27th Going to Republican Grove to day etc

28 My wife went to Mrs Hunts a good day

29. I went to Mr Hunts to Divide Mrs Colemans negroes etc went to see Shanks Worsham very sick etc etc.

30th Began to work at 12 Oclock Henry at work on shelter etc Jordan & Lowry halling Out Straw & leaves Sandy gone to meeting House with Tar. Fed & balance cutting fixing at new ground to burn Plant Bed etc — etc

31st Burning Plant Bed at new ground this morning Henry fixing shelter for plows got cathed in Snow Just about night Finished burning Dug up prepared ½ of the Patch 14 by 20 yds long

Thursday 1st Jany 1857 Began to snow last evening this morning snow about 4 or 5 Inches Deep we are striping Tobacco Jacob went to Fannies yesterday, cloudy this morning

Jany 2. 3. 4 We have been striping tobacco all this week Yesterday we halled wood till 12 oclock worked Clemam & Fillmore to carriage, worked very well indeed yesterday very windy & cold This morning clear & cold not quite done striping new Barn Prise,- One Lamb come this week, Snow not gone yet. 4th Lowry gone to Fannies with Arch this evening to be clothed Hat & Blanket for $45.00till x next Christmas

5th Sent to Mill 2 Bags Corn [water stain] got 2 Turns meal there sent Log for

12th Jany 1857 little Henry gone to bring the horses back. had a pair of shoes put Fillmore at Dews shop & got 10¢ from my Nannie to pay for putting them on Henry went to Yates mill to day Carried 5 Bus Corn & got 2 Turns Meal, Carried another Log for Hh^d staves making 2 for Hh^ds staves Mr Wyatt came here this morning to sett up Hh^d & did not finish it

13 went to Shanks & sold his property for JD Hunt Mrs Coleman, Mr Wyatt fixed the crusher to day & finished Hh^d this morning Cutting big growth in new ground clear cold weather tho moderated a little, ground 2 Bbls Cob & corn to day etc,

14th Sent 1 One more Log to Yates for Hh^d staves making 3 there 2 Turns Corn for meal & Sent 1 Large Log to Dews for Hh^d staves Cutting big growth in new ground to day commencing Snowing about 12 oclock to day & snowed about ¾ hour & stoped still cloudy little has not come back yet Wednesday ^night

15th Cutting big growth in new ground fixed Cover for Cob Crusher this morning went to shop & had buggy mended etc, Cold day Thursday this day 15th little Henry got back from Charlotte a little in the night gone ^{4 days} We have one little lamb come some days ago

16th Last night about 3 oclock this morning we were alarmed by the Cry of Fire Peggy had caught a fire & with great difficulty we put it out Kitty & myself Kitty thought of the Pale of water & threw it on her & soon we

Just before they got there they passed a goodly number of Gypses with Carry alls & Horses all Camped Out in the Snow, they started from Bro Roaches Tuesday 2nd Feby & got to Mrs Hunts in evening & I went over there & we come home that night being from 3 weeks & 3 days & what is worst than all see but little of Richmond on account of the weather But If the Lord spare us & we can make our arrangements we will go together next time providence permitting & I will try & let her See something

F this morning We have halled up Fresh ground little Barn in new prize Barn & pack it down Cutting & Pilling wood at new ground Henry Cutting wood to fire plank Jordan & Jerry Smith or Buck halling out tobacco Stalks from prize shelter - like for Rain & very moderate weather, at this time snow has gone very much to day —

6th Halled a Load of Tobacco from old prize Barn to new to strip to day cloudy & like for Rain,-

7th Striping Tobacco all day ground very wet moderate weather Kate & Jerry came down yesterday – snow most gone. I went to meeting House to day -

8th Sunday Kate & Sandy went up to Fann ies to day- Rec^d a letter from Mr Jno D Hunt about renting Owen his overseers house & Owen here to day. Sent Jerry up to to see Shanks & his wife to day Sent them 3 lbs coffee & some Rice & Fannies Lila Bread & flour for them –
