1854 July 21st Where the Chinch bug Killed the Corn, we planted over a few days ago. - Fine shower of Rain this evening at House hard Rain on mountain & great wind etc Blowed off pc of middle Barn roof

22 Hilling up Lot Tobacco by prizebarn

26 Sent to mill & had to go to Mr Pannills Rained Smartely Hilled up second yrs ground last time Plowing 3r yrs ground Sewed turnips in 3rd yrs ground

27. replanted a little Tobacco this morning Plowing & Hilling up 3rd yrs ground

Augt 7 wed little young Corn - Hilled up new ground Tobacco, raised Cutting House Shrubed & Piled up rocks in fresh ground owens clearing for Wheat. Shrubed this side of Branch for Corn to day we are Halling Logs to Yates Mill expect to Hall 8 there to day Toping & worming over Tobacco, - Sent to Yates Shop 4 H H 1 Colter 1 Frisen for old & had 1 shoe put on H. Clay that had not beenput on more than 4 days Sent to Yates to Mill nearly 1 Bbl corn — Mrs Hunt sent me 2½ Bus Corn to Yates mill, Sent Fed a Cow to Mrs Hunts for John Hunt, which I was to give him for a steer —

8 Very cool Henry & Mr Wyatt at work on Cutting House. Fed & Boys Toping Tobacco over Balance worming & succoring & Grubingfor Corn

9 at work on cutting House, & shrubing for corn, Jordan Plowing Lots Tobacco & Guanoed Lot - Sandy Cutting down shingles Tree, etc Very cool indeed this morning Sewing Turnip seed in Lot Tobacco

11 Finished new cutting House yesterday all But Steps that we have done this morn

2th april 1856 Plowing for Corn Set Log Heaps on fire in evening Rained very good Rain

3rd Striped Tobacco till evening then it cleared off & we went to Plowing Hilling etc I went with Mr Pannill & Hunt to see & inquire about Wm Vaughan Beautiful weather at this time

4 Plowing for Corn Hilling & Halling out leaves & begun to Colter in new ground to day this day Sewed Guano on Slope next to new ground next to woods from old meadow Fine weather, –

5 Coltering Second years Land malling wood Hilling same Burning Logs etc Plowing for Corn very good weather – Jordan gone to mill 2 turns Card & bring back 4 etc Jacob gone to Meadsville

6th clear pretty day tolerable Cool, Jerry found a Lamb in the woods this day or yesterday –

6 Hilling Coltering new ground & second yrs Land burnint up all our Log to day Plowing for Corn Jacob went to Meadsville

7th Clementina taken Sick yesterday fine weather or day before, - Plowing Hilling etc etc

8th Plowing for corn Hilling Second yrs ground & coltering Sent little Henry for Doct Thomson to see clementina she has been sick since last Saturday let Abram Crews have 3 Bus Oats & I am to have ½ he makes - etc wrote to Fanny White today She has sent me 1 Bushel Corn

9th Hilling in second years ground Coltering on Johns Branch breaking up corn ground coltering in new ground, - fine weather — Plowing on Johns fresh ground, - Doct Thompson came to day to see clem, first time, Doct Thompson came 2nd time to see clem, she is very sick Plowing Balance Tobacco Lot, Hilling & Plowing got out Rye yesterday Hilling Plowing on Corn [water stain] for Tobacco etc etc to day

1857Put it out She is dreadfully burnt from Jany16th knees up nearly to her chin & We had only one small bottle of Pain Killer & had to Send to Mr Adams at 5 oclock Jordan got back about light brought only 1 vial of P D. Killer & 2 of Roses from adams - she seem much easier than she was before day we are cutting big growth in new ground Halling wood To day waggon & Cart – my hand & thumb is burnt badly & we applied the Pain Killer only & sweet oil & a little Cream in it — Peggy is badly burnt from her Knees up I went to Anderson & settled my Acct & fannie whites,- all to finishing, very cold day Mr. Pannill Came here & fixed Colo Smiths matters, etc Halled wood to day waggon & Cart. Bot. & paid for 1 pr Kid Gloves of Barber & Thompson. Paid Doct Thompson for Mrs Hunt the $6 She gave me for him & took his Rect

