1857 June 26th Began to weed Tobacco in fresh ground on Johns Branch, Laying by Corn at mountain Spring Barn alse & Jerry Smith choping in core & Peas. Halled up Stack Blade Fodder this morning Rose & Mr Faris’s Jack this day Hester Refused very warm day Wrote to Jacob P Graves Wm. A Miller Miller & One to Lovelace & Mott Choped out new ground Tobacco & Plowing corn Laying by etc choping in Owens clearing to day —

27th Finished choping out new ground & choping in Corn owens clearing

28th went to Sunday School Fannie Kate & all here —

29th Fine Rain last night replanting Lot & new ground to day Sent to Mr Millers Plantation to day to& did not quite replant get some Plantsbut got none Wrote to Mr Wm. A Miller to pay Mr Charles L Cocke Hollin Institute $51.36 includingthat being the amt I owe there including Doct Lemons medical Bill for Kate Replanted new ground & nearly finished

30th Let Mr Crews have Henry clay to day to Plow cutting wheat. Sent Robin to be shod Fed & clem in Tobacco fresh ground next tocrews Abram Crews cut wheat this day Henry sick & sent for Doct Thompson, clem weeding Tobacco next to Crews

1859 June 20th Jack & Jinny Halling Logs & Rocks to day & 18 June My Jenny & Mr Faris Jack Replanting Tobacco etc etc — — I went to Court Sallie Came from Fannies

21st working in Tobacco & Corn to day

22nd began to Cut wheat Raining allmost every day Nanny & me went to Aspen Grove etc etc Colo Parker Came to Survey Jno D Hunts Land sold Kelley & worsham

23rd Cutting wheat & finished Lot this evening & fresh ps lower end of field Finished Surveying Land about 10 Oclock, Barksdale Came here, my Hog Came Home thats been missing so Long, lame in one Leg -

24th Settled with worhsam & Bybee Mr Wm L Pannill helped Settle Bybee Halling up Post for yard Mrs Hunts Bob Worked here yesterday plowing Halling Logs to Mill Halling home timber, Hewing Logs for stable I am going to Mrs Colemans to day - I shall Give Mr Shields $1 more for his 5 Hogs as I think they are worth it making $15 for the 5 $3 a ps Rained Tremendous hard nearly all night, very wet time now,.

25 Halling Logs to mill & Halling home Timbers from worsham, Clem spining Balance Cutting & Hewing Logs for Stable done Long Ones, 12 Oclock went to Plowing & Halling up Second yrs Land Tobacco Bob has only worked here one day to day I went to worshams mill Jas Harris Sarah McCullocks & aspen Grove etc, = yesterday we all went to Mrs Colemans

26th Stayed at home & rested this day being Sunday

1859 Augt 9th I am going to the CH to day to see about Mrs Stones business as Commr Agreed with Cothran for another year as overseer —dry weather yet Mr Waldron brot another Load Shingles 1977 hundred above like the others I got of him @$3½ pr Thousand. dry weather yet

10. 10th Raised The Top of our Barn to day Mr Cothran Jordan Sandy & Lowry Came up to help us got it done & they went home little after 12 Oclock I went to Edge Hill to meeting — dry here yet tho fine Rains not far off

11th I stayed at settling with Mr Faris Whitehead wrote Several letters etc one to Bro. Jno & Jonathan Duffy & Henry Wingfield, Mr Chummy & Henry & claiborne at work on Barn, balance Cutting clem spining & drying fruit

12th Same work to day I am going to aspen Grove this evening & James Shields

13the went to meeting to day Mrs Hunt Came back here dry & Hot yet 14th went to meeting

15th went to Court. Balance claiborne little Henry & Jim gone to Fannies to thrash wheat Halled 2 Logs to Mill & Halled plank from mill wormed & Succored & toped Tobacco got done a little after 12 oclock round ing & Jointing shingles in evening I Bob Worked here this day —

16th Mr chumbly Hunting Corn wheat or something to Eat. Henry Rounding shingles Bob Here again this morning —

11th May 1860 We cut Spayed & marked at aspen Grove yesterday & day before, my old Bull & 1 Calf. Mr Roach Cut Tom mule Cothran spayed 4 shoats & cut 1 Boar Marked all, Cut & marked Mr Bybee altered calf for me 8 Rams lambs Ewe Lambs

12. 7 not Cut,- cloudy damp weather Mrs Hunt Jaw hurts very much

12th Mrs Hunt did not rest well last night Weeding & Plowing Corn in fresh ground Sent Bob for Doct Thompson to see Mrs Hunt he came. - We Planted a little Tobacco last Thursday I went to meeting yesterday SS. Not many person about 5 or 6 members.

13th Mrs Hunt still very much compla[in]ing

14th Coltering in new ground & replanting Corn next to Capt Whiteheads, Nannie & myself went over to Mrs Hunts place & arrange for the sale of his property in the House

15th scattering Manure Plowing lot Replanting Corn, & Hilling in new ground Mr. Faris came here to do some little work yesterday Monday a little before 12 Oclock. & this morning Tuesday he is at work @ $1½ pr day sold 2 Hdds Tobacco sold by Clark & []

19th June, 186. Put my Jenny about 2 weeks ago to Fariss Jack - Halled up stack Oats & 1 Fodder or broke the fodder stack moved into Dining Room to eat to night, Salley gone to CH Plowed Peach Orchard Corn & sweet Potatoes weeding down new ground Tobacco Send claiborne down to aspen Grove for scythe & Cradle, my old sow has five pigs - clear pretty day

20th Finished weeding down Tobacco, Laying by corn next to Capt Whiteheads, put stack Fodder in stable Loft this morning Mrs Hunts returned from CH to day with Sallie & Allice, fair weather I went to aspen Grove found them cutting wheat 5 of sheep & Lambs Dead there Fair weather

21st Bob here this morning fixing scythes & going to begin to Cut wheat in Lot sent Charles to Post office,-

22nd I went to see Mr Chumney yesterday, Rained in evening & stoped us from cutting wheat to day choped out Peach Orchard Corn, & worked Garden Plowing corn next to Whiteheads Cut some wheat all thats ripe clear & very cool of nights at this time

23rd Choping & Plowing corn next to Capt Whiteheads very cool & clear this morning Bob been here since wednesday —

24 I went to Prayer meeting & then to Capt Gilberts to see the old Poeple

25th Finished cutting wheat to day here fixing spring making fence & Plowing & choping in corn next to whiteheads - I bot Fannies mare Fleetfoot If she is sound when I see her at my Plantation at $50.
