629 COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEATTLE.

Be it remembered that on this the 15th day of May 1885 the Common Council of the City of Seattle meets in its Council Chamber pursuant to law.

The following Officers are present, towit: His Honor the Mayor John Leary and Councilmen Geo. F. Frye, W. A. Harrington, B. L. Northup, Alfred Snyder, E. F. Sox, H. L. Yesler, W. G. Latimer & W. V. Rinehart.

Thereupon the following proceedings are had:

Petitions Rec'd

From Harris & Greenus for reconsidering the claim allowed of last meeting for an additional allowance.

From S. F. Hoskinson for closing temporarily an alley in Block 21 Pontius 2d addition. Referred to Street Com tee.

From Frahin & Simpson for the delivery of a certain Madison Street Grade Warrant for $200.00 upon the execution by them of a bond to remove said rock at their own expense within 20 days after the removal of a certain injunction against the same. Granted.

From City Assessor for an appropriation to apply towards paying for certain abstract work. Referred to Finance Com tee.

A plat of "W. C. Hills addition to the City of Seattle" is presented & referred to Street Com tee

Communications and Reports

From the Board of Fire Delegates, a notification that Gardner Kellogg had been elected Chief of the Fire Department of the City of Seattle by election held May 4, 1885; thereupon it is ordered that said Gardner Kellogg be & is hereby appointed to the office of Chief of the Fire Department for the term provided by law.

From A. B. Merrill asking for the appointment as Custodian of City Powder Magazines. Thereupon said A. B. Merrill is appointed as such Custodian.

From J. C. Lipsky Powder House Keeper on the matter of the claim of Ballard & Sox for powder stolen from Powder House. Ordered filed.

From J. C. Lipsky tendering his resignation as Keeper of the Powder House. Accepted.

From Clerk on D. Rohlfs assessment matter. Report adopted.

From Finance Com tee approving Treasurers report. Adopted.

Ordered that the application of W. F. Hall for a Retail Intoxicating Liquor license be & is hereby rejected. In favor of rejection Frye, Harrington, Northup, Rinehart, Snyder, Sox, Yesler & Latimer. Against the same none.

Claims Paid

The following claims having been duly audited by the Council are ordered paid by Warrants drawn on the funds & in the amounts following, towit:

Gas Fund

Seattle Gas Light Co, gas, No. 116, $338.80 J. F. McNaught, error in assessment, 117, $6.

Fire Fund

J. F. McNaught, error in assessment, No. 582, $9. D. Rohlfs, error in assessment, 583, $1.42 Chronicle Pub. Co, printing, 584, $1.50

Cemetery Fund

Ordinances

The attorney submits an Ordinance entitled "An Ordinance to vacate certain alleys in the City of Seattle"; after due consideration said Ordinance is adopted upon the following vote, towit: Frye, Harrington, Northup, Rinehart, Snyder, Sox, Yesler, Latimer. Against the same none.