17th I went to meeting & from there to Mr Tuckers take him & his wifes relinquishment for the Grand of Land whereon Joshua Shields Died - & when I got back Peggy is a great deal worse & I sent for Doct Thompson forthwith & Sister coleman also who is here at this time She had been been Puking off & on all night with Puking something like Black vomit. no Passage since she was burnt & Jordan returned about 9 oclock& said Doct Thompson would start here as soon as the moon was up and it Commenced Snowing & wind severe from N. E. & N. W. Severe night. no Doct Thompson this morning yet & I shall send for Doct Andrew ThompsonJno H Estes in the Course of One Hour If Dr J. C. does not come

1857 Oct 7th Cut some Tobacco next to Crews Firing Tobacco Barn at Crews, & Housing new ground Tobacco Barn back of Garden wormed & succored over all we have & began to Gather up Tops - Did not Hall in all of Tobacco — ——————————

8th Halling & Gathering Tops to day Finished House next to Crews. Sent Jordan yesterday to work for Bro. Pannille,Gathering Peas etc etc etc Finished Halling up new ground Tobacco then Halling up Tops

9th Halling up Tops & stacking to day firing Barn Back of garden, Sent little Henry to Faris Mill, 2 Bushels wheat for flour Gathering Peas dryed snaps etc & a few apples

10th Removed Tobacco from new Barn at Crews to new prize Barn finished getting up Tops etc

11th Jacob & Jerry went to Riceville, & I at homestaid

12th This day we housed all the Tobacco that we have cut second time, firing Halled wood & Halled up 2 Loads of Corn to use Turned out out Hogs a few days ago Jacob Returned on Friday last 9th Oct

13th Mr Danl R Hunt to be married this day We are all invited; we are firing Tobacco Flax Seed etc. greased Horses etc etc to day,

14th Firing fresh ground & Barn at Crews this morning cloudy & like for Rain. making fires under the Tobacco in all the Houses this morning & yesterday Jordan gone to Mill 1 Log & 1 Turn wheat for negroes Log to be sawed ¾ thick & squared edged. Fanning out wheat to Sew, made 25 Bushels off Lot Smooth Head white wheat Turned out Hogs a few days ago put another in pen

1860 March 15th Sewed Oats in morning in evening coltering & Hilling at new ground Give Mr Moses 2 Bushels Oats yesterday weather moderated some,-

16 Sewing Oats & mauling & Piling trash in near new ground,

17. Coltering at new ground & Hilling. sewing Oats in evening not quite done sewing I went to sale of Mrs Hunts Land Did not sell

18. Raining this morning -- weather moderate

19th Rained all night last night striping Tobacco Rained nearly all day to day —

20th I went to CH Halled leaves done up cross fence by fresh ground & Rolled some Logs cleaned out Stables in the morning

21 Coltering old field & Hilling next to whiteheads

22. I went to Aspen Grove, Sent Claiborne to Roll Logs at Kelleys Henry & Harry finished Sewing Oats Sewed 31½ Bushels here & 64½ Bus at aspen Grove, clem & Smith Hilling to day I went to see Mrs Hunts who has been sick about a week. James Hunt up It has been very windy & cold for Several days this week, gave Bob my Coat for Mrs Hunt - Sewed Plant Beds over here

23 Rolled Logs had 1 hand from Kelleys & 1 from my plantation Mr wife went to Fannies Kates

24 Halled wood, Hilled etc Wilson Cutting little Ditch in corn field - very cold

25 went to aspen Grove & Strait Stone Nannie went with me

26 I went to Mr Pannills, Coltering Hilling & Breaking up Corn Land still cold We have at aspen Grove 17 Lambs & 1 young calf -
