1848 May 6th Send Henry to mill 10 Bus. corn & 1 Bushel Buck wheat picking up roots & Hilling this morning pulled cockle out of fresh ground wheat

7 Gust last night & night before hard Rain & wind —

8 put up fencing prizing Tobacco & replanting corn. Ground wet Henry plowing on Branch in lot, My W gone to Mrs Hunts. Mary H Coleman sick I went there last night in night. She was some better — Very hard Rain about 3 oclock to day also last friday & Saturday

15. Finished our new ground, replanting corn coltering second yrs ground weather cool & fair,- Planted snaps etc etc & Hilling second yrs ground

16 Finished replanting corn, Plowing

17 Hilling up second yrs ground prepared ground for Peas & Greens Plowing for Tobacco — in Lots

18 Hilling Plowing - Plowing corn in Lots at home —

19. Kit gone to Lynchg for me prizing Tobacco - Hilling yrs landsecond Planted Pea Patch etc —

20_ Halled up stack fodder prizing Hilling etc Planted Tobacco this day

1855 Jany 10th Mr H. Arnold & Bro. Came this day wednesday about 3 Oclock in evening

11th Striped Tobacco again to day & nearly done What we halled from mountain Spring barn cloudy & moderate & Rainey M Arnold worked a while this morning & it began to Rain & stopedthey

25th Carried 1 Log for sheeting to Yates & 3 Bags Corn, 2 at mill besides & since the 21st Jany we have been Plowing finished Cutting & Began to Mall One little snow the 10th Inst. we have been Piling wood & burning Brush, at work on Prize shed Mr H. Arnold & Bro quite cold & like for snow. Rose got Mr Miller at Sale has come out very much

26th Snowed last night this morning sent Jordan to Millers Mill with Bag of Cotton to Riceville after Nails & Allum - & after papers – Sewing clover seed in fresh ground,- balance striping late Tobacco — cloudy & like for Rain

27th malling & burning brush & piling wood Henry getting shingles —

Feby 2 Halled up Ice this week Halled wood. malling burning brush Cut wood over on the mountain for Plant Bed Henry Arnold & Bro. Jesse finished here & we have settled & gone this morning to day we are malling & halling wood. etc fine day Snowed last Sunday all all day =

7th Feb Catharine S Graves began to teach School yesterday the 6th Burnt Plant Bed on mountain & sewed it yesterday to day we got two more Loads of Ice this morning 2 or 3 Snows Shallow ones, Mary Hunt Coleman came yesterday the 6th to go to School - cloudy & like for Snow

1855 april 27th not quite done Halling out manure putting ashes Plaster etc on Plant Beds etc Jordan gone to mill this morning after meal coltering & Hilling at stony point

2nd May 1855 We have been hilling second yrs Land at stony pint Coltering at Johns branch & laying off Prized Two Hoghd Lugs nearly done, all the Lugs - manured Plant Beds except on Mountain,= expect to finish at Stony pint to day –

4 Fine Rain, Sold T W anderson my Crop Tobacco made 1854 for $8½ Round; 2 Hdds Lugs prized & delrd, the weights we are to be governed by in Richd, – Hilling on Johns Branch, Card 2 Hhd Lugs to Riceville yesterday Fed sho[e] mending for Mary Hunt, taking down all our Second quality Tobacco this morning, Beding for Cotton etc etc

5 Bedding & Planting Cotton Irish Potatoe Patch by spring, Peas water mellons Pump kin Patch Cucumbers musmelons cucumber etc Hilling on Johns branch Beding on Branch for Tobacco quite Cool this night, uncovered our Plant Beds, etc ¬– Planted 2 squares Greens etc etc Halled up last stack Oats –

12- Finished Hilling on Friday & Began to Plow & weeding Corn done weeding & Plowing all the flat Land went to Lynchg past week Mr Fitzgerald done to Richmd to see a Doctor on a/c of his situation

14 Plowing & weeding corn & replanting as as we go, very dry weather Corn & every thing comes up badly –

1858 Sept 26th cloudy & like to Rain, protracted meeting at Rice & we wanted to go - so unlikely we did not

27th Halling up Tobacco from mountain & nearly put all first cutting 2000 in new prize Barn firing now 4 at Home & about 60400 in 4 at House & Owens Barn at new ground, filling owens

28 to day firing worming & succoring & Halling stumps to fire with at each Barn, we are going to Rice this morning to meeting Baptizing etc – – –

28. Finishing Housing all thats cut this morning

29th Stacking Tops here & at Cedar Hill & firing Tobacco etc etc Henry & claiborne gone to Cedar Hill & Fillmore to get up Tops etc-

30th Sent little Henry to Yates with 2 Bushels wheat for flour & 2 Bushels Corn in evening for meal,- finishing top stack this morning Jordan Halling wood to Barns to Fire Tobacco with. The above wheat is the first used of the new crop yet

Friday 1st & 2 Oct 1858 Firing Tobacco at home worming & succoring Tobacco Digging Irish Potatoes & nearly out of seed. very sorry Picking out Cotton Halling Rocks to build chimney to overseers House Halling wood etc etc 5 Barns Tobacco about cured at Cedar Hill they are hanging & Housing - their new ground

3nd Oct. Very clear & dry, going to meeting to Riceville to day Mary Hunt here -

4rd Overseer Henry & Sandy covering Tobacco Riving boards etc, - cutting Tobacco in Lot - to day clearing

5th Riving boards getting Tobacco stacks cutting Tobacco etc.

1859 27th Novr I went to Prayer meeting at Strait Stone, Raining a little —

28th Novr Laid the foundation & worked on stable till evening then worked on Kitchen chimney

29th Finished Kitchen fire place, cleaning up branch next to Capt Whiteheads began to Plow, I went to Riceville agreed for some Hogs for Bro Hunts Estate to come tomorrow evening went to Plant [akou] & expect to Kill our Hogs there tomorrow morning – 26 in number Killed them on the 30th Cut out & salted them up to day – weighing 1777 lbs & let Cothran at aspen Grove have his 300 lbs except 4½ for finding 1860 Sent that to him¬–

Decr 1 Shrubing & Plowing next to Capt Whiteheads -weather moderate, Bot Hogs for Bro Hunts Estate, Kill them to night & 500 lbs for Mr Bybee - come next evening say Decr 1st & we are Plowing & cleaning up for Corn next to Capt Whiteheads

2 Kill Hogs for Hunts Est 1500 & 000 pounds 501 lbs Pounds for Mr By making a little over 2000 lbs Cutting out & Halling Raised my stable etc - Cothran & 3 hands from aspen Grove come ¬–

3rd Last night Mrs Clements Mrs Coleman Mrs Hunt Mary Hunt & Nannie Kate came over with all the children scarced about an insurrection, etc times still & I feel no alarm but they were all very much alarmed, they came here about 8 Oclock in the night I slepted sound as common all quite this morning & they all went home soon
