1857 Oct 14th Weaning Hesters second Mule Colt Mary, last night,= Our old Corn is about to give out 3 Turns brot at this time which is all & lasted well, very fine favorable fall, we have now at this near 700 sticks of Tobacco perhaps more standing We have not cut over our new ground but once, lot twice right Smart standing in Lo =Daniel R Hunt ^Esqr _esqr & Miss Emma Mebane was to be maried last night in Richmond at 3rd Presbyterian church – etc etc. Raining nearly all this day Bro^t back the wheat car^d to mill This morning – getting wood & stumps for Barn at Crews & fresh ground worming & succoring our Tobacco again to day firing Tobacco nearly all day —

15th Still rains a little firing Tobacco Finishing worming & succoring If it does not rain,- Mr. E. G. Lewis gave me a young Boar Pig, sent for him this morning — cleared off in Evening Dug Irish Potatoes in part

16th clear in morning soon sun shone bright & very soon it clouded up & about 8 & 8 Oclock it rained hard & Turned cold, Kill sheep; firing Tobacco Yet & wish to cut my Tobacco this day - If it stops raining in time Did not get Done tho very cool no frost turned a little warmer after dark & we stoped —

17th Finished cutting & Pilling Tobacco & no frost. Our meeting at S. Stone fine weather ———

18th Meeting day & fine weather

19 I started to Court at 4 Oclock & got back By Summer this day we are plowing land for wheat & Cutting down Corn fired 2 Barns this morning weathered Turned a good deal cooler, run 3 Plows this day

1857 Oct 20th Began to seed wheat in fresh field next to Overseers House & Cutting down Corn, Halled up 2 or 3 Loads this morning to use, Mr Dan^l Hunt & Lady expected here to day - - weather much cooler - In going to Court Plenty of Poeple have their Top fodder standing in Shocks & Just finished Cutting Tobacco - & some not hung yet.

21st Housing Tobacco tho last cutting in Owens Barn Did not hold It well have to bring some away ^shortly

22. Cutting down corn to sew wheat —

23rd Sewing wheat by fresh ground Barn Smoking Tobacco & Cutting down & stacking corn sewed about 8 Bushels wheat — I went to Fannies etc Rained a little Carried Sallie to go to school,

24th done very little this but fire Tobacco & shoe make, I went to Meeting House Raining nearly all day & few Poeple there & the Election of Preacher put off till 3rd day of novr. next - Halled wood & shelled ^corn

25th still cloudy & like for Rain, (Sunday-

26th Sewing wheat, cutting down & stacking corn firing Owens Barn of Tobacco,- very windy cool day all day working Rose at Plow, Halled 2 Loads of wood & 1 Load of stalks for cows — —

27. went to Riceville after Sugar Coffee Leather etc.- wrote to Bro. John etc – Cutting down corn sewing wheat etc etc

28th Sent by Bro. Dallas 1 pr shoes to Kate ^1.37 to Sallie 1 pr made at home & to Fannie her 4 yds cloth - - sewing wheat Cutting & stacking corn clear fine weather,

29th cleared off Sewing wheat in Owen clearing cutting & stacking corn in fresh field & expect to get done to day, Jerry carried Robin to shop & went to Riceville to [water stain]
