1850 Jany 4th & 5th cutting big growth in new ground went to Mrs Coleman Grastys & McCullocks cold weather - 6th. cloudy & like for snow

7th cloudy & Raining this morning. striping Tobacco in middle barn to day -

12th Striped Tobaccofrom 7th to 12th cutt etc———in prize Barn &

12th Cutting Big growth Henry gone to mill Card 1 Large Log for flooring Plank 5 Bus corn

13th cloudy & like for snow, cold

14. Snowed last night very bad night snow about 2 Inches Deep still cloudy Striping Tobacco in prize barn

15. Finished striping prize Barn this morning my wife & F W. gone to Mrs Hunts clear & cool to day — snow not melted much

16 cutting Big growth in new ground began to Rain in evening

17. striping Tobacco in new Barn

18. striping in Do Do took all the lugs down in middle barn, cloudy & raining littlea

19 Halled leaves & straw & shucks

20. Rained in evening & I stayed all night at Bro Stonestarted to Court

21 Rained all night & till nearly 11 Oclock went to Court House & got home that night Finished striping in mountain field barn & then striped in new barn at home.

22nd cutting in new ground, Henry gone to mill 1 Bbl corn & 2 Logs - for Hhd Staves

23 Cutting in new ground all day —

24 Henry prizing Lugs Balance cutting cloudy & like for Rain —— Warm

25. trying to Finish Lug Hhd to day prize all Lugs from mountain field barn prize barn & prizing them in middle barn

1850 Feby 14th Rained very hard last night Finished striping new Barn at 12 oclock Sent yesterday to mill another large Log to mill & 10 Bushels corn & brot home the flooring Plank of large log Sent in Janry. the Large one sent yesterday to be sawed into weather boarding. cloudy & cool —

15 Halled wood for D Neal & malling Broke & swingling flax about this time

16 Malling & Halling Rails around Corn field fence next to Mr. Lewis s. clear & windy - cool

17 A pretty day clear & moderate

18th went to Court bot a Bay mare for Mrs McCullock of Thos Walton at 12 months Credit from this day - for $60. I am security for the same, - malling & Piling Rails in new ground. finished swingling flaxthis day

19 Malling & Piling Rails till evening then Loaded waggon for Lynchg etc

20 Fencing corn fielding [rep?ing] etc started to Lynchg this morning a fine day & good roads, several of our family complaining - malling & Piling Rails

21 & 22 ½ of the day rained & snowed 22nd & cleared off about 10, or 11 Oclock –

22 pretty good day over head roads verymuddy

23 We returned from Lynchg about night sold our Lug Hhd for $5 - Malling & Piling rails & found them all well

24 cloudy & like for snow my wife gone to Mrs Hunts -

25. Malling & cutting old trees

26. 27 & 28. Finished malling & began to Break up Corn ground in Johns field

March 1st Rolled Logs did not get done

2 Plowing Halling wood fixing Plant Bed on Johns Branch — shrubing corn Land & cleaning up newground weathermoderate to day yesterday very windy sent to Mrs McCullocks last Tuesday to Roll Logs Halled up stack Oats —————

3 went to Mrs Smiths moderate day —

4 Sett all our log heaps afire fine time Broke Logan to Plow this day - lent Mrs Coleman Waxy last Sunday to go to Lynchg Plowing Tobacco Land yesterday & to day,-

5. Plowing for Irish Potatoes & Tobacco Halling wood mending up Log Heaps etc

6 Finished striping Tobacco this day & in evening Rained very hard ——

7 Rolled Logs all Day nearly halled all Tobacco new ground Barn this morning Lila Plowing - windy day moderate Planted Irishes Potatoes 2 or 3 days ago

8 Finished Rolling this morning Halling up Oats malling & Plowing. waxing to day & taken sick & give him meeks[?] vomiter weather moderate

9 Plowing Halling Oats Sewed Plant Bed On Branch this morning —

10 A fine day for meeting

11 Treading out Oats quite cool Finishing corn field fence cleaning up on Branch Johns field —

12 At work at new ground burning log Heaps etc Plowing

1850 March 22nd cloudy & like for Rain

-23rd coltering in new ground & cleaning up began to take down Tobacco in new Barn but broke off so cold Hung it up again prizing out of prize Barn Hhd nearly full — Turned out Hhd Lugs a few days ago —

24 clear & cold cloudy in evening

25 Coltering cleaning up David neal Riving Boards Sewing oats etc -

26 Raking coltering & Plowing — Loaded waggon for Lynchg this evening —

27 Starting to Lynchg & RobtMcCullock failed to meet my waggon at Capt Clements & I went on myself Logan Pulled elegant commenced snowing & Hailing & continued all day & that night we got to Lynchg

28 snow about 5 Inches Deep went on & got to Lynchg that night

29 Sold Lugs for 6.60 & Returned back to Lynches that night

30 got Home soon in evening they have been fencing & at work in new ground all they could

31 Snow all gone & a fine family all stayed at home day my

Aprl 1st 1st Holliday my wife went to Mrs McCullocks, Mrs Hunt & family had pretty weather —

2nd Crossing in first ½ year new ground & expectto dayto begin to Hill Plowing for corn

3 Rained nearly all day Hard have not begun to Hall yet Sent Jordan to mill got very wet. shelled corn cleaned out stables in part Fed made Catharine S shoes, prizing Tobacco —

4 cleared off last night forkin[g] up manure this morning Turned out Hhd good tobacco. Halling Rails & wood to day, Jordan to mill my wife gone to Mrs Colemans very windy to day I went to Mrs McCullocks

1850 April 5th Crossing in new ground to day Plowing for corn began to Hill cloudy & like for falling weather

6 Rained stop us yesterday morning & it Rained hard all day nearly. shoemaking for F.W. & mending making Basket spining & shelling corn quite cool Raining again this morning & same sortwork as yesterday

7th My wife & myself went to Mrs Hunts & Mrs Colemans Tolerable good day quite cool

8th Fencing this morning Picking PotatoesSweet Sent Henry to mill 10 Bus. corn & about 2 Bushels wheat & to bring back Our Plank Wrote to Mrs Mary P McCullock sent letter by him

9th Planted Sweet Potatoes on Hill yesterday also snaps & corn. Plowing for corn coltering in new ground, Fencing in morning Coltering & Plowing this morning — scattering Plaster on clover lot by Lilas House, put on some in march & balance now Expect to Hill to day in new ground Put Plaster on Plant Beds to day —

10. Began to Rain last evening Have not done much for a 2 weeks snow & Rain Keeps the ground so wet, Halling Rails & fencing to day some spining —

11th cloudy & like for Rain cutting up on the Path for fire wood Henry halling wood alse Picking leaves off Plant Beds at new ground I went to Mrs McCullocks yesterday

12th & 13. Coltering Hilling Plowing for corn

15. went to Court. Coltering Hilling & Plowing for corn began to lay off a little first way to Plant corn.
