1859 August 3rd Begun to machine wheat about 11 Oclock Something out [offen] nearly all day made 2 good Runs in evening

4th Maching wheat got done about 12 Oclock, a little bothered, going to Mr Hunts place; to get out that, very dry Windy & Hot. Wind very high yesterday & Jas Shields Brought home our yearling home — to day, carried machine to Mr Hunts place & downfix it.

5th Began to machine at Mr Hunts place this morning chumney with it cloudy & like for Rain, worming & succoring fresh ground this morning, Hilling up lot, Henry Hooping some Barrels & then at work with Balance of them in Tobacco finished Hilling up Lot Tobacco & succoring fresh ground Plowed little Tobacco by Corn house & Cotton Patch Harrowing Cotton etc etc

6 Finished machining wheat at Mr Hunts place soon I went to Fannies & my wife & Sallie finished choping cotton Hilling up up Tobacco & Potatoe made Turnip Patch Cutting down Pines etc etc, sewed Turnips in Lot & fresh ground

7 This morning cloudy & like for rain fine Rain yesterday at Fannies & all up & down the River & none hire of any consequ[ence] It rained the other side of the River too On Friday but we are very dry & every thingburning up

8th Foggy this morning & yesterday morning waggon & Cart gone home this morning my waggon & Mr Hunts waggon carried machine home changed Road this morning by Peach Orchard cutting down Pines etc fixing to raise top of my Barn tomorrow or next day —

9th TopingTobacco& Halling Rails this morning & for Cross fence in Lot & then to fixing Place Beds & Covering

1859 Augt 17th Bob here this morning 3 days this week, began to cover barn this morning balance cutting down Pines - cloudy & like for Rain this morning - Capt Pallison Boxley Died 7th day of this month Augt 1859 at Mr Poindexters where he has lived about 2 years Recd letter from Cousin Jos C Boxley stating this -

18th went to meeting Mr Chumbly & Henry covering Tobacco House balance cutting down Pines very dry & Cool of nights,-

19th Shingling House Tobacco Barn little Henry & Jerry Smith Cutting Pines Henry went to meeting House to day Rhoda nor Lila did not want to go. claiborne & clem went Wednesday & they all went from Plantation

20 Sent Henry & claiborne to help Raise Barn at Mr Hunts place, chummy & little Henry at work on Barn finished covering & at work on Bonnetts of Barn clem spining

21. Fannie W. & Billie Jones stayed here last night & to day Mrs clements & Johns children here Chip & George Coleman also. Still dry &cool

22nd chumney going to look for a place to live at lent him a Horse Henry toping Tobacco Balance worming & succorring fresh ground Bob came here this morning -

2 [smudge]23 Bob here again to day cutting pines Henry & overseer at work on Barn Balance cutting pine Mr Adams Stanley & Mr Lewis came but they could not get a reference, did not do any thing Nannie Mrs Hunt & Sallie started to Mrs Colemans stop at Johns place, Jerry Came home from Hargraves this 23rd Augt 1859, because

1859 Oct 20th Cutting & Plowing in Lot -

21st went to mill Halled & Cutting firing Tobacco - I went to Jonah Kelleys sale

22nd I went to Johns place, began to sew wheat here, Cutting down Seed Broom Corn & Egyptian wheat. Stoping Gullies in Lot etc

23 Cutting down new ground sewing wheat in Lot fine day for business

24 Same work,

25 Mr Keatts came here to build chimny Sewing wheat this day —

26 Mr Keatts worked 2nd day on chimney pulling Halling up Lot Corn halled 2 Loads. Mr chumney & claiborne with Mr Keatts.

27 Halling up Corn wood & Bricks & at work on chimney - Mr Keatts

28 & 29 Same work on chimney & Housed Corn this evening I went to Sarah McCullock Mr worked nearly 5 day this week -

30st Jerry went to Fannies, Sallie came home yesterday morning Saturday stayed till Monday & went back to Doct Thompsons to go to Danville

31 Halled up a Load of stacks our Load Corn on Stacks Halled 3 Loads wood & 4 Loads Rock Mr Keatts did not come to day all to day

Novr 1st Mr Keatts came after Breakfast Send after Mrs Neale for Lila, child Born about 12 Oclock a Girl. Chumney sent to Mill Halling Rock to day - fine weather

2nd Fox came 8 or Ten Oclock to Dig well & He is Complaining, Keatts Chimney is about to fall down, Arch Broke intoo [in two] in middle, I went to Plantation to day

3rd Mr Keatts at work fixing chimney that was about to fall down Sent to Yates got upwards 30 lbs Iron for chimney etc.

1859 Mr Fox at work on Well 2nd day Henry halling Rock etc Jas Shields Brot me 9 Barrels Corn, fine day -

Novr. 4th Mr Keatts finished chimney & left - Mr Fox at work on well, fine day. Johns Estates Pleasant & charles Halled Rocks to day & Henry all day

= 5th Fox at work on well chumney gone to the store, 2 Boys Cutting Henry Halling wood, sent Robin to shop to be shod before, Fox & Horse been here since 9 Oclock ThursdayWednesdayleft Saturday evening fine weather Mrs Hunt came back here this morning but going to Johns again. Fox left ½ after 2 Oclock this evening & horse went to Plantation in evening. No Fox, Hewed ps for Ice House in morning Killed little Beef weighted 142 lbs Halled up ½ stack Oats, cutting in new ground, Isaac overby here to day quite cool —

8 no Fox yet I went to Pannills & Tan yard got no Leather Sent for waggon fixings for Lynchg in morning chumbly shingling Henry, House claiborne & Jerry Smith Cutting malling Rails & wood & Piling –

9th Mr Fox has not come. Henry went after waggon & started to Lynchg this morning malling Mr Chumbly & little Henry at work Negro House

10th Nails gave out this evening I got back in Two days from Lynchg

1959 Decr 24th Jerry Came home last Sunday & Sally came to day – from Riceville Bro Thompson Brot her to his House Fannie Came down to day

25th I went to Strait Stone praying meeting this day Jerry & me windy & cool or cold

26 Kate Cam Mr Moses Came down to day Me & old Aunt Lucy this morning – clear & windy to day —

27 Mr Moses & Kate here, & fixed my clock Fannie went home last evening –

28. Raining & bad weather I am at home sick

29 Raining & freezing disagreeable day Kate & Mr Moses went home Wednesday evening Sent their cow by Jordan & Sandy

30. Cleared off last night Sallie & Jerry here bad freezing night given Kate Bed stead & furniture Tub axe Earthen ware etc etc etc gone

31st cloudy & like for snow this morning I am going to mount airy to hiring Began to Hall wood cut & mall yesterday & to day cutting malling & Piling wood. Began to Snow about 12 oclock great sleet I had 2 or 3 falls, Snowed about 1 Inch Deep on the Hail & sleet Bill Sick this evening - got well about night, very bad weather at this time,

Jany 1st1860 very cold & cloudy stayed at home

2nd I went to Mr Hunts place & Wyatts to day Cutting in new ground, chumny moved Thursday in Christmas —

3rd Sally left this morning for Danville Jerry Carried her to Doct Thompsons gave her $2½ in money halling wood here to day - & Cutting

4th Sent 5 Bushels wheat to Mill to day Cutting & halling wood this day — still cold weather

5 I started to Louisa to day Henry & Claborne sewed Hard grass seed this morning & then all went to cutting in next
