4th February 1858 Begun to Rain about 10 Oclock last night & sometime in the night began to Snow ^{Horses runaway coming back from Millers Mill yesterday}& this morning Snow 6 or 8 Inches Deep has & we are striping Tobacco, & putting snow in ice House,= to day= Trees very full of snow & Roads stoped up, cloudy & like for rain all day

5th Snowed & Rained last night a little & cloudy this morning, Striping Tobacco at new prize Barn, one she[e]p Died last night

6th Part cutting wood Henry & Jordan Halling wood from mountain, fresh ground Halled wood at Chumblys & 1 Load of wood to Mr Neals Found part of our Hogs over on the mountain next to Mr Pringles, but could not get them home Clear day not very cold, Snow melted but little yet

Febry 9th cutting up by overseers House Henry Compl= =aining. Pal. Sick Doct Thompson came to see Pal Pal. has very Soar Throat, - my Hogs gone again Jacob got ½ lb Cotton for Kitty to spin,Cutting & trying to get done by overseers house cleared off this morning & windy & cool, we hope Pal is a little better, Halling wood,

-10th. Cutting & finished by overseers House Halling wood to day & halled out Straw - Turned cold in evening my hogs gone again found some of them^{to day -}

11th. Malling at mountain Spring alse burning Brush, ^{nannie gone to Mrs Hunt to night} very cold this morning, 14 Lambs to this time Henry has been complaining for 3 days & in house

12th Began to Snow this morning Sent Jordan & Buck to hall 2 Loads^wood for Miss Neals Shelling corn making Bro[o]ms etc etc not very cold — Wind N,E,- nannie come back in the Snow this morning & Horse threw her & Jerry at the gate flat on the ground & did not hurt [water stain] Snowing yet late in evening Corn shelter broke to day & took 2 or 3 hours [water stain] at 2 oclock in evening about 4 Inches

1859 Oct 2nd, Stayed at home all day went to aspen Grove Saturday Rained a little this day in morning

3rd Pulled Corn in Orchard & put in corn house Toping Succors in fresh ground

Oct 4th they are cutting to day in old field, Jerry is gone to Vaughans with traveller to carry him - I Start to Richmond this morning -

15th I have returned to day from Louisa & Richmond Sold Johns Estate Land in Hanover to aaAdophus Tensley]] by Godden & apperson of Richmond, auctioners — had Cap^t Boxleys Will recorded etc left Bonds & $30.06 in Cousin J. C. Boxleys hands to Collect & pay Taxes etc - etc etc Our Folks has been Cutting Tobacco Housing Firing Tobacco Cutting down corn fixing for Sewing wheat, Finished Cutting Our tobacco, this evening — after I got home I was taken sick puking & purging something like cholera - Sent for Doct Thompson got better in the night, Bro. J Pannill [hap?] here & stayed with me while sick ^{all night}

16th I am better on this morning

17th Hanging Tobacco I am better, Raining a little & I am not enough to go to Court Sent Jacob etc - did not rain much Mr, Moses & Kate came to see me wrote to Sallie Mr Wingfield & Miss Gooden & apperson to day - Raining in the night

18th cleared off very fair pretty day Halling up wood & some to Barns & then Halling up Tobacco & Housing —

19th Went to Plantation to day bro^t wheat Fan up, 1 Turn Corn 1 sheep & some vinegar & Brandy Halling up Tobacco & finished I went to Sarah McCullock etc etc,

24th May 1860. I went to Election, Saw Mr Pannill, he is quite bad off, from a Fall from his Horse coming from Court last Monday night — Cap^t Yate gotwas thrown Two [too] but did not get Hurt. Bob here this day at work. weeding Corn Plowing & coltering Corn, manured Our Plant Beds this morning Finished Tuesday I believe Hilling in new ground Damp weather Mrs Hunts still very much compla[in]ing —

