685 COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEATTLE Sep 4 1885 Bids for lighting and cleaning Gas LAmps referred to Committee on Gas Lights Custodian Powder House It appearing that a vacancy exists in the office of Custodian fo the Powder House by reason of Robert Russell failing to qualify as required by law; the Council now proceeds to file such vacancy by Electing Ed L Lindsley Custodian of the Powder house be unanimous vote, no other nominations being made. Ordered That the Finance committee be and it is hereby authorized and instructed to employ an assistant to aid the Clerk in examining and balancing the books and accounts of the Clerk and City Treasurer. Ordinance The City Attorney now submits an Ordinance entitled "An ordinance authorizing the mayor and Clerk of the City of Seattle to execute and deliver a certain deed" which after due consideration by the Council is adopted by the following vote; In favor of said ordinances J Furth R Calligan, Geo W Hall, John Keenen, T W Lake, Chas McDonald and G W Young, against none. An Ordinance is submitted entitled"A special ordinance appropriating money to pay Audited Bills" which after being duly considered is adopted by the following vote viz: in favor of said ordinance R Calligan, J Furth, Geo W Hall, John Keenen, T W Lake, Chas McDonald and G W Young, against none. 701 COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEATTLE Oct 16 1885 be continued until the next meeting And now the Council proceeds to open the bids for furnishing the City Thirty stone monuments for government Corners, when the following bids were received to wit: Evans & Co. $2.25 each. H M Wright 75 cents each. whereupon the Contract is awarded to H M Wright and the proper contract ordered drawn A plat is presented to the Council entitled " Supplemental Plat of Blocks 44 & 58 Burkes Second Addition to the City of Seattle" by Eshelman & Llewyllen and onmotionis approved. Ordered that the Councildonow adjourn. 321 COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEATTLE Nov 4 1887 Be it remembered that on this 4th day of November 1887 the Common Council of the City of Seattle meets in its Council Chamber pursuant to law. The Following officers are present, viz: Mayor T T Minor and Councilman J Furth, J M Frink, Joseph Green, T W Lake R Moran, U R Neisz, R Russell & C F Reitze and W A Forrest Clerk. Whereupon the following proceedings are had. Petitions and Communications Petition of L Otto & others for street lights inPine St from Fourth Street to Seventh Street, read and referred to Committee on Street Lights. Petition of Geo E Clancy and others for a Fire Plug corner of Fourth and Washington Streets, read and referred to Committee on Fire & Water. Communication from John Leary President of the Seattle Construction Company accepting the franchise granted said company by said Ordinance No 878 read and ordered filed. Communication from Francis W James asking the Council to take action on plat of James Addition to the City of Seattle submitted for approval, read & on motion tabled for the present. Communication from J M Bennett in regard to nuisance on Commercial Street opposite Arlington Hotel, next to the place of business of the said Bennett, read and on motion the Chief of Police is ordered to abate the nuisance immediately,
