1857 June 26th Began to weed Tobacco in fresh ground on Johns Branch, Laying by Corn at mountain Spring Barn alse & Jerry Smith choping in core & Peas. Halled up Stack Blade Fodder this morning Rose & Mr Faris’s Jack this day Hester Refused very warm day Wrote to Jacob P Graves Wm. A Miller Miller & One to Lovelace & Mott Choped out new ground Tobacco & Plowing corn Laying by etc choping in Owens clearing to day —

27th Finished choping out new ground & choping in Corn owens clearing

28th went to Sunday School Fannie Kate & all here —

29th Fine Rain last night replanting Lot & new ground to day Sent to Mr Millers Plantation to day to& did not quite replant get some Plantsbut got none Wrote to Mr Wm. A Miller to pay Mr Charles L Cocke Hollin Institute $51.36 includingthat being the amt I owe there including Doct Lemons medical Bill for Kate Replanted new ground & nearly finished

30th Let Mr Crews have Henry clay to day to Plow cutting wheat. Sent Robin to be shod Fed & clem in Tobacco fresh ground next tocrews Abram Crews cut wheat this day Henry sick & sent for Doct Thompson, clem weeding Tobacco next to Crews

1857 Novr 28th Finished Sucking corn halled up last night, I went to Hill field yesterday for Mrs Coleman & bot wallers corn for her This morning putting shucks in cutting House Pulling corn next to overseers House & Trying to get in all in field & shuck it out to day fine cool weather - Jerry gone to Post office this morning - finished shucking

29th Fine day went to Mrs Hunts. Jacob went to Mr Haleys to see Mr Dallas - who is sick.

30th Halling & Housed corn & finished Henry went to mill card 5 Bus. corn & 1 Bus wheat,- Balance Housing corn

Decr 1st Beautifull day worked on primings till Dinner & Halled wood & stalks to day made cow Pen, Sandy went with me to Hillfield to measure corn for Mrs Coleman I have been twice for her to attend to her

2nd Waggon Started to Lynchg with primings after 12 oclock Card also 7 or 8 Bus wheat Fed shoemaking & Jacob, Halling corn stalks Began to Grass this day in evening —

3rd Killed 3 Fat Hogs Halling stalks Grubing & cutting in new ground, fine day clear —

4th Began to Burn plant Bed in slash rained at night, we prepared nearly ½ the Bed —

5. Finished Burning plant Bed in slash sowed Guano on it & tranched it out but did not fence it in,- waggon returned Saturday night from Lynchg hot 2.80 for primings only $1.10 for wheat, I owed Wm A Miller $3.43 for 2 sacks salt & ½ Ton Guano Began to Rain this evening & Rained last night & continues to rain. —

Letter from Wm A Miller & marked on Hdd

This is what we have to pay for 1858 March 16 went to Riceville & got the Hhd of midling bot by Barber & Thompson & paid for 728 lbs & it weighed here exactly the same as it on Hdd including freight & Drayage Halled by T. W Anderson @

Halling ——— Fencing around Corn field fence & Planted Irish Potatoe Patch & Plowing this day Jerry started to school to Mr Boyd ineveningyesterday the 16th March 1858 - fine weather —

17th Treading out oats to sew to day Jordan & Buck halling Rails at new ground till 12 Oclock cleaning out tranches on Branch, & fencing on Cross fence in field & helping about Oats when wanted —

18th Jacob carrid 2423 Bus. Oats, we are Plowing Jordan Halling wood & Rails at overseers Fencing around Corn field

18th Sallie started to School to Miss Bettie Nunnelle at Mr Lewis,

19 Sold our Tag Tobacco to Thos W Anderson by Jno Singleton @ 5$ cash.

1860 August 18. Worming & succoring Tobacco this morning Henry gone to Aspen Grove to get 10 Bushels wheat, 8 for flour 2 to eat for negroes carried 2 Bus. Corn, & 1 stack to make square edge Plank & sheeting all to yates, etc — Hot day —

19th we all went down to aspen Grove except Jerry who went to St Andrews to meeting

20. Jerry & myself went to Court. Our Folks choped up the Grass & covered plant Beds & then went to Toping worming & succoring Tobacco next to Whiteheads

21st Toping worming & succoring Tobacco Mr Wright came here yesterday morning Monday to work on yard at it again to day

22nd Started waggon with 2 Hdds Tobacco from aspen Grove, Jerry gone with it gave him $6 - 2 Bushels corn in Ears & oats & fodder Mr Wright here again Mrs Hunt started from here this morning for Mr Browns & come back in evening, - Doct Thompson comes to Mr Hunts Plantation nearly every Ho[u]r about 10 days & to Bybees together Emma Died monday morning, 19th Augt.

23rd Toping Tobacco worming & succoring Tobacco & Beeting Cider Cloudy this morning Beeting Cider in evening Henry started with 2 Hdds Tobacco from aspen Grove wednesday evening,to Lynchg Jery & Smith went with him Expences, Henry & my 2 Horses — Oats for 4 Horses & some fodder 2 Bus. corn in years from here Toll of Waggon 1.25 - pd I sent for 1000 lb Peruvian Guano to Wm Miller 5 Sent waggon on Home by Henry

29th Saturday Sept 1860 I Have been stilling nearly all this week for Bro Hunts Est. stilled into Low wines 11 Bbls Cider Finished Covering Barn for Tobacco to day & skined Cow, got up Broom Corn Sent Jerry^ ^ Smith to Chalk Level,-

30th Sent Wm A Millers acct to Mrs Coleman by Charles to day

Oct 1st Mrs Coleman came gave me $40 money to pay Saml Steptoe & Wm A Miller Firing Tobacco, on Road finished stilling Cider for Bro Hunts Est. this morning prizing Tobacco to day Turned out another Hdd & put under prize the Lug Hdd chinked Barn, etc etc. Finished worming & succoring over Tobacco Gave My Daughter Kate 4 Ewe Lambs & a stack Blade fodder to Mr Moses last spring to feed with

2nd Oct. Stilling myself, Mrs Hunt went to Doct Steptoes & come back at night prizing old Tobacco cutting to day in near new ground all day - moderate weather finishing new Barn

3 Hilling & finished to day by Dinner made 42 Gallons, toll & stilling to come out for Bro Hunts Est — Cutting Tobacco Bob at work here to day cloudy Sent all the Cotton over to old place that belongs there oil & molasses

4 Prizing & Finished prizing to day Rained nearly all day

5. Daubing new Barn & Cut over Tobacco have Cut about 2000 sticks getting up apples & Beeting Mrs Fitzgerald 2 hands come at night to help
