639 COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEATTLE Engine Co No 2 is broken recommending that a new bell be purchased. Ordered that the Clerk with the advise of His Honor the Mayor & the Chief of the fire department purchase a new bell. A petitionid rec'd from Geo K Beede for the transfer of his Retail liquor license for the saloon Corner Columbia & Front Streets to Geo McConnell & Co. Petition denied. A petition is rec'd from Adam Orth et al asking that Peter Bunn be appointed & a Special Police office. Referred to Police Comtee And now the Council proceeds with the examination and equalization of the assessmentt Rolls for the year 1885 Ordered that the following changes be made on said roll: James Dougan reduced on mortgage to $40. J S Maggs reduced on lands 2 acres taken off also amount of Iprovements $500. taken off O G Root to be assessed on mortgage to $40. E Still to be reduced on mortgage to $75. Geo Misener to be reduced in Improvements to $800. H A Bigelow to be raised on Improvements to $800. J W Edwards to be reduced on mortgage to $240. Ordered that the following named persons be notified to appear Tomorrow evening. P Wickestrom, W D Wood, Joseph F McNaught & James McNaught Ordered that the Council stand now adjourned until Tuesday May 26, 1885 at 8 o'clock pm AttestE S Osborne Approved John Leary mayor

269 COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEATTLE Aug 15 1887 reduced of personal property from $100,000 to $50,000 on account of a $50,000 trustee mortgage in which the bank has no interest. Ordered that Geo F Frye be reduced on personal property $500 account mortgage improperly assessed. Ordered that the Estate of Almira Kidd be reduced on personal property $80 acct mtge improperly assessed. Ordered that the personal property assessed against Pumphrey and Lowman $2400 be stricken from the roll. Ordered that the assessment of John Langston trustee $1632 be stricken from the roll (14 year old Logger's lien) Ordered that the assessment of the Pugert Sound Ice Company be reduced from $10,000 to 6000. Ordered that A S Hanford be reduced on personal property $1450. Ordered that the assessment of the Seattle Electric Light Co. be reduced from $10,650 to $6050 Ordered that Thomas W Prosch be reduced on personal property 850 and on Improvements from $1800 to $1000 Ordered that J W Edwards be reduced on personal property form $1300 to $200 acct mortgage partially paid. 287 COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEATTLE Sep 2 1887 Contractor to remove them. Communication from Justice H F Jones suggesting change of plan in keeping record of arrests and commitments; read and referred to Com on Health & Police. Communicaton from Justice H F Jones in regard to witness fees paid Police Officers, stating that he has paid such fees to the Police Officers as he considers the ordinance requiring them to be paid to the city instead. Communication from Mrs E S Ingraham asking for the return of certain moneys paid the City for tax cetificates, read and referred to City Attorney. Communication from the Street Commissioner calling the attention of the Council to sidewalks that should be condemned, read and referred to the Street Committee. Communication from W K Davis in behalf of owners of property condemned on Republican & Natches Streets (Ordinances 858 & 859) stating that they had appointed M R Galloway to act in their behalf as appraiser, read and ordered filed. Petitionof J W Edwards & others to open Filbert St read and granted. Resignation of Patrick Farraher from Police force read and on motion accepted. Communication from James McDonald complaining of treatment in City Jail, read and on motion referred to Committee on Health and Police.
