1855 Augt 25th Sent 3. large Logs to Mr E Dews Saw Mill to day - 2 for weather boarding & 1 for Sheeting plank 2 . 12 feet long & 1 Bigest 14 feet – Sent by waggon Jordan carried 2 small ones 10 feet long 1 short sheeting one for square Edge plank - making 5 logs in all

Oct. Sent 2 to Yates saw mill one for square edged Plank Inch thick Sent to Yates 4 more Logs. 6 in all –

10th Sent one Log for sheeting to Ezekiel Dews saw mill & got 150 feet square edged Plank

15 Sent another Log to mr Dews & got 150 or 60 feet Bark Edged sheeting

29th Sent 2 more Logs to Yates Saw mill for Granary Shed floors for meal & flour

3rd Decr Cart Card one more for Hhd staves waggon Carrd 2 more logs for Yates one Long & 1 short last Thursday The one Carrd this morning to be sawed into Scantling 3 by 4 for Tobacco House – – making 13 logs up to this time - 4th waggon carried 2 long logs for Rafters etc for Tobacco. Cart Carried 2 for making weather boarding making 17. at Yates & 7 or 9 at Dews

5th Sent 2 more this morning 1 for Rafters for tobacco House one for weather boarding

Feby 22 Carrd this week to Yates 4 Large Hart Logs for Paling Railings for garden

March 6 Burnt Plant Bed & sewed it on Road pt of it without burning, lower end, with Guano alone, Plowing, & Covering all my Beds with Brush at this time,

1856 July 24 Kitty Taken Sick last Thursday 18th or 19th & is sick yet Jordan & Sandy getting better, - Halled up Our fodder put 2 stacks in old prize Barn for Mr Anderson sold & put 2 in new cutting House, Hot Dry weather

25th Hung out Tobacco this morning worming Toping Tobacco in fresh ground to day choping out cotton to day, sent for Doct Thompson to see Kitty to day

26. Loaded waggon with Tobacco for Riceville cleaning up around negroes Houses etc Branch etc, worming new ground this evening, - etc etc etc Went to Riceville with Load Tobacco 1347 lbs Balance of our hands cleaning up & fixing about their houses & worming new ground Tobacco, this evening, - clear & dry —

28 working on Tobacco in morning Toping new ground Henry going to Mill for meal & to Dews for weather Boarding Sent 4 Bushels Corn & 2½ Bushels new wheat to Yates to grind for meal & flour

30th Henry at work on Granary shed Balance of them choping at Turnip Patch & corn field clear & dry — Went to Riceville yesterday & card all of our Tobacco we have striped Toped over our Tobacco

31st Doct Thompson has been here to see Kittyto day Henry has floored Granary shed & weather boarded it in 1½ days balance of them been choping in corn till 12 [water stain] choping grass off Plant Bed [water stain]

12th Oct 1856 Halled up & shucked out corn at mountain fine clear weather

13th Sent waggon & cart, Twice to Dews saw mill to day 2 log for Joist for Porch 16- 2 Do 14 or 15. for Sheeting - Sent 2 Turns Corn for meal, clear day Toping succors for to Cut. gathering peas etc Snaps seed etc etc adams & Jacob gone to Harmony to Barbacue load for 2 Logs Cart carried etc brot back sheeting last,

14 Raining this morning we put our little Tobacco in Barn a little before day fired all the tobacco Barns & then shoemaking Making Brooms basket etc etc making Gate from 12 oclock till night we shelled some corn & Kitty spining etc etc – Very cool & windy Rained all day & still continues to night. Jacob making himself a pair of shoes himself, cold weather

15. Rained & snowed last night, quite cold Snow light, Raining a little this morning Shoemaking spining etc etc Halled up stack old oats & only 1 Load wood, I went to Riceville Rained a little & quite cold all day – =Give Sandy & Clem Blankets to day & Kitty Abram Lowry & Claiborne & Lila Blanket to day

16 Kitty & alse spining Sandy & Fed Shoemaking & mending Henry sick overseer went to new Barn & worked awhile & it commenced raining again & he went back to shop to work on Gate pt of 3 days this week, I went to see capt Gilbert, he is sick - rough week & very cool -

17th This day rained nearly all day shoemaking & mending spining & worked some in shop very Cold Rain disagreeable time, - - - - -

21st went to Court yesterday began to Sew wheat, cutting down corn, Wyatt at work on Barn Me Mr Adams my overseer has parted this morning I give him 2 mos wages & 2 Bushels corn & we are off as he don't suit suit me

18th Sent Henry to Dews Saw Mill this morning 1 Large Log upwards 16 feet flooring Putting & shucking corn filled cutting House full shucks clear fine weather Mr wyatt at work to day

19th Mr Wyatt & Henry at work on Hs house Balance pulling up & halling corn Halled up plates wood etc etc took down house

20th Shingling Hs house pulling & halling corn Went down to shop myself fine weather

21th this morning unexpectedly raining Henry & Lila Out of Door or rather had to move in Kitchen, Fed & sandy shoemaking balance spining picking cotton etc – – –

22nd cleared off & we have a beautiful day Mr Wyatt & Henry shingling House Jacob Halled up & pack down his Tobacco. Finished halling up & shucking corn Jordan & Jerry went to Mrs Hunts after Sow & Pigs. Card 2 plows to shop

23rd Rained in evening I went to strait stonepray meeting

24 Jordan & Sandy getting wood Henry & Wyatt finished his house & went about Clems covering North side balance striped my late Tobacco in new prize barn till 12 oclock & then till night finishing Jacobs Halled 2 Loads of wood for Mr Neal

17th Decr 1856 Halled wood Cut in new ground Went to Riceville after & bot 3 hogs weighing 491 lbs pounds Jordan returned from Fannies etc

18th Killed 12 hogs this morning with the 3 purchased of Mr Stone at Riceville @ $8½ pr 100 lbs cutting to day pd $41 73½

19 Cutting out at new ground, Fixing Ice pound Halling wood, Henry going to Mr. Yates mill with 1 Bag wheat for negroes at X & 1 Bag Corn for meal to get meal & Plank etc carried 1 Log for Square Edged Plank ¾- thick. Jacob gone to Riceville to pay Mr Stone for 491 lbs Pork @ 8½$ pr Hundred amounting to $41.77 ½ Mr T.W. Andersons to pay & take a Rect for the same, - clear Cold day

20th Raining this morning Sleet fanning Out wheat shelling corn Henry gone to carry his Coal to Mr Dews & bring home my plank-

22nd Finished cutting little growth in new ground this morning Jordan halling wood Henry halling straw & leaves & then halling fire wood yesterday was a cold day myself & Mr Mason went Sunday no church meeting in this month - On acct weather — Considerable talk in Halifax about insurrection looks very much like Snow very cold

23rd fixing Ice ponds Halling wood Cutting in new ground Just began this morning to cut Big growth tremendous Cold & Windy this morning clear & cold indeed this morning —

24 went to Strait Stone to appoint Patrol etc went to Mrs Hunts etc getting Ice etc to day very cold

25th Filled Ice house to day got my calf from Mrs Lanes Jacob gone to Fannies etc
