1845 March 14th Malissa sick child Born after midnight this morning --

15. Bud Faris sent for help to Roll Logs Could not help him Henry sowing oats. I am going to meeting. Federick cutting gutter for Malissa House to drain the water off -- Phil gone to mill. Just commencing sowing oats this morning tho have been preparing the ground for 2 days.

1845 March 18th Sewed 15 bushels to this night Fed gone to day to Roll Logs to Mr Neals Set yams this morning for [name?] to plant. Planted goard seed Paid Mr Moon $115 in all the other $10 I dont Know that I shall ever pay him without being compelled because he did not finish my houseat all & some he did do was not done workmanlike

1845 March 19, Wednesday Very cold & windy ground hard frozen I am afraid Tobacco plants Killed. My wife & F.W. gone to see Coleman Mrs

20 Really a winters morning ground hard frozen. cant Plow. Freezing weather Pull Down old saddle House this morning at 12 Oclock this day the water Freezes in the Porch tremendous cold for March 1845 1845 26th. weather a little moderated Sewed flax seed nearly done sowing oats

1846 July 30 Rained quite hard last night beeting apples - 30 Succoring Tobacco & worming began to Hill up lots for the last time Sewed Turnip Patch & also in lot by Tobacco House

31st Getting up apples this day –

August 1st Plowing & finishing hilling up Lot by prize Barn & Beeting apples this

2nd Sunday & cloudy but no rain

3rd cloudy this morning Toping worming & Succoring Tobacco this morning Sent Henry Clay to Mrs Hunt to go Lynchg alse Drying apples this morning —

4th Getting up apples to Beet to day Fair & beautiful weather

5 Working Tobacco Lots by & above Granary

6 Beeting apples & finishing lots

7 Plowing & Hilling up Branch Tobacco

8 Went after Mr JD & CA Hunts Still & working as Friday & done on Branch yet

9th Weather dry & Hot corn begins to suffer a little for Rain —

10 Finishing hilling up Tobacco on branch Henry gone back to Mr Hunts after still worm & tub etc little shower of rain at Mrs Hunts yesterday a little here last night after we got home weather dry & very warm, began to dry peaches this morning

11 Worming & succoring tobacco

12 Stilling most of this week

13 Went to see Capt Coleman & he Died about 9 or 10 Oclock in morning

14 he was Buried this day our hands at work On Road Malissas child a Girl Born on the 12 Inst Inst at night—

1848 March 25th Sewing Oats & this morning planted Irish Potatoes, sewed 10 Bus. to this day

27 Sewed clover seed this day Sewing Oats & Hilling new ground weather warm & cloudy

28. Sewing Oats 4 horses, cloudy & warm, took 1 House Tobacco down to day to prize, - , Halled up one stack Oats more to sew. -- Danl> Hunt got Doct White to cut his lip about 4 weeks ago last Monday

29 A Fine morning sewing Oats & Cleaning up new ground, last night about 10 Oclock Malissa bornMalissa's child being 10 she has had, lost 2 Nicy & Morris

30 Treading Oats this evening to seed. Sewed 30 Bushels, alse Raking new ground Fed gone to mill 10½ Bushels corn Planted Onions Beets & Salsify yesterday

31. Sewing Oats & cleaning up new ground

April 1 Sewing Oats & Cleaning up Do weather cool & clear - in evening Rained a little this morning —

2nd Clear & cool - 3. Clear & cool Sewing Oats Collering & Raking groundbig new plowed up Garden

4 Finished sewing Oats sewed upward of 40 Bushels this year Collering etc -Sewed flax seed to day

5 Plowing up Sweet Potatoe Patch & Plowing for corn & coltering.

6- Coltering & Plowing for corn

7. Finished Hilling little new ground

1849 Dec. 5th. Pulling away our Greens Halling wood etc etc etc etc — Drawed out of Barrel 7¼ Gallons Whiskey - Sent & given to Mrs Crews nearly 2 Gallons sa[lost in margin] Given Mr Myers 1 lb Tobacco -

Dec 6th Cutting Small growth in new ground went to Mr. Pannills for Mrs Hunt

Dec 7th. Sent Henry to mill 1 Bbl corn 1 Large Log for weather boarding & Bag cotton weighing 47 lb cutting logs to Day for Stable — etc etc etc

8 Raking leaves fixing straw Racks cutting in new ground put spts Turpentine on Hogs

9th rainy day & cool ——

10 - Halling wood ½ day for Mr Neal cutting in newground cloudy & cool Tobacco ½ daystriping

12. cutting Halling up logs for Stable

12. Malissa child a Boy Born about 8 ocl =ock in morning Raised Stable to day & laid floor in cutting House very cold cloudy & like for snow or Rain

13. Fed started to Mrs Hunts to make shoes grubing & Halling wood from new ground cart & waggon — still cloudy & like for snow

14 striping Tobacco in middle Barn Halled out 2 Loads straw. cloudy & like for Rain —cloudy & moderate striped yesterday & to day 86 sticks Lugs & 45 of short Tobacco —

1851 July 18th Hilling up new ground Tobacco Plowing Lots Tobacco - Dry & Hot

19th Plowing & Hilling up Lots of Tobacco, still Dry & nights Hot went to Mrs McC 18th & to see Hester. Sent Fed to mill 2 Turns of corn for me 1 for overseer & also 3 Bushels wheat for overseer

20 21 & 22nd Clear & dry & nights a little cool

21st 22nd Plowing & Hilling up fresh ground on mountain Sent new waggon to shop again & Mrs Colmans Iron Going to day to Mrs McC. to grastys & Rice & in the route see about machine at Yates

23rd Thrashing wheat & finished this day - Joel Hubbard machine — fair & Dry — fixing to Thrash at Mrs McCullocks, Keatts machine

24th going to carry the machine to Crew Miller this morning Fed sick yesterday & done the wheatnothing in choping in corn - finished Hilling up Tobacco [on?]

28th Halling Rock to build chimny to Henrys House still cloudy & like for Rain, wind Blew hard yesterday Sunday — Malissas child a Girl was Born Thursday morning before day Break say Juste after midnight, on the 24th July 1851.

29th went to Colo Smiths Plantation & to Mrs McCullock a little shower rain after I got home & in the night it rained again Smartly, my the tooth achwife got

30 Cloudy & like for more rain, We are Replanting our 2 Lots & fresh ground to day - plants from Capt Fitzgerald quarter

31st Replanting in second yrs ground nearly done will get done soon this morning A Fine Rain last night, & still cloudy J D owen went to Colo Dickinsons to get an overseer place this day

augt 2nd now gone to Mr Watson Wamacks on same business

— 11 now gone to Wm Tuckers I don’t Know what for