25. Rained Hard this morning striped Tobacco a while & then went to planting Tobacco & trying to get done Our Crop

26 I went to aspen Grove Plowing & weeding Corn to day - Fixed Clems House pulled down old House this morning Bob not here to day. Mrs Hunt still complaining - etc - W^m C Grasty here to day – – – –

27th Sunday Doct Tho^s Haley came to see Mrs Hunt to cure neuralgia, stayed till evening, & think she is not as bad off at night as usual Rained hard in the evening, claiborne went to Mr Moses

28 Mrs Hunt Rested tolerable last night & seems sick from the Physic this morning

29 Plowing Corn & weeding next to Cap^t Whiteheads Finished Plowing over there Doct Haley Came here to see Elvira, & amy sick too Doct Haley came second time to see Mrs Hunt,- Mr. Faris came between 1 & 2 oclock

30. weeding Corn Finished plowing next to Whiteheads Fixing waggon for Lynchg. Raining this evening a little

31st Rained very hard last night, I went down I went to aspen Grove to day

1860 June 4th Mr Faris came worked about 2 Hours & went to Capt Whiteheads Milley Ann taken sick this morning

5th June Lilas Baby & Mary sick Milly Ann & Ell still sick, Mr Faris Came this morning. plowing corn in Lot. replanting Corn last we planted in Lot weeding cotton & Corn etc - Rained last evening clear this morning - Let Mr Bybee have for negroes over at Mr Hunts place 2 Galls molasses out of 5 got for them in my cask -

6th John P. Hunt started to school at Cap^t J Richards in Lunenburg this day My Buggy Harness Bob & Top from Catalpha,- John been at work here every day this week J P Hunt is to board at Cap^t Richards at $6 pr month & $1.50 pr month now for Tuition, gave Pride $1.00 & Bob $1.50 for Expense,- fine morning Wednesday - Rained in the evening & stoped Mr Faris about 4 Oclock,- & stoped plowers Daniel R Hunt came to see Mrs Hunt & Mrs Hargrave, stayed all night

7th Rained hard again last night, & this morning we are replanting Tobacco Mr Faris at work again, DR Hunt Mrs Hargrave Sal Tate & Matty staid all night John at work this morning too Mrs Hunt gets worse, last night & this morning

8th Mr Faris & Jno Clark here at work Mrs Hunt rather better this morning she gave Dan^l R Hunt who left this morning $10. & Gave Me her money to take care of for her say $40 Haling sand this morning Laying by fresh ground Corn. Choping out with Hoes, etc Mr Cothran spaying our shoats say 11 in all here 2 got out.

1860 June 8th Mr Cothran then ^went over to Mr Hunts place to spay theirs this morning clear pretty day— our negroes sick yet - claiborne complaining last night not much this morning stoping giving medicine & giving Rid-Root & Black Haw Bob Come back gone 3 days with my Buggy to Carry Pride to Capt Richards in Charlotte to school - Mrs Hargrave & Coleman ^{to day} here

9th Put up Lane fence this morning my old sow & 3 shoats missing this morning; Mrs Hunt Better several sick negroes yet; clear weather Bob gone with Mrs Hargrave home this morning Mrs Hunts Carriage & Horses

10th Bob returned I went to meeting Saturday & Sunday to day. clem Sick yet. Ell & Milly Ann Sick but we think a little better,- Mrs Hunt a great deal better to day

11 John here this morning Bob Come about 10 Oclock fair weather Found my sow with 5 Pigs Layed fresh ground & Part of Lot Corn & to day Plowing Tobacco — —

^{June 10th came home} Sallie came from Fannies yesterday

12th bob started to Lynchg this morning with my waggon & Loose Tobacco gave him 1.50 for Toll & have some shoes put on my Horses waggon started too from Mr Hunts place

13th Rained Sent for things Bot [DuRinians] Sale & Striped Tobacco p^t of day

14th I went to CHouse to have Mr Hunts Estates acc^r Settled. replanted Tobacco at & then weding down Rained

15 weeding & Plowing Tobacco bob got back last night.
