1853 Novr 9th wrote to Bro. James, cleared off cold Fed shoemaking Fed fanning out wheat.

Novr 12 cloudy & like for Rain Sewing wheat in Johns field, sent Mr Evans meal home alse & malissa shrubing at mountain field, Fed shoemaking

17. jerry Stoped going toSchool after 1st week in Novr Finished shoemaking to day - 14th 15th & 16th Halling up Corn & Halling Out manure on wheat in Johns field,- Fallowed up & sewed Rye in Granary Lot & finished this evening Jordan Helping Mr Evans Ditch from 12 Oclock to day tomorrow expect to Plow up ps above Henrys house & sew it in wheat

19th Jordan has worked with Mr Evans days this week - to day we halled wood put in our Land Corn sewed wheat by Henrys House & I went to Vaughans for Lucy Ann in her case agst Richard Smith

21st I went to Court as a Juror & for Mr & Mrs McCullocks Estates stayed till Friday night Our Folks got wood cut & Grubed in new ground all this week Kate & Jacob went to to Mrs Thompsons to wedding

Decr 1st We Finished Our Corn to day I appraised Mr & Mrs McCullocks Est. Henry Halled Rocks for his Chimney Some cut & some Grubed etc

2nd Henry Halling up Stalks etc Jordan & Sandy Plowing up Cotton Patch for wheat Fed Fanning out our wheat. malissa Picked Cotton out of Patch On Monday 28th we Killed 12 of our Hogs weighing 1077 - 3rd made shelters -

3rd Sewed Cotton Patch in wheat, 1 Bus. to sew sewed some in Johnsons field. Henry went to Farris’s Mill, 5. Bus. wheat for flour, 3 Bus screan for Horses & 7 Bushels Corn for meal.

1859 Feby 15th Chumbly fixing his House floor Tight Henry halling Rails clem shrubing Balance cutting Logs for stable etc etc Still cloudy & like for Rain

16th Henry claibourne & little Henry went to aspen Grove to strip Tobacco,- I went to mount airy & then down there,- Chumbly & the Balance skinning Slab Timber & he riving, & Covering House & cleaning out old shop etc to burn - when we get out of wood, etc

17th Henry claiborne & Henry came ^home this morning brot from aspen Grove ^ brot^ Our Carriage, Chumbly triming Orchard in Corn field filling up Gullies clem & Jerry Smith Grubing Claiborne & little Henry plowing, Henry gone to Thos Hodnetts to help him Roll Logs - went between 9 & 10 Oclock - - - -

18th Raining again, Piling & counted shingles from Robt Walker & then they all but Jerry Smith went down to aspen Grove to strip Tobacco Striping back of Garden; Raining nearly all day, very wet time it has Rained nearly every day this week Some, warm for the time of year & has been all this week

19 I went to Mr Vaughans claiborne & little Henry at aspen Grove Striping Tobacco Henry & Mr. Chumbly gone to Mr Kelleys to Roll Logs, - cloudy & Raining a little all day, Sorter drizling -

20th Still cloudy & warm,

21st I went to Court yesterday to Day Returned Halling Rails fencing etc - Halling wood

1860 Augt 12th We all went to meeting

13. Striping Tobacco Doct A W Thompson came again yesterday to old place & Bybees, he has been to Bybees 2 times stayed all night there last night Emma getting Better, a little. Joseph Bybee bad off Doct Thompson Came here yesterday I got him to look at Lila &[her? pr?] got some Brandy etc to carry over there Rained nearly all day & night last night

14 Toping worming & succoring Tobacco to day Bybee sent Ben for the Doct last night for his Son Joseph who is bad off Nannie Mrs Hunt Sallie Alice & Doran gone to Mrs Colemans – to day —

15th Very Cool indeed for August Mr Wright here at work Mr Shields 2 sons David & Wm here helping us beet apples - Dr Thompson come back again to Jos Bybee sent for again

16th Mr Wright here again to day & David Shields yesterday & to day & Wm Shields ½ day stoped, Bob come here this morning Cool day for august. fixing to raise Barn, Beeting apples etc put Post for yd in ground this morning & burnt them,- Jerry had Charly Shod at Vaughans yesterday, White Back Cow had a calf 13th or 14th this month, Mr Wright stayed till about 3 oclock, making 1 day & 3 Hours. David Shields stayed beeting apples 2 Days Wm stayed a little over ½ day Finished apples up & Laid foundation for Barn

17. Raised my Barn this day had Mr Cothran & 4 hands from aspen Grove 1 from Mr Kelleys & 2 from Mr Hunts place, -

14th Went to Meeting pretty day Mr H went Mr Moses & Kate Came here last night, -

15th working on Road to day & Hilling I went to court Rained before got back

16th Raining this morning, cutting wood in woods after morning, dont rain much Cut down Pines in evening to stop Gulleys

17th ground too wet to do any thing with Cutting down Pines in field next to Capt Whiteheads for another year, I am going to Plantation to day

18. Hilling Halling out manure & Coltering in new ground, took up Bybees Sweet Potatoes Sweet Seed,

19th this morning taking up balance Sweet Potatoe Seed, working on Carriage House & Coltering & Hilling etc

20 Planted Sweet Potatoe Patch, Seed Keep prime, & Irish too, Coltering in fresh ground & Hilling in new ground, claiborne halling out manure, very cool Sal & me & Doran went to Fannies yesterday & to Mr worshams & vaughans & mrs Hunt went up to Kates & Mr Moses

22nd Began to Plant Corn down below new Barn, claiborne & Smith Halling out Manure, little Henry & Clem Hilling in new ground, I planted Snaps myself & Simblings fine day Planted ps Corn by Shop

23rd Nannie & all going to Mrs Colemans I am going to Chalk Level Laying off for corn & expect to Plant on to dayChick Corn ^ Halling & Coltering in new ground to day –

24 Planting Corn to day & finished Chick Corn I went to Mr Pannills, & Settled up with Geo.

1861 april 30th Put up foundation of Carriage House Bob & overseer finished halling out manure Henry & Harry Bedding Corn Land on branch clem Hilling cool weather at this time & dry

May 1st Marked Calves Beding for Corn on branch Fencing next to Vaughans McHaneys & on Road & clem Hilling — cool morning began to fence this morning on Creek & they wont finish neither will they finish fixing ground for Corn, – windy & cool to day

2nd Mr Blanks came this morning & went to aspen Grove to Spay Shoats 26 in all then Came here 9 here to alter & mark 1 he said was too small to spay marked it & Turn it out to be done here after went from here to Mr Hunts place for the same purpose, overseer went to Mill to day with waggon carried 8 Bushels wheat for me & 1 Turn Corn to Richard Whitehead|Whiteheads]] 1½ Bushel wheat for Henry & 5 Bushels wheat for himself Carried the wheat to Faris Mill for flour, last night Patrolling our company – Our poeple are fencing on Creek to day & finished etc etc clem spining etc very cool windy weather & yesterday & day before tremendous winds etc dry & cold Marked 3 Calves here and at aspen Grove, 3rd May Began to Plant Corn on Creek this morning, & finished or trying to finished bed=ding & listing. Cow, Clarys younger Heifer Clary had a calf yesterday –brot Two 2 Turns meal yesterday home –

4th Finishing Planting Corn on Low grounds Plowing in fresh ground - Sent to mill for Henry Hester & Esau for Jerry to day I went to Chalk Level to day– [faded] meeting at Hunts place FW & Mary James here
