1856 Augt 11 Finished the Lot nearly — -- 12th Augt began to Thrash wheat Ben with Kellys machine cloudy & like for Rain

13th Several Showers about this time Thrashing this morning & rained stoped us Bob & Joshua here from Mrs Hunts

14th we have been 2 whole days trying to Thrash Our wheat & it has rained so we have not finished yet. Toping & worming & succoring Tobacco this morning cloudy & Rained finely last night weather warm finished Thrashing wheat to day & card the machine to James P Lewis in evening

15 I am going to Riceville carry Jordan the Doct May see him,- Toping worming & & succoring over all our tobacco at this time, Sewed our Turnip Patch last week & some seed in Lot by Hog pen —

16th worming & succoring Tobacco Henry

18th I went to Court Monday morning & stayed till Tuesday night settled with D Marr & all McCullocks Legatees & had the acct Reported in full by Comm Banks as pr Rects & settled for Adams & Martha as here give up the Bond & took a Rect and if any Cost they have it to pay for advertising etc,- Borrowed $200 of Bro. Geo. Gilbert for a month — Our folks finished cutting pines at stony pint Grubed some Henry Lowry & claiborne Sawed shingle Timble & on Tuesday the 19th it Rained in the evening they got up apples & Beet Cider —

20 My wife gone to Mrs Hunts sent by her $119.21 to pay Danl R Hunt for Guano $10 for Lucy Ann collected for her Henry gone

Hhds Staves & 2 there for Square edge Plank Jacob making another pr shoes Jerry S gone to P.O. Striping Tobacco - cloudy & like for snow etc.

6 Jany 1857. Faned out all wheat to day made 1856 - 152 Bushels 4 Bushels in every 100. 6 Bus & a little over due Jas Kelley 6 & upwards sent home Halled wood, put Plank in Barn & firing Cutting Big growth in new ground – very cold weather at this time,-

7th Cutting in new ground all — I went to Riceville Card my wife

8th Mr Jno Hunt here, cutting in new ground going to Fannies etc – – – – –

9 went & stayed all night, & come back evening Cutting in new ground fair cold weather

10 Halled up straw & chaff & Oats This morning. Jerry gone to shop & Mrs Hunts etc Cutting big growth in new ground Cloudy & like for Rain Jordan & Fed gone to Fannies etc to get Jacobs Trunk & Fed is to help get Ice up there monday If they get up there lent Fannie 2 Iron wedges for 2 weeks -

11th Nannie has gone to Mrs Hunts on her way to Richmond tomorrow morning I let her have $20. & she has 3 or four Dollars in Silver Jacob is starting with them on his way to Capt Boxleys to live with his grand Papa Jerry has $6.65 - Jacob & Jerry will meet them tomorrow morning the Lord permitting, very cold weather.

12th All gone on this morning for Richmond Jacob gone to his Grand Papas to live the weather has moderated a little

24th March 1859 Our Friend & Bro John D Hunt Buried this evenining at 4 or 5 Oclock in evening, good many poeple -

25. went over to examine bro Hunts papers John Dew with me & Danl R. Hunt. Chumbly sick all day. Finished Sewing Oats & now Plowing for corn Jacob claiborne & Jerry Smith Cutting & malling wood & Rails - moderate weather

26 I went down to see Jas Shields about going to Lynch’g they have 5 prized Hhds at aspen Grove, 3 Lugs 2 seconds,- Lila sick & has been for about a week, moderate weather Jacob claiborne & Jerry Smith began this morning to cut down Pines down below Susan Roark Sallie Started to School went with Fannie yesterday, 25th March to Board at $4 pr month as long as she goes to school to Kate,

26th I went to aspen Grove, balance Plowing on far branch for corn -

27th I rode over to Bro Hunts place

28th Plowing on same branch 3 plows Mr Chumbly shoemaking for Sallie to daytill evening

[2]9th Raining this morning hard Cutting & malling wood & Halling wood up to day -

30th Shrubing for corn Beding for Do Cutting Post for yard, etc Sent this morning to Hodnetts Kelleys Shields & Whiteheads to see about my young Hogs but could hear a word from them all my young Hogs gone, & has been more or less for sometime

31st Plowing for Corn on Branch next to Capt Whiteheads balance stoping Gullies & washed places in Lot & Mr Chumbly worked on smoke house putting on weather boarding I went to Fannies & Mr Faris for her [illegible]

1859 April 1st Stoped Gullies in Lot. Plowing

2nd Aprl Plowing awhile in morning in Garden & then bushing apple Orchard for corn & it began to Rain, shelling Corn Mr Chumbly Cutting Out my wifes shoes & at work on them I gave him a patern of upperleathers for his Daughter - making brooms & Baskets Wyatt Walker Came after his Bull & pd $2.50 for wintering him this morning,-

3rd Sunday Raining very hard last night Still cloudy this morning My boar gone again, I am going to Aspen Grove to day -

4th Mr Cothran came from aspen Grove this morning & 3 hands & we got one hand from Mr Kelley & 1 from Mr Hodnetts & we Raised our Barn got done before night & sent to Mill & Halled 2 Loads of wood windy day Mr Bybee Rolling Logs & did not send to help us at,- all, Rained last night, smartly -

5th We have been plowing for Potatoes & Cotton, began to Colter Seconds yrs ground, Manured Plants Beds, took up our Sweet Potatoe Seed, Kept tolerable well, very windy & cold to day all day - Sent to Mill yesterday ½ Bbl Corn, & got one Do at Worshams Mill Jordan Came up here to night on his way to Lynchg & Henry & Mr Shields is going down to aspen Grove for another Hhd a ps. Jordan has gone in some Loose,-

6.7.8.9 Hung yard Post Riving Tobacco [?] Cutting & Malling wood, at work some inshop I got home last night from Lynchg about 12 oclock in night

22nd1859May Bedding Lot for Tobacco & weeding Corn & Bushing Oats below Cotton Patch

23rd Nannie carried Sallie up to school Planting tobacco in Lot in evening fall dry- I think cleared off cool

24 Planted some this morning went after corn at Kelleys Beding Lot weeding corn

25 Beding Lot I went to Riceville to hear Graves from Tennessee Preach weeding Corn, Sent for Hog at Mrs Harris s this morning got him & altered him & put him in Pasture,

26. Done fixing Lot for Tobacco – Plowing & weeding Corn,- I went down to planting aspen Grove,- they have planted bout 50 or 60, thousand Tobacco Hills =Fine weather to Kill Grass.

27th Halling Rocks for Chimney for Henrys House to day & weeding corn - Nannie gone to CH to see Jerry & hear Jas R Graves of Tennessee Preach, this mondy & expects to return tomorrow,- fine weather now

27th Went to Election at Chalk Level few poeple there weeding corn halling Rock for chimney been over corn one time with colter & Harrow,

27th Fine Rain this evening late Halling Rocks before & weeding corn —

28 Planting Tobacco to day all day Bybee helped with 2 hands from 11 Oclock till night Nannie gone to CH - with Nannie & Lucy Finished planted Lot Tobacco & replanted in Lot that we planted first.-
