1855 april 20th wind Blew tremendous hard great damage done by fire up at Pattersons & down about S. T Millers & McHaneys, we are planting Corn on hill next to Orchard, etc –

21st Planted our flat Land Corn to day & the fresh ground next to orchard fine day a little Cooler Nannie to Mrs Huntsgone Broke Fillmore in seeding Oats to Plow Last wednesday Mr Tucker altered our shoats about 20 in number

22nd Sunday School Commenced fine day

23. Planting Corn left side of Path by middle Barn & Planted Corn field Snaps as follows white Short on Branch Rice Beans fresh ground next to orchard a few speckled this side of branch beyond clems House,Some come from Mrs Hunts in bottom tho other side of middle barn & by Barn & bars, & the old Turnip Patch place planted speckled Sort; fine weather quite dry ¬–

24. Expect to get done to day by clems House & fresh ground, Snaps of the Speckled sort in fresh ground; Finished Planting Corn to day –

25. Halling out manure, finished Hilling up new ground collering up fresh ground & hilling at mountain Layed off Mr Neals Corn ground yesterday & Bedded Pumpkin & Potatoe Patch etc went to Mrs Glasses sale

26 Halling out manure shelling Corn Sent Jordan to mill in evening 8½ Bushels Corn for meal quite cool this morning Hester & Mr. Faris’s Jack this day

3 May 1856 Sent to Mill 3 Turns Corn for meal Henry Halling wood & halling out manure Hilling in new ground, Lowry very sick

3rd Clem & Pal & Fanny & Jerry Smith getting better Fine weather for every thing – — Sent Sallie to Mr Moseley - got an answer from Post Master in Georgia about ED Johns Teller for money Sent him, but no Recd yet Last 3 or 4 shoats from spaying & another Black Sow missing 2 days may be she is Dead Too, – – – – – Doct Thompson came again to see Lowry very sick making 9 or 10 times in all this time or spring

4 My wife & Jerry went to Mr Jno Hunts Jacob went to Greenfield Rained a little

5. Planted Cotton Irish Potatoes etc & then halled Out manure Doct Thompson came this morning - to see Lowry - who is getting better Striped Tobacco in morning

6th Raining this morning striping Tobacco from middle Barn – – –

7th Rained last night Striping Tobacco this morning Turned Steers & Fillmore in Pasture Fed making Jacob a pair of shoes Jordan Complaining balance getting better

8th Finished striping old prize House & done Striping all but House back of Garden & fresh ground barn & mountain Spring Barn - quite Cool Halling Out manure Hilling & want to plant cabbage plants this evening or tomorrow

9th Halled out manure halled wood & Hilled in new ground, changeable weath I went to Miss S. McCullocks & Mr Faris but done nothing

10 Will Finish Halling new ground this evening & then will Plant Collard Plants in Garden

1856 May 10th Planted Pumpkins Seed on Branch & Potatoes this week, Henry gone to Mill 6 Bushels Corn 5 Bushels wheat, & will bring 3 Turns 6 Bus from Mill of meal Very Cool & windy flies eating Tobacco plants very I Planted 21 Hills this morning Sent Mrs Coleman My Buggy umbrella etc to go to Colo Colemans — My wife & Jacob gone to Fannys to day

11th We have 7 Lambs living 3 young ones Another cool Windy day for the time of the year Picked Plant Bed above house yesterday Fannies Black Mare took Mr Farris s Jack On saturday 10th May 1856 Card by Mr Barber

12th We have another Cool morning drying weather — Doct Thompson come down this morning to see Boil Clem's

13th Halling Out manure Picking Plant Beds in slash this morning & manuring them & then replanting Corn –

14th Replanting Corn in Johns s field Henry & Jordan Halling Out manure & expect to finish on Lot to day Began to Harrow Corn this day on Johns s Branch, Fannie here Since Sunday all the sick here seems to be getting better Lowry sitting up right Smart etc etc

15 Halled up 2 stacks fodder & 1 stack Oats & had to Lay off fresh ground at stony pint & Plant Corn over hogs rooted up Hill nearly F went home this morning Hilling at stony pint [water stain] Harrowing corn on Johns Branch

Saml T Miller 45. Thomas T Adams 38 & Doct John H Estes 32 votes for Sheriff in this Precinct Whitehead upwards of 60. Bennett about 13 for Commonwealth attorney Treadway Forest constable Jas P. Lewis overseer of the Poor for Comm. Yates 27 Tucker 18 Shelton Vincent 14 Shelton Saml T. 1.

25. Fair windy dry day Jordan Lowry & buck Sick Wed Corn yesterday Saturday by Johns’s spring Coltering before the Homes & Harrowing

26th Cutting off Second years ground Hills Henry Plowing in Corn – cool & windy Hester & Mr Faris Jack this day

27th Doct T. has been here 13 or 14 times to see Jordan Lowry & Buck Jordan particularly sick Weeding & Plowing Corn clear & windy my Bro Jonathon here at this time,- Tobacco Plants fine & beginning to dry a little —

28th Weeding & Plowing corn in Johns field

29th Plowing & weeding corn Planted Tobacco On Johns Branch yesterday morning as we had a late shower of Rain night before

30 went to Court House this day -

30 Made Sheep Pen Hilling Potatoe Patch working & Plowing corn etc very clear & dry & windy Sandy taken Sick yesterday

31 weeding & Plowing corn Sandy in House

June 1st Doct Thompson came to see the sick Jordan Lowry Sandy & abraham all sick Doct. Thompson has been here since 1st aprl about 14 or times I think Jordan bad off

1857 June 2nd Nannie & me went to Fannies & carried her Buggy home I take 1 Sette 1 Harness @$15Our folks thining corn & Plowing & weeding at stoney pint,- fine weather at this time —

3rd. Replanting corn at mountain field. & weeding corn to day Carried all our Tobacco off This day - cool weather this morning

4th June, Plowed Tobacco Lot & scattered manure Plowing & weeding corn etc,- picking Plant Beds about this time,

5 June. Plowing & weeding corn, this day I went to Pittsya Court House

6th Plowing & weeding corn this day - Sent Mrs Hunt 5 or 600 collard Plants& some Potatos to Plant lent Miss Neals a Horse to Plow ½ day today

7 went to sunday school & we all went to Mrs Hunts pretty weather

8th Hester & Mr Fariss Jack this day. Plowing & weeding corn in field fresh Claiborne at stoney pint Plowing wrote to Doct White to go & see Fannies Jerry & Sent Letter to his Mill,-

9th Mrs Hunt Owes me for 1 Bottle Perry davis’s Pain Killer sent by Jerry, weeding & Plowing Corn in fresh field to day 10 Fine Rain yesterday & we planted some Tobacco in fresh ground & this morning we finished there & drawing plants & going on to new ground,- Planted my wifes Patch at Cow Pen this morning nearly finished planting new ground,-

11th another fine rain yesterday evening Picked & manured our Plant Beds
