609 COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEATTLE Mar 21/85 Be it remembered that on this 20th day of March 1885 the Common Council of the City of Seattle meets in its Council Chamber pursuant to law. The following Officers are present, to wit: His Honor the Mayor John Leary and Councilmembers B.H. Northup, Alfred Snyder, H.L Yesler, W.G. Latimer and W.V Rinehart. Thereupon the following proceedings are had. Petitions Rec'd James St planking of sewer in 5th St. into James S Cherry Sts From John Collins et al for planking, James Street from Front to Second Street. Referred to Street Committee From Fridolin Wilhelm et al for a sewer in Fifth Street between Cherry and James Streets. Refered to Committee on Sewers. Lombard, Payne and Birch Sts Opening of Lombard, Payne & Birch Sts Opening of From Thos Mercer et al for opening Lombard, Payne and Birch Street in Collins addition. Referred To Street Committee [Hose Co #1] admitted to Fire Dept From The Board of the Delegates recommending the admission of "Hose Co No 1" to the Seattle Fire Department. Thereupon said recommendation is approved and said "Hose Co. No. 1" is hereby declared admitted into the Seattle Fire Department. Reports Rec'd Commercial Mill & Front St planking cost of From the Street Commissioner showing the cost of planking Commercial Mill and Front Streets. Report adopted. Cemetary to be fenced. Park approved. From the Cemetary Commission recommending the fencing of the City Cemetary and for certain improvements to the City Park. Ordered that the Clerk be & is hereby instructed to notify said Commission that a fence has heretofore been ordered by the Council for the Cemetary and further ordered that the Committee on Public Buildings, Property and Grounds in connection with said Cemetary Commission be and are instructed to repair the fence around the City Park and to make certain other repairs to said Park grounds. Rollin St Extension From Surveyor reporting progress on Rollin Street Extension ordered that the surveyor be & is hereby instructed to complete the plat of such extension. Moltke St From Street Committee reporting against granting the petition of A.E. Houser et al for opening Moltke Street. Report adopted. Blk 42 draining of From Committee reporting against granting the petition of D.C. Townsend et al for draining Block 42 Hen's S.A. Bell addition.

695 COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEATTLE Oct 2 1885 the appointment of special Policeman and defining their Powers and Duties and Fixing their Compensation which, after due consideration is adopted by the following vote: In favor of said Ordinance Calligan, Furth, Hall, Harrington Lake, McDonald, Keenen and Young. Against None. An Ordinance is submitted entitled "A special Ordinance appropirating money to pay audited bills" which, after dau consideration is adopted by the following vote:In favor of said Ordinance Calligan, Furth, Hall, Harrington, Keenen, Lake, McDonald and Young. Against None. Ordered that the council adjourns Attest W R Forrest clerk H L Yesler mayor Oct 16 1885 Be it remembered that on this 16th day of October A D 1885 the Common Council of the City of Seattle meets in its Council Chamber pursuant to law the following officers are present to wit: His Hon the Mayor Henry L Yesler and Councilmen , R H Calligan, J Furth, G W Hall, W A Harrington John Keenen, T W Lake, Chas McDonald, J J Post and G W Young. Whereupon the following proceedings were had to wit: Petitions and Communications Petition of J Bersch et al for opening Sixth Street between Mill and Terrace Streets. Referred to St Com. Petition of Powers and Meyers to dismiss suit of City against thereupon pament of all costs. Referred to Judiciary Comtee Petitionof C B Bagley for opening roadway in Mercers Second Eden Addition Referred to Street Committee. Petition of P Wickstrom et al for permission to establish a Steam Laundry under the Wisconsin House of Mill St, On motion the petition is granted

147 COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEATTLE Feb 4 1887 Be it remembered that on this 4th day of February A D 1887 the Common Council of the City of Seattle meets in its Council Chamber pursuant to law. The following officers are present to wit: his Honor the Mayor W H Shoudy and councilmen J Furth, J M Frink, Jos Green, J D Hinckley, R Russell & C F Reitze. The following proceedings are had towit: Petitions etc. Petition of W V Rinehart for permission to make certain repairs to wooden buildings corner Mill & South Third Streets. Granted Petition of D R Williamson et al to open Box Street from High Street (Mercer Plat) in front of "The House" and plank sixteen (16) feet wide so much of said Box Street through the so called "China Gardens" as may be necessary to make it passable for loaded teams and footmen. Granted and the Street Commissioner directed to openand improve said Box Street. Petition of W F Allen et al for a street light corner of 5th & Minor Streets and for a street crossing along the Northside of Marion Street across 5th Street. Granted. Communication from Chief of Police relating to obstructions in Seattle Harbor: Referred to to Committee on Harbor and Wharves. Official Reports Received From City Atty for month of January. Read and ordered filed. From Police Justice G A Hill for month of January. Referred to Finance committee From Police Justice Geo G Lyon for month of Dec & January. 207 COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEATTLE Jun 13 1887 Street is read & Referred to Street Committee. Petitionof Thomas Burke et al to grade Madison Street from the line between Section 28 & 33 to the line between Section 22 & 27 and build a sidewalk on the northerly side of said street, read & Referred to Street Com. Petition of Nicholas George for permission to erect a fish stand at the foot of Columbia Steet is read and referred to Street Committee. Remonstrance of Jame Morrison against opening alley in Block 12 Edes & Knight's Addition referred to Street Com. Petition of Robert Abrams for permission to build a carriage shed to connect his stable on Lot 6 Block 8 Maynard's Plat with South 3rd Street is read and on motion granted. A communication is received from the Mayor and Chamber of Commerce of Tacoma on behalf of the citizens of Tacoma inviting the Mayor & City Officials to unite with them in celebrating the completion of the Northern Pacific Railway and the Fourth of July at Tacoma is read and on motion of Councilman Furth the clerk is directed to acknowledge the receipt of the same with thanks and regrets that other engagements will prevent the Council from accepting the same. FromStreet Committee on petition of F W Wald and others to widen Second Street from Mill to Depot Street to a width of 90 feet and to extend Second Street to a union with Grant Street making Second Street 90 feet wide throughout. Recommending that the petition be granted. Report Adopted. The Street Committee returns without report or action the
