning federick come back in evening & went this morning
28 Fed Still at Mr Lewis worming & succoringTobacco Toped all over yesterday & to day
29 getting up & Beeting apples this morning Fed Still at Mr Lewis s about wheat & my horses

Sept 1st Rained this evening warm
2. Rained very hard again last night Sent 1 Bbl Corn to Mr Peake by Mr Fitzgerald Toping worming & succoring Tobacco at new ground
3 Toping & succoring & worming Tobacco, -
4th. Sent waggon & Cart to saw mill & Grass mill ½ Bbl Corn for meal 1 Long Log for 1 Inch Plank & 1 for Hhd Staves cloudy & like for Rain
5. Sent ½ Bbl corn & got 1 Bbl meal & carried 2 more Logs 1 Long & 1 short [This?] one for squared edged the other for flooring — 10 Inches cloudy & like for Rain finish hilling up big Second years this & began to Pull fodder in fresh ground corn, succoring new ground
6th worming & succoring new ground
7th same work Pull off boards on mountain field Barn this day ——————
September 28, 1850 - October 23, 1850
1850 Sept 28th Sent Henry to saw & Grass Mill 2 Bus. Corn & 2 Logs one for square edge Plank the other for Gates into Laths clear fine day weather warm
29th went to Doct Chs E Millers Funeral at H Anderson Fine Day - good many poeple—
30th Halling up Tobacco from new ground to prize Barn had that full from new ground & over80 sticks
Oct 1st. Halling Tobacco from fresh ground to new Barn got that over half full first cutting worming & succoring over all we have stacked all our Blade fodder last night
2nd Firing Tobacco Halling Tops from fresh ground to feed on, worming & lot by new Barnsuccoring in Cutting Buckwheat to day - where we want our topsto stack
3 Finishing firing prize Barn & quit in new Barn. Clear & Cool this Day
4th Cutting over Tobacco again --
5 Halling Rails Poles & forks for Stack frame Stacked Buck wheat Diging Irish Potatoes etc etc etc
7&th8 Cutting Tobacco stacking Tops pulling late fodder, Halling up Tobacco etc
10th Card Cider to Mr Lewis s to Still Hanging Tobacco Tying fodder & Halling up Tobacco about this time finished Cutting Tobacco yesterday Clear & warm at this time
22nd Have been cutting Tobacco, been to Lynchg with a Load of wheat etc etc etc. Since the 10th its now clear & fine weather, went to Court stayed 2 days
23 Harry came Here monday morning & Fed went to Mr Hodnetts in his place -- getting plates Joist & Rafters for Henry’ House began to throw down Hills in big second yrs ground for wheat etc
October 23, 1850 - November 11, 1850
1850 Oct 23 Hanging Our last Tobacco John came this morning & I sent him to Mr Hodnetts to take Federicks place, — I am to give Lester Coleman $5. or $6. a monthfor John Mr Lewis taken sick the 17th of this month had 2 Docts Thompson & Walkup with him & lingered 10 days & Died with Gravel — On the 27th at one Oclock in night, he Died without moving his hand or foot —
28th Mr Lewis Buried this day a little after 12 oclock we are sewing wheat & Harry is at work on Henrys House & overseers —Henry is Halling wood, weather clear & cool we have gathered about 20 Bbls corn Out of fresh field —————
29. Sewing wheat, fixing to raise Houses for & Henryoverseer
30. Sewing wheat & finished fresh ground Sewed 7½ Bus there this morning Raised Houses & sewing wheat choping around stumps
31. Digging Sweet Potatoes at work on Houses Beautiful Weather about this time —
Novr 6th Harry still here Fed shoemaking 3 Plows Sewing wheat, alse & chaps choping down corn in Tobacco Lot by Top stack to sew, wheat there weather fair & mild Henry gone to Mrs Colemans to Help raise corn house
=7th novr. Sent Henry to mill this morning 4 Bus. corn, & get my own sheeting Plank there & also wrote an order for $1.50 worth cheap sheeting Plank. Fed shoemaking, 3 Plows Sewing wheat alse getting out Buck wheat Harry laying upper floor for overseers House cloudy & like for Rain this morning
11. John Coleman worked at Colo. Smiths 2 weeks & 4th days & 2 days for me making 3 weeks in all, Fed shoemaking been sawing shingle Blocks to day Lila & Jane spining. alse raking leaves etc etc.

1852 May 7th let Mrs Neal & Wm Burnett have collared plants, Finished coltering over new ground once & began to crop a little Henrys arm sore

20th Plowed Lot for Tobacco yesterday, planted yesterday about 8 or 10.000 Tobacco Hills some in new ground & some in fresh ground Replanting corn to day planted corn & Peas in Cotton Patch, Henry Harrow Corn on Branch, Lila yet in House - clear & dry
22 Jordan Plowing in Corn mext to orchard Henry Coltering in new ground balance Hilling in new ground
23. Two or Three fine showers of Rain to day
24 Planting Tobacco this morning in Second yrs ground, & new ground - warm fine weather
25 Finished freshed ground except little part thats new ground cleared off & Hot Planting this evening all the Hills that made in new ground, Henry coltering Harry Set up on Hhd to day for 37½ [?] the staves being Jointed - & is to set up one more at that price & one more staves to Joint for 3 [?]etc
29th A little shower of Rain yesterday, we have finished Hilling & Planting our new ground yesterday Plowed 2 or 3 days in our corn Began to weed corn on Branch this morning cloudy & like for rain, worked out Sweet & Irish Potatoe seed.

12th Stayed at Home to day Kate Fannie & Sallie here
13th Malling & Cutting to day —
14 Plowing Cutting & malling etc - Jacob came here last night Raining in evening Pal came after Nails etc - Rained all night
15 Fixing stable shelling corn awhile worked some in shop & then mauling clem spining all day — cloudy & like for Rain
16 I went to Plantation settled with Cothran & there is down there 40½ Bushels & 2½ Bushels Sent Martha Neal to be returned shortly making 43 Bushels I owe him for his finding 13 Bus. Corn & I agreed to let him have 2½ Bushels of wheat instead of Corn then I owe him 10½ Bus Corn & Sowed there last fall 31 Bushels The negroes there now is to have 2 Turns of wheat & 1 Corn till they use 10 Bushels then there will be 30½ Bushels there april 20 I told overseer to let negroes eat 20 Bus. more 2 Young Lambs there to day — Sent Henry to Capt Gilberts to day with BagCotton to Pick 50 lbs did not get it Mauling here next to Capt whiteheads
17 went to MrsHunts Place after Tables she gave my wife & Sallie & Trough then he went to Halling wood till night. Balance Piling wood next to Capt whiteheads & finished mauling there about 12 Oclock stoped Gullies in evening like for Rain
18th Raining this morning Sent Harry & Jer. Smith to Mill 1 Turn Corn & 1 Turn wheat & to bring back Turn corn there clem spining, balance making brooms etc this morning, cloudy & like for rain not very cold - roads very bad
